Chapter 151 Master, Are You Jealous?

Chapter 151 Master, Are You Jealous?

When Atlas arrived in the basement, he found Layla talking to Ares.

Ares rarely spoke to Atlas. They were the best partners in battle, but in private, each was colder than the other.

Then, Atlas saw his advanced mech suit speaking to Layla in a surprisingly gentle tone. “Layla, you can design the weapons however you like.”

Even though it was just a cold, electronic voice, Atlas thought he caught a trace of affection in Ares’s words.

Layla quickly replied, “No, I won’t change your weapons. Your design is already perfect. The Hellwing Starbeast skeleton just makes it even cooler. Besides, I won’t touch it for now. I’ll wait until Weston gets here.”

She noticed Atlas. Back at home, Atlas had already taken off his mask. He hurried over in a few quick strides, his usual calm demeanor gone. His eyes were filled with warmth and reliance when he looked at Layla.

“Layla, Zee said you were looking for me?” Atlas asked.

Layla set aside the design plans. “Yeah, Weston found out about the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton, and now he really wants to help me work on Ares. Honestly, I was worried I’d mess things up and hurt Ares’s performance, so I asked Weston for help.”

Atlas wasn’t thrilled about having a third wheel. He barely got any alone time with Layla as it was.

But then he remembered how Ares had just spoken to Layla, with that weirdly affectionate tone. Atlas nodded. “He can come, but you’ll have to go get him yourself. I’m not lifting the house’s security for him.”

“Is that too much hassle? If it’s really a pain, we could just use my dorm,” Layla suggested.

“No way. Plus, your dorm’s way too cramped for Ares. He’d never fit,” Atlas replied.

Ares glanced at Atlas, puzzled. ‘Wait, is my master actually kind of fed up with me?’ he wondered.

When Layla heard from Atlas that Weston had visited before, she felt relieved. She sent Weston the coordinates and planned to pick him up with the aero-vehicle once he arrived at the port.

Weston was already at the port and immediately replied to Layla’s message.

Layla told Atlas she was heading out and left the basement to pick up Weston at the port. Atlas narrowed his eyes at Ares. Ares, did you know Layla before?”

“No, I only met her when she came here last time,” Ares answered, his voice as flat and mechanical as ever.

Ares’s emotionless reply didn’t faze Atlas. He narrowed his eyes, shot Ares a look, and strode out of the room.

Zee muttered in his earpiece, “Master, aren’t you overthinking this? I don’t see anything weird. Ares is just being nice to Layla because she matters to you. Wait, are you actually jealous?”

“Shut up!” Atlas snapped.

Alpha Prime Spaceport was as bustling as ever. Besides the locals, there were plenty of visitors from other planets, here to visit family, catch up with friends, or do some business.

As the busiest port in the universe, it was always packed with people coming and going.

When Layla arrived to pick up Weston, she spotted a woman by his side. The woman looked to be in her thirties, and Layla thought, ‘She looks really familiar.’

Suddenly, she remembered this was the same woman who’d chased Weston through Shadow Alley before.

Layla glanced at Weston. “Who’s she?”

Weston looked a bit conflicted, but before he could say anything, Melanie suddenly reached out and hugged Layla. “You must be Layla. You can call me Melanie. I’m Bruce’s aunt.”

Melanie had golden hair and was all sunshine and energy. Layla didn’t mind her at all. If she really was Bruce’s aunt, Layla thought she should respect her.

“Hello, Melanie,” Layla greeted her politely.

Melanie winked at her. “Nice to meet you. I’m also Weston’s wife now.”

Layla glanced at Weston, who was staring up at the sky, totally speechless but not denying it. She tried not to laugh and said, “Nice to meet you, too.”

“Oh, Layla, you’re such a sweetheart. Anyway, you and your master probably have things to do, right? Go on, I’ll catch up

with you later when I’m done, and we can have a real chat,” Melanie said.

Layla nodded, pulled out her optical computer, and added Melanie as a friend. Right then and there, Melanie planted a big. noisy kiss on Weston’s cheek, leaving a bright red lipstick mark.

Layla had to bite her lip to keep from laughing out loud.

Once Melanie was gone, Weston let out a huff. “Hey, you little brat. Hold it in.”

“Hey, Weston, did you really go and get married to Melanie for real?” Layla teased.

“It’s a long story,” Weston sighed.

“Okay, then, you don’t have to tell me,” Layla grinned, letting it slide.

Weston’s mouth twitched. “You little brat, won’t you even let me tell my love story? Woe is me. My life is so tragic. I only have one disciple, and she doesn’t even care about me.”

They were already in the aero-vehicle, and after Layla set the destination, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Honestly, it’s just the usual, one chasing, one playing hard to get. Nothing special. If anything, you probably just fooled Melanie.”

Weston shot her a look. “Tricked her? What are you talking about?”

Layla shot Weston a teasing look. “When you first took me in, you said you were three hundred years old. Then you changed it to a hundred and twenty-eight. And now you’re telling me you’re only fifty?”

Melanie looked, at most, thirty-seven or thirty-eight. For a shifter who could live to two hundred, that was practically a baby.

Layla deadpanned, “So your epic romance is just an old fossil robbing the cradle? No, wait, this isn’t just robbing the cradle, it’s an ancient relic snatching the cradle.”

Weston gave up. There was no point trying to tell his love story now.

He shifted gears. “Layla, let’s get serious. I didn’t just come here about the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton. The main thing is, did you really reconnect with your father, Daniel?”

Layla’s hand paused mid-motion. She looked up, her dark eyes fixed on Weston.

“Weston, I only told you I found my real father. I never mentioned his name. How did you know he’s called Daniel?” she asked.

Weston didn’t know what to say. The aero-vehicle was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Neither Layla nor Weston said a word. Just three more minutes and they’d be pulling up to Atlas’s place.

Weston met Layla’s gaze, his mouth twitching as he gave a nervous chuckle. “Melanie told me, obviously. She’s Bruce’s aunt. She heard it from him and passed it on to me. Oh, and she knows you’re my disciple.”

That explanation actually made sense, but…

Layla gave him a sly look. “Weston, every time you try to lie, you purse your lips and do that awkward little laugh, just like you did right now. So, tell me, what was real and what was just you making stuff up?”

Weston didn’t know what to say again.
