Chapter 148 Hiding Your Ugly Face?
Chapter 148 Hiding Your Ugly Face?
“Bruce, and you, Jayvon, come help in the kitchen,” Dizzy said, his gaze landing on November, who was sitting right next to Layla, looking like he couldn’t bear to be apart from her for even a second.
Dizzy’s mouth twitched, but he held back from asking November to help.
Honestly, Layla was relieved, too.
She knew November couldn’t cook at all. Last time she asked him to prep some veggies, he picked off every single leaf and just left the stems behind.
Now that they finally had a moment alone, Layla leaned in and whispered to November, “Remember that Hellwing Starbeast skeleton we bought together in Shadow Alley?
“Uncle Dizzy said Colonel Lewis tracked it down through a bunch of people and finally found it with him. Now he wants Uncle Dizzy to return it.”
November said, “Yeah, I remember.”
Layla continued, “That skeleton is perfect for upgrading Ares, so could you ask Colonel Lewis to drop the whole Hellwing Starbeast skeleton thing?”
November realized he’d reprimanded Roger before, which probably led Roger to trace the skeleton all the way to Dizzy. He said, “No problem. I’ll just give him the order.”
A few minutes later, Roger got a message from Atlas. It was blunt and straight to the point: [Stop chasing the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton.]
Roger was speechless.
He thought, ‘Seriously? First, he tells me to hunt it down, and now he wants me to drop it? Being a subordinate is pure suffering!
‘And he still hasn’t paid me back, either!’
Roger turned to his girlfriend, Reyna, and moaned, “Reyna, life is just way too tough for me!”
Reyna patted his shoulder and said, “Hey, getting knocked down just makes you stronger. I like you better when you’re a little more grown up.”
“Really? Well, guess I’ll just brace myself for even more drama!” Roger said.

For some reason, Dizzy’s cooking was just amazing, and Layla was loving it. She polished off two whole plates of food. Shifters always had big appetites, especially those with higher shift tiers.
Dizzy watched Layla with a fond smile. He was about to refill her plate, but then he realized that November had already done it.
‘Well, okay then, Dizzy thought.
He mentally gave November some extra credit. ‘At least the kid knows how to take care of Layla, he thought.
Bruce wolfed down his food and shot November a competitive grin, cracking his knuckles, clearly raring to go. “After dinner, let’s settle this at the Mech Combat Arena back at school.”
On Alpha Prime, it was strictly forbidden to pilot their mech suits for fights outside the official arenas. If someone broke the rules, the Security Bureau would come down on them hard.
Military folks had their own exclusive training grounds for sparring/
Imperial Academy students always headed to the College of Military’s dedicated Mech Combat Arena for their matches.
Layla watched Bruce, who was clearly itching for a fight, and didn’t stop him. After all, for shifters, the best way to bond was to throw down and duke it out.
She just leaned in close to November’s ear and whispered, “Don’t go too hard on him.”
The warmth of her breath hit his ear, and his ear turned visibly pink.
He turned to look at Layla and nodded.
Bruce was Layla’s real cousin. Now that she’d f

rounds with November, the kid in the mask.
He said, “If you guys want to spar, no need to head back to the academy. I can hook you up with a spot and some mech suits. You guys need B Tier training mech suits, right?”
Bruce cracked his knuckles, giving November a challenging look. “I can pilot A Tier mech suit and above. Can you?
November thought for a moment and said, “Let’s go with S Tier.”
Jayvon, who was usually the quiet type, was totally stunned. He leaned over and whispered to Layla, “Is it really okay for those two to fight like this?”
“It should be fine,” Layla replied.
Jayvon’s mouth twitched. ‘It should be fine? Seriously, how can they all be so unconcerned about this?
After dinner, Dizzy took the four kids to an underground fighting arena. He knew the owner, so getting a Mech Combat Arena and two S Tier mech suits was no big deal.
Since Layla and the others were still students, Dizzy made sure they all wore masks to keep their identities hidden.
As for November, it was even easier. He was already wearing a mask.
Bruce leaned in and whispered, “Hey, why do you always wear that mask? What, are you hiding your ugly mug or something?”
November turned to Layla and asked, “Can I smack him around a little extra later?”
Layla was speechless.
Meanwhile, Dizzy had already made arrangements with the owner of the fighting arena, Oren Collins, who was eyeing Bruce and November with obvious fascination.
He said, “An S Tier mech showdown? That’s a real treat! Mind if I sell tickets and let the crowd watch?”
Dizzy shut him down immediately. “Don’t do that. They’re just kids. They’re just borrowing your place for a quick match, so keep it low-key.”
Oren, ever the shrewd businessman, grinned. “Man, I’d be losing out here. If those S Tier mechs get trashed, repairs are gonna cost a fortune.”
Layla spoke up, “I can fix them for you.”
Not only was Oren stunned, but even Dizzy was floored.
Dizzy’s eyes widened in surprise. “Kiddo, you can actually fix S Tier mech suits?”
Layla shrugged. “Yeah, I learned a bit from my mentor. Should be no big deal.”
Honestly, Oren was just joking around. He’d known Dizzy for years. As the kids made their way to the Mech Combat Arena, Oren leaned over and whispered, “So, are these your new rookies?”
Dizzy shot him a sideways glance. “Mind your own business.”
“Tsk, you’ve got no conscience at all,” Oren snorted.
Meanwhile, Bruce and November had already picked out their mech suits and headed up to the Mech Combat Arena.
Jayvon walked over to Layla and said, “Layla, I feel like you’ve always had the wrong idea about me.
“Back in basic training, when I pretended to be hurt, and later when I held back on purpose, it wasn’t like I wanted to. I just didn’t have a choice.”
“Yeah, I know,” Layla replied.
Jayvon blinked, a little thrown. “If you know, then why do you still act like you’re mad at me?”
Layla said, “That’s just how I am. Growing up in the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, I learned to keep my guard up. Then I got adopted by a noble family… It just takes me a while to trust anyone.”
Jayvon nodded. “I get it.”
He couldn’t force someone to trust him or see him as a true friend.
He had to prove it over time, with his actions.
Jayvon felt a bit frustrated. If he’d known, he would’ve tried to build a better relationship with Layla right from the start of basic training.
Guess he’d just have to look for chances to make it up to her later.
Up on the Mech Combat Arena, Bruce and November were both suited up and ready to go. Bruce had all the expectations of his dad, his uncles, and the whole family weighing on him.

He glared at November and called out, “Don’t you dare hold back! I want to see your full power. Prove you’re actually good enough to be with Layla!”
