Chapter 152 That Fox Is Definitely Fooling You

Chapter 152 That Fox Is Definitely Fooling You

At that moment, Weston had only one thought in his mind. ‘I messed up, he thought. ‘It’s a mistake to take on a disciple who’s too clever. It makes it way too hard to fool her.’

Weston subconsciously pressed his lips together, but when he caught himself, his mouth twitched awkwardly.

At that moment, the aero-vehicle had landed on the helipad of Atlas’s Manor, and Zee, controlling the butler robot, was already there to greet them warmly.

Weston quickly said, “Layla, there’s more to this than meets the eye, but it’s not really something we should talk about in front of Atlas. I’ll explain everything to you later, okay?”

“Does it have something to do with me?” Layla asked.

“Yeah, it does,” Weston replied.

‘Just as I thought, Layla thought to herself.

Layla finally agreed with Weston. After all, they were at Atlas’s place. As they were getting off the aero-vehicle, she leaned in and whispered to Weston, “Prince Atlas is in his November state right now.”

Weston looked a bit awkward.

Layla raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong, Weston? Prince Atlas is actually pretty easy to get along with when he’s in his November state. You don’t have to be so nervous. Besides, you’ve dealt with him when he’s his usual self, so you get it.”

Seeing how serious Layla looked, Weston sighed. “Yeah, I know.”

‘That sly fox is definitely pulling one over on you again,’ Weston grumbled inwardly. But for some reason, Weston decided not to say anything.

As Weston and Layla walked into Atlas’s Manor, November was already there to greet them with a friendly smile. “Weston, you’re here? Perfect.

“Since you helped with Ares’s upgrades before, you and Layla can check out how we might use the Hellwing Starbeast’s bones to make Ares even stronger.”

“Sure thing, I can get started right away,” Weston replied.

November looked at Layla, saw her nod, and said, “Alright, let’s head to the basement.”

But they had barely taken a few steps when Layla’s optical computer rang. It was Bruce calling.

“I’ll take this call. You guys go ahead, I’ll catch up with you in a bit,” Layla said.

Layla had access to the basement, but calling from down there might mess with the signal.

November nodded, then he and Weston stepped into the elevator, and the doors slid shut behind them.

As soon as the elevator doors closed, the atmosphere inside shifted dramatically.

Weston let out a cold snort. “Prince Atlas, are you trying to fool my Layla again?”

November’s laid-back look faded, replaced by a chill in his eyes. “Layla is mine now.”

Weston snorted, “Ha, and you’re still lying to her?”

November’s gaze sharpened dangerously. “Layla only really relaxes when she’s with November. I’m doing everything I can to make this work with her. If you spill the truth now, the only thing waiting for us is a divorce.”

Weston didn’t flinch at November’s threat. With a complicated look, he said, “You want things to go smoothly with Layla, so

I won’t blow your cover. But are you aware she’s found her real family?”

“Yeah, I know. They’re out on some remote planet. Layla said she wants to visit them when she’s got time off, and I’ll be going with her,” November replied.

Weston’s eyes went wide. “You’re going with Layla?”

November caught the look on Weston’s face right away. “Is there something up with Layla’s dad?”

Weston felt like he was carrying a massive secret. But he couldn’t just blurt it out.

Seeing November’s curious stare, Weston acted like nothing was wrong and said, “Just think about it. Her dad lost his kid for years, and finally found her.

“And before he even gets to spend time with h Successfully unlocked ched his precious daughter away. If you go with her, I’m pretty sure Layla’s old man will want

“I’m up for any challenge. Besides, I just met Layla’s cousin and uncle not long ago,” November replied.

Weston’s eyes narrowed sharply. “You’ve met Layla’s uncle?”

“You know him, too?” November asked.

November thought Weston was acting way too weird, almost overreacting. He couldn’t help but feel a wave of suspicion. Realizing he might have given too much away, Weston cleared his throat and said, “I’m just surprised. Her uncle didn’t freak out or anything when he found out you were Prince Atlas?”

“No, I went as November, and I was wearing a mask. They had no clue who I really was,” November replied.

“That’s a relief, really,” Weston let out a breath, clearly feeling better.

‘Man, this old guy is acting even stranger than usual,’ November thought, but he knew grilling Weston would get him nowhere. The geezer wasn’t about to let anything slip.

Layla walked over to the entrance hall and looked up at the vast night sky outside.

She held her optical computer and said, “Yeah, I just ran into Melanie at the port. Right now? I’m with Weston, helping November repair his mech suit.

“Oh, and Melanie said she’ll come find me once she’s done with her stuff, and we can all hang out then.”

Bruce replied, “Yeah, Melanie showed up kind of out of the blue, and she won’t be here for long. Alright, once she’s free, we’ Il all get together. Jayvon and I are heading back to school now.”

“Alright,” Layla said.

After hanging up, Layla couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder. She’d spent so much of her life alone, with only the crew at Wastelands-9 Orphan Core and Weston as the people she truly trusted.

But at that moment, her circle of family was growing bigger by the day. Most of all…

She glanced back at the stunning, lavish manor. Her partner was here, waiting for her. At that moment, this place really felt like home.

“Mrs. Zimmer, I just whipped up some juice. Would you like a cup?” Zee rolled over, piloting the butler bot.

Layla wasn’t really hungry, but suddenly she found herself craving some juice. She nodded. “Yeah, I’d love some.”

Zee was so pleased that its digital eyes on the screen turned into happy little crescents.

It served Layla a bowl with extra care, then asked curiously, “Mrs. Zimmer, how come Zaa never wants to come out and play?”

Layla let out a soft laugh. “So, you made me juice just to bribe me into letting Zaa out, huh?”

“No way, Mrs. Zimmer. I just noticed you’ve been super busy lately, so I made this especially for you,” Zee said, eager to please.

“Alright, Zaa does its own thing. Now that I’m back home and free, if you think you can coax it out, be my guest and try talking to it yourself,” Layla teased.

Zaa and Zee were both top-tier Als. Layla honestly had no clue what kind of magic Weston had worked into their code, but sometimes, the way those two acted and thought, you’d swear they were practically human.

After finishing her juice, Layla thought for a second, then had the housekeeping bot pack up two servings. She grabbed the soup and headed down to the basement.

Just a moment ago, November and Weston had both been frowning, deep in some serious conversation, looking pretty grim.

But the moment they saw Layla step out of the elevator, Weston’s frown instantly melted away.

November practically jogged over, slinging an arm around her shoulders with a bright grin. “Layla, did you bring me some juice just for me?”
