Chapter 147 Way Too Clingy!
Chapter 147 Way Too Clingy!
‘You want to fight Prince Atlas?’ Layla thought, still stunned.
She knew Bruce was strong, with a high shift tier and crazy talent, but come on, his opponent was Atlas himself.
‘Bruce definitely can’t beat November!’ Layla thought, feeling hopeless.
She tried to be tactful. “Bruce, not a good idea to start a fight here in Shadow Alley.”
Bruce nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. I’ll wait till we’re back at school and then challenge him in the Mech Combat Arena.”
Layla was feeling a bit helpless, but Jayvon didn’t hold back. “Bruce, November’s crazy strong. He’s the top dog in our grade.”
Bruce’s eyes lit up with excitement. “That just makes me want to challenge him even more!”
Layla shot Jayvon a death glare.
Jayvon rubbed his nose awkwardly. He really hadn’t meant to hype things up.
The three of them headed into Shadow Alley, Bruce leading the way. After just a few steps, Layla found herself outside a shop she instantly recognized.
Dizzy was slouched behind the counter, looking all laid-back with a cigarette hanging from his lips. But when his eyes landed on Layla, he froze and nearly dropped his smoke.
His eyes went wide. “Wait, you’re my niece, Layla?”
Layla nodded. “Small galaxy, huh? Hey, Uncle Dizzy.”
“Damn, if I’d known it was you, I wouldn’t have charged you last time! Come on, send me your optical computer code, and I’ Il send the starcoins right back!” Dizzy stammered, looking flustered.
Layla waved it off. “No, it’s fine.”
Bruce blinked. “So you two know each other?”
Dizzy started explaining how Layla had dropped by his shop before to buy something.
He looked at Layla with a sigh. “I’ve been to Alpha Prime so many times. How did I not know you were here all along?” Layla smiled. “Hey, at least you know now. Besides, I’ve always been doing great.”
“Oh, right. That orphanage you used to live in-what happened to everyone?” Dizzy asked. “We found the place, but you weren’t there.
“We wanted to talk to the director and learn more about you, but after a year, the director and all the kids had left. The locals said a kid who grew up there came back and took everyone with them.”
Dizzy paused, staring at Layla. “Wait, was that you?”
Layla nodded.
Dizzy’s face lit up with understanding. “That explains it.”
Layla suddenly recalled how Celia once mentioned someone snooping around Wastelands-9 Orphan Core. ‘Wait, could that have been Uncle Dizzy and his people?’ she thought.
But the important thing was, they’d finally reunited.
Even after Layla explained that the mech suit parts she bought were just for someone else’s build, and that person had covered the cost, Dizzy wouldn’t let it go and insisted on sending all the starcoins back to her.
“Oh, by the way, did you ever use those Hellwing Starbeast bones?” Dizzy asked.
“Not yet,” Layla replied.
“Oh,” Dizzy said.
Layla sensed Dizzy was hinting at something. “Uncle Dizzy, if there’s something on your mind, just say it. You don’t have to hold back with me. We’re not strangers.”
“Of course we’re not strangers. So, here’s the deal… I got my hands on those Hellwing Starbeast bones through some backdoor deals, but now a colonel from the military is trying to reclaim them,” Dizzy explained.
Dizzy was in a real bind.
He’d already told the messenger the bones we Successfully unlocked! military, and that was a whole different ball
game.
He absolutely couldn’t afford to piss off the Alpha Prime military.

Otherwise, he might end up screwing up Daniel’s big plans.
Layla could see Dizzy was in a tough spot, but she was still dying to use those Hellwing Starbeast bones to make Ares even stronger.
She thought for a moment and asked, “Do you know the colonel’s name?”
‘Maybe November could help out, or I could just hit up Colonel Lewis for help, Layla thought.
“It’s Colonel Lewis,” Dizzy replied.
Layla couldn’t help but make a weird face.
Just then, her optical computer pinged.
November: [Layla, I’m at the entrance to Shadow Alley. Where are you?]
Layla shot him her location.
Bruce cracked his knuckles, grinning. “Well, well, look who finally showed up. Time to see what my ‘cousin-in-law’ is made of!”
Dizzy perked up instantly. “Cousin-in-law? Wait, what?”
Bruce smirked. “Yeah, he’s Layla’s husband.”
Dizzy’s eyes went wide as saucers, and his pipe dropped right out of his hand again.
“Wait, Layla, you’re actually married? Does Daniel even know about this?” Dizzy blurted out, totally floored.
Layla bit her lip. “Dad doesn’t know yet.”
They’d only video chatted once.
He said the signal was always crap, so if she needed anything, just drop him a message.
To be honest, Layla still felt kind of distant from her dad, so she never really talked about much.
It seemed like he was the same way.
That meant they hadn’t really kept in touch lately.
November showed up at the entrance of the familiar mech shop. Jayvon was about to say hi, but before he could even open his mouth, November made a beeline straight for Layla.
Jayvon just stood there, speechless.
‘Damn, Layla’s husband is seriously clingy!’ Jayvon thought.
“Layla, back again? Shopping for more mech parts?” November called out as he walked in, but instantly felt two pairs of hostile eyes locked onto him.
One glare came from Bruce, Layla’s younger cousin, whom they’d just reconnected with.
The other was from Dizzy, the shop owner, who’d only met November once before.
November instinctively stepped in front of Layla, protective. “What’s up with you guys?”
November’s instinct to shield Layla actually made Dizzy warm up to him a bit. Sure, he still thought this masked kid was a pain for snatching Layla up so early, but at least he had the right attitude.
His psychic force seemed pretty strong, and he clearly knew when to protect Layla,
That was definitely a good thing.
All in all, after sizing November up, Dizzy was both relieved and annoyed.
Bruce challenged him directly, eyes blazing. “Let’s duke it out at school! If you can’t take me down, forget about being my cousin-in-law. Only a real powerhouse deserves my cousin!”
‘So that’s what this is about; November thought, his dangerous vibe easing up a bit.
November just smirked, totally unfazed. “A fight? Sure, I’m game. What about you, Dizzy? You want to throw down, too? Or are you another one of Layla’s cousins?”
Layla coughed awkwardly. “Nope, he’s not my cousin. He’s my uncle. Uncle Dizzy.”
“Oh, got it. Your uncle,” November replied.
Dizzy sized November up one last time and then turned to Layla with a warm smile. “Come on, let’s eat together before you head out.”
Even if Dizzy was just an honorary uncle, Layla was eager to learn more about the father she’d never met in person.

Sharing a meal and some conversation was the best way to get to know him.
Layla nodded, and of course, November stuck around.
Jayvon looked like he’d come specifically to see Dizzy. According to Bruce, Jayvon was looking for a job, so Bruce brought him over to Dizzy’s shop in Shadow Alley.
Layla sensed they might be hiding something, but since they didn’t bring it up, she wasn’t going to ask. Everyone was entitled to their secret. She had her own, after all.
Dizzy locked up the shop and led them down a hidden underground passage. Before long, they were out of Shadow Alley and standing in front of an ordinary-looking apartment building.
Dizzy waved at a few people as they passed by.
Once they got to the apartment, Dizzy realized he was running low on groceries. He told Layla to make herself at home and dashed out to pick up some food. Then he came back to cook.
Layla offered to help out, saying she could whip up a few dishes, but Dizzy shut her down immediately.
“No way am I letting you set foot in the kitchen! Girls should be spoiled, not put to work!” Dizzy said with a playful grin.
