Chapter 161

Chapter 161

November nodded and gave some instructions to Ms. Lowe.

He said, “If anyone shows up, just stay inside the estate and don’t go out.”

The automatic defense system would actively attack anyone who tried to break in.

He said, “Oh, and if anyone asks, don’t say I’m back. Just tell them my adjutant is here on official business on Meridia. If they’ve got a problem, they can take it up with me.”

Rosa finally felt at ease and replied, “Okay.”

After all, no matter how bold the Logan family acted, even they wouldn’t dare mess with Atlas.

Layla and November left the estate.

They were dressed in casual clothes, holding hands as they walked down the bustling streets of Meridia.

Suddenly, everything felt calm and perfect, as if the world had paused just for them.

For a moment, they could forget their true identities and just be a regular couple, strolling hand in hand, out on a date together.

For Layla, this was a fresh experience. But for November, it felt even more rare and special.

The streets of Meridia were gorgeous, decked out with emerald and pearl decorations, glittering in every shade imaginable.

Layla loved it. She glanced at November and realized he was enjoying himself, too.

“This is Meridia, your hometown. Wait, is this really your first time just hanging out here?” she asked.

“Pretty much,” November replied. “I’ve come back plenty of times, but never actually got to walk around.” He saw the sympathy in Layla’s eyes and lowered his gaze, looking a little lost and vulnerable.

He said, “Not just Meridia, even on Alpha Prime, I never really got to explore the city.”

When Atlas was little, Leilani once snuck out of the palace with him for a rare stroll through the city. But they hadn’t gone far before they bumped right into Dakota and Krish.

And of course, their long line of attendants was trailing behind them the whole way.

Dakota asked Leilani if she wanted to keep shopping, but she shook her head, gripping Atlas’s hand. Leilani said, “We’re tired. We’re heading back to the palace.”

Then she took little Atlas back to the palace. On the aero-vehicle, just the two of them, they were just talking about everything and nothing.

Back then, Atlas hadn’t yet grown into that cold, stoic face everyone knew.

He asked curiously, “Mom, don’t you love shopping? Didn’t you say we’d keep going until sunset?”

Leilani smiled softly at him and replied, “When you’re with someone you care about, shopping is pure joy. Shopping with people you don’t like? That’s just misery.”

Atlas caught on right away. He said, “Oh, so you don’t like shopping with Dad and Krish, huh? Honestly, it’s no fun at all with

them.”

Chapter 161

Leilani smiled warmly. She said. “You’re so smart, Atlas.”

November pulled himself back to the present, glanced at Layla by his side, and reached for her hand.

He couldn’t help but think, ‘Mom was absolutely right about that. Being with someone you love makes everything better, not just shopping, but anything at all.

Layla’s heart just broke for him seeing November like that.

Even though they were out in public, she reached out and laced her fingers tightly with his, not letting go for a second.

She said softly, “Whenever there’s a lively street, I’ll always be there to walk it with you.”

November’s blue eyes sparkled. He replied, “Yeah.”

While the couple was out on their date, Kane, the guy November had just roughed up, rushed home to tattle.

He looked like a total wreck, face all bruised and swollen, completely pathetic.

“Angelina, you gotta back me up here. That person handling the house for Leilani actually dared to disrespect me like that. I mean, sure, they hit me, but it’s basically a slap in your face,” Kane said.

Angelina had just gotten home, basking in all the attention from her family.

Suddenly, she heard Kane’s complaint and looked confused. She asked, “Who hit you?”

Kane held his swollen face, saying, “It was Rosa and her lackey. I only brought friends to see the beautiful house and have a party. Who knew she’d actually have us beaten and thrown out?”

Angelina’s face fell.

“You’re my brother. If they hit you, they’re totally disrespecting me. Come on, I want to see if that old lady really thinks she can get away with being so arrogant,” she said.

Kane’s eyes lit up, and he perked right up, totally fired up at the thought of Angelina backing him up.

Hanna and Leilani had always been close, and Hanna was gentle by nature.

She hesitated, then said, “Angelina, perhaps let this go. Her Majesty cherishes Rosa and pities her solitude. Let her keep looking after the house. We’ve got plenty of other villas and estates; let Kane take his friends somewhere else to hang out.”

Kane replied irritably, “Mom, this isn’t about where we hang out. Angelina’s going to be the next queen, so even Her Majesty should at least give her some respect, right? And you, Mom, you don’t have to keep acting all meek around Leilani anymore.”

Angelina suddenly remembered how she’d tried to embarrass Layla and November on the spaceship, but they’d just brushed her off. She turned to Kane and asked, “What did the two people who hit you look like?”

“It was a guy and a girl. The guy was the one who did the hitting; he had a mask on. As for the girl,” Kane said, sounding a bit sleazy, “she was really pretty.”

Angelina gave a cold, knowing smirk. She said, “If they dared lay a hand on you, they’ll have to face the consequences. The Logan family isn’t to be trifled with.”

“Damn right,” Kane said, his grin stretching from ear to ear.

Pumped up, Kane rallied a whole gang and stormed off toward the estate, itching to cause a scene.

But when they got there, the gates wouldn’t budge.

Chapter 161

They tried to force their way in, but the estate’s automatic defense system sprang to life and opened fire on them without warning.

They never saw it coming. The whole crew was caught off guard, panicking and getting blasted all over the place. Within minutes, they were all limping away, tails between their legs.

Meanwhile, while November and Layla were out shopping, Zee pinged him with an update.

Layla stopped in her tracks and asked, “What’s wrong?”

November said, “That idiot Kane tried to pull something again, but it’s fine. Zee fired up the defense system and sent him and his gang running for their lives.”

Layla rolled her eyes. She said, “The Logan family really lacks boundaries. Angelina isn’t even officially married yet, let alone queen. And they’re already trying to get their hands on Her Majesty’s estate?”

November’s eyes dropped. He said, “Honestly, it’s probably because the Clark family’s not doing so hot either.”

Layla didn’t say anything more; she knew this was all tangled up in scheming and politics.

But she couldn’t help but feel bad for Leilani, who was being sacrificed in the middle of all this power struggle.

As for what November had said before, about taking her and Leilani to some distant planet for a quiet, happy life, Layla knew deep down that was almost impossible.

Maybe that was just something November wished for in his heart.

They strolled through the busy shopping district, grabbed a few things, and then made their way back to the estate.

But when they got back, they found the estate surrounded by a squad of stellar rangers.

These stellar rangers were all part of Meridia’s planetary defense force.

Layla froze and asked, “What’s going on? Who are they?”

November glanced down at his optical computer, checking the message Rosa had just sent.

“The defense system broke Kane’s leg. Now the Logan family’s called in the stellar rangers, trying to take over my mom’s place and see how the Clark family reacts,” November said..
