Sorry I'm Mated To The Commander novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Layla recognized these two guys. They were the ones who’d been checking her out brazenly just a while back.

The other one was his buddy.

But now, only the two of them were left. There used to be like ten of them.

They both looked like they’d been through hell. The one talking had lost an eye and his left arm, and the guy he was helping was in even worse shape, missing a leg, drenched in blood, totally out of it with blank, lifeless eyes.

They leaned on each other, slowly limping away.

November frowned, thinking, ‘Did he just say monster that eats people?’

Across the universe, every planet had its own starbeasts, but the word monster had pretty much fallen out of use for years

now.

Those two were so freaked out, they shuddered just at the mention of the word.

Layla suddenly asked, “So, did you guys find the Gate?”

The shaken man replied, “We found it, but hung back while our friends entered. The moment they stepped through the Gate, their screams echoed out. We fled, barely escaping. The monster attacked us, but it seemed like it wouldn’t leave the Gate.”

If that monster had chased them out, they would’ve been done for.

They were so badly hurt that after saying that, they hurried off to find a doctor.

Layla watched their backs, frowning. She said, “Could there really be a Pandora’s Box here? And is that crazy strong monster the gatekeeper?”

“Layla, I gotta go take a look,” November said.

“I’m coming with you,” Layla replied.

They exchanged a glance.

November frowned, almost ready to say no, but then thought, ‘If something dangerous is really going down, Layla deserves to know about it. And this crisis could threaten the whole universe.

“Alright. Just stay where I can see you,” November said.

“Mm,” Layla replied.

After a quick prep, they grabbed their weapons from their space buttons, latched onto the ropes others had left hanging in the abyss, and hopped onto their small aero-vehicles, descending into the depths below.

They thought it’d be tough to find the Gate, but before long, there it was, a massive gate, standing tall and imposing.

‘It’s so dangerous, and most people who go in never come back. So why are these guys still charging in like it’s nothing?’ Layla couldn’t help but think.

November and Layla kept their distance, watching from afar as the space hunters lined up, one after another, practically walking straight into their own graves.

But sometimes, someone would actually make it out, their psychic force supercharged and buzzing with energy. One of

them just casually waved a hand and smashed a giant boulder to pieces, like it was no big deal.

Mech suits were totally unnecessary at this point.

Seeing that, the rest couldn’t help but feel envious, and one by one, they started mustering up the courage to head inside.

After hanging back and watching for a bit, they finally caught on to the rule. If you went in willingly and didn’t try to back out, that bizarre monster won’t show up at all.

But if anyone got cold feet and tried to turn back right after stepping inside, these tentacles, just like the ones on an octopus starbeast, came whipping out to attack.

“That’s a mutated octopus starbeast. With tentacles like that, its main body must be massive. Honestly, it’s the most powerful starbeast I’ve ever come across,” November said.

Layla shot him a look and asked, “So, if you use Ares, could you actually beat it?”

November looked a bit put out. He said, “Layla, are you seriously doubting your man? I could smack that thing around even without a mech suit.”

“I believe you, but we have no clue what else could be lurking behind that door,” Layla said with a frown. “Are the authorities on Meridia even paying attention to this?”

November snorted. He said, “Pay attention? The Clark family’s in shambles, and the Logan family’s too busy fighting them for control. The other families are just picking sides. No one gives a damn about regular folks.”

Bottom line was that nobody cared if some world-ending monster came bursting out of that so-called Holy Gate in the abyss.

November said, “I’ll report this to Alpha Prime’s military command later, but whether they actually take it seriously or not, that’s up to my father and the leadership.”

Layla was momentarily stunned.

November met her gaze and said, “The highest authority on Alpha Prime rests with my father, and one day, Krish will inherit it. That’s something I’ve never forgotten.”

“But you’ve always risked everything to protect the people of Alpha Prime,” Layla said.

“Yeah, because they’re innocent. Right now, this abyss isn’t a threat to the ordinary people on Alpha Prime, but the people of Meridia, that’s another story,” November said, trailing off.

Layla knew that even Atlas, who always seemed so cold, actually cared about ordinary people.

She said, “Why don’t we figure out a way to warn the regular folks on Meridia? And you should give the higher-ups a heads- up, too.”

They weren’t heroes or anything. This was all they could really do.

Once the warning was out, it was up to each person to decide whether to stay or leave.

They lingered near the Gate for a while, keeping their distance. Eventually, they picked someone who’d just made it out and

decided to tail him.

After coming out of the Gate, the guy didn’t look any stronger than before. He was smeared with blood, but weirdly, there weren’t any obvious wounds. And the whole time, he had this creepy smile plastered on his face.

They had only been tailing him for a bit when someone blocked his way, who looked like an old friend.

The guy asked, “Jack, what was it like inside the Gate?” The guy didn’t even finish his sentence before all hell broke loose.

Suddenly, a monster head erupted from Jack’s neck, took a savage bite, and ripped his friend’s head right off.

November didn’t hesitate; he whipped out his gun and fired off a dozen shots straight at that monster’s head.

The monster’s head got blown to bits, and Jack collapsed, totally lifeless, with green slime oozing all over the ground.

What was oozing out of him wasn’t blood anymore.

Layla rushed over.

November said, “This is way more messed up than we thought.”

Layla stared at the body on the ground, horrified. She asked, “This guy?”

November nodded and replied, “Something had taken over his body.”

He looked up, his eyes locking onto the abyss nearby.

That so-called Holy Gate had to be sealed at all costs.

For this, November had to assume his identity as Prince Atlas again. Layla understood just how dire things were; after all. they had no clue how many shifters had already been taken over by parasite creatures and came out of that door.

Or really, they couldn’t even be called shifters anymore.

They were nothing but man-eating monsters now.

November called an emergency meeting of the Universal Alliance, while Layla headed back to Evelyn’s little white house. When Olivia heard that people coming out of the Holy Gate were all getting turned into monsters, she was absolutely

terrified.

“Lately, a bunch of people have been coming out of there, one after another,” Olivia said. Her face went ghostly pale, her voice trembling with fear.

That meant that in their little town, the person they passed on the street yesterday could’ve already been turned into a

monster.

Layla tried to calm her down. She said, “Don’t worry, Prince Atlas is already calling in reinforcements. The army’s on its way to keep everyone safe. But you guys should start packing up and get ready to leave.”

At the very least, once they were sure nobody in this town right next to the abyss had been taken over by those things, everyone would have no choice but to get out of here.

Just then, Evelyn said gently, “Is it okay if I call you Layla?”

“Of course,” Layla nodded and replied.

Evelyn said, “When you leave, could you take Olivia with you and bring her to Andrew? I’ve checked your brother’s condition, and I think Olivia’s singing could help with his psychic force injury.”

Layla said, “Of course, I can take her. Atlas is tied up right now, so once the ship gets here, I’ll head out first and bring Ms. Lowe along, Ms. Gill, you and Olivia should come with me, too.”

“You take Olivia with you. I’m just an old lady, I’ll be fine here,” Evelyn replied.

“Wait, you’re not coming with us?” Layla asked, surprised.
