Chapter 150 Let’s Go Home

Chapter 150 Let’s Go Home

“Of course,” November replied without a second thought. “Layla, even if you’re just a second-year in the Mech Engineering Division, you’re Weston’s apprentice.

“That already sets you apart. You’re really gifted, and I know you’ll be a top mech engineer one day.”

Layla froze for a moment, studying November’s face. “You’re really talkative today.”

November said, “I just don’t want to see you sell yourself short. You’re way better than you think. They have no clue how awesome you really are.”

After saying that, November just looked at Layla, his eyes glistened, as if holding back tears.

Layla knew that when Atlas was November, he relied on her a lot. Getting that kind of praise from him was no surprise at all. She finally nodded and said, “Alright, let’s go home. I’ll see if I can work out a way to use the Hellwing Starbeast’s bones for Ares.”

“Okay.” November’s eyes sparkled. Just hearing “let’s go home” made his heart skip a beat.

What really mattered was that he hadn’t blown his cover. That was close.

The two of them returned to Imperial Academy first, switched to another aero-vehicle, and then took Atlas’s exclusive passage straight back to his residence.

Lately, Leilani hadn’t been coming here to tend to her flowers. She preferred to disguise herself and visit the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, helping Celia look after the kids.

Leilani never showed up empty-handed. She was generous and gentle, and the kids at the orphanage absolutely adored her.

Layla said, “That’s really nice, but I just hope it doesn’t cause any trouble for Her Majesty.”

November shook his head. “No way. Don’t worry, Mom always keeps a low profile when she goes to the orphanage. She never causes any trouble for anyone there.”

“That’s not what I meant. I just…” Layla hesitated, picking her words. “It feels like Her Majesty is so restricted. I’m just worried that if she keeps sneaking out like this, His Majesty might not like it, and that could spell trouble for her.”

November’s mood dropped when he mentioned his mom. “She’s always been so vibrant and bold, but for Meridia’s sake, she’s stuck living behind palace walls. She’s really had it tough.”

Layla couldn’t help but feel sorry. Someone as stunning and wild as Leilani didn’t deserve this kind of fate.

But she knew this was a topic she shouldn’t push any further. If she kept going, she’d be crossing a line.

Layla always kept her guard up and stayed rational. Sure, she and November were getting closer, but she knew deep down. their marriage was fragile. It could fall apart at any moment.

There were plenty of reasons it could end, but honestly, the biggest one was how unstable November was.

To be real, if November ever vanished and it was just Atlas left, Layla couldn’t stand even a day with him.

If November ever found out what Layla was really thinking, it’d probably break his heart a little. After all, he was just pretending to be in a rut right at that moment.

Once they got back to the residence and made sure Roger wasn’t going to dig any deeper into the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton, Layla headed straight for the mech suit control station in the basement to start her research.

November had a military meeting to attend, so he handed Layla the remote for Ares and then headed off to his study.

Once she got to the basement, Layla brought Ares online and said, “Ares, I’ve tracked down my real father. He’s living on some far-off planet, so I’ll go find him when I’m on break.”

Ares’s electronic eyes flashed with excitement. “Really? What kind of person is he? Is he my father’s descendant?”

“I don’t know yet. He’s way out there, and the connection’s pretty unstable, so I’ll only know for sure once I get there,” Layla replied.

“Oh, I see,” Ares said, his voice tinged with disappointment. “Layla, can you really trust them? Are they actually related to you?”

Layla nodded. “Yeah, I already ran a DNA test with my cousin. Everything matches up.”

“That’s awesome. I just wish I could go with yo Successfully unlocked! father’s descendants, I’d be able to sense it

through their psychic force,” Ares added.

Layla couldn’t promise Ares anything. She wasn’t even sure if she could take November with her. And even if she did, there

was no way she could deploy Ares with others around.

Ares was quick on the uptake. He didn’t push the subject and just asked, “So, how can I help?”

Layla decided not to dwell on it anymore and brought out the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton.

She said, “This skeleton isn’t just insanely tough. It’s got crazy strength, too. Honestly, your whole build is already top- notch. Now, let’s see if we can take things up a notch.”

The massive black mech suit hunkered down, totally docile, and said, “I’m all yours.”

Layla nodded, determined to give Ares the upgrade he deserved and make sure not a scrap of the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton went to waste.

Just then, her optical computer flashed. A new message popped up. It was from Weston.

Weston: [Layla, where are you? I’m coming over.]

Weston: [You didn’t start working on the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton without me, did you?] Weston: [Don’t tell me you already got started and left me out. I’m heartbroken.]

Layla’s face went blank for a few seconds. ‘Shoot, I almost forgot about Weston, she thought.

It had just been one thing after another these past few days. But she wasn’t sure if November was cool with Weston dropping by.

After thinking it over, Layla decided not to reply to Weston right away. Instead, she had Zaa message Zee, telling him to notify her as soon as November’s meeting was over.

Zee knew Layla’s status in November’s eyes was sky-high. She was absolutely number one.

Zee didn’t bother waiting for November to wrap up his meeting. He just interrupted right away through November’s earpiece: “Boss, Lady Layla’s got something for you. She said to ping her when you’re done, she’ll come over.”

Atlas addressed his team in the holographic meeting, “Keep tabs on those void raiders out in the fringe systems, and stay on top of those vicious rebels. Anything else?”

Everyone could tell Atlas had something on his mind, so they all suddenly had nothing to report.

Only Roger spoke up, “Your Highness, lately, some folks from the military have been heading over to Prince Krish’s residence after hours. Are you aware of this?”

As soon as he said that, the atmosphere got awkward real quick. Some people looked visibly uncomfortable.

Atlas half-lowered his eyes and replied quietly, “I’m aware. Anything else?”

“Nothing else,” everyone replied.

“Alright, that’s it. Meeting’s over,” Atlas said.

Atlas shut down the hologram, rubbed his temples, and his whole vibe shifted, from icy commander to November’s usual chill, almost careless look. He got up and headed for the basement.
