Chapter 168

Chapter 168

Layla just glanced over, then looked away without another thought. She led Rosa and Olivia onto the starship.

Meanwhile, the Logan family, with Angelina, had also spotted Layla and her group.

Kane asked curiously, “Angelina, isn’t that one of Alpha Prime’s starships? You’re Prince Krish’s wife now, so you should be able to board it, right? Let’s go ride that starship. This regular spaceship is way too crowded, and it’s so slow.”

Angelina was tempted.

After all, that was Alpha Prime’s starfleet. Riding in one of those would definitely be faster and safer.

Most importantly, it would really show off her status.

Angelina cleared her throat, trying to act all dignified, and motioned for her guard to go talk to the starfleet officer. The officer, who was about to take off, paused in surprise.

“Which wife?” he asked.

“Obviously, Prince Krish’s wife,” the guard replied.

“Oh, I thought you were talking about Prince Atlas’s wife. If not, then forget it,” The stellar ranger said, and then turned away, climbed aboard, and started closing the hatch.

The guard was stunned, then blurted out, “You’re just a mere stellar ranger, and you dare disrespect Prince Krish’s wife? Aren’t you worried His Highness will hold you accountable?”

Just before closing the hatch, the stellar ranger waved his hand and said, “Sorry, the wind’s too strong. I can’t hear you.”

Then he shut the hatch.

The starship took off.

Angelina and the Logan family were left fuming, exchanging helpless glances, their faces twitching with frustration.

That was none other than Roger, acting under orders from Atlas to personally escort Layla and her crew back to Alpha Prime.

He said coldly, “Seriously? Prince Krish’s wife? Like she could ever outrank Prince Atlas’s partner. And she thinks she can scare me with Prince Krish? Please, does she even know Prince Atlas has knocked him around before?”

‘Like I’d ever put up with her attitude,’ he thought.

Layla had no clue about this little episode. She had half expected Angelina to barge onto the starship, but thank goodness that didn’t happen.

Otherwise, she really couldn’t stand that woman, and as for Angelina’s cousin, he was a total moron.

Even Layla, with all her patience, would’ve been tempted to throw a punch.

There was nothing Layla could do about the Holy Gate situation for now, so she sent a message to Nolan first, letting him know she’d found a doctor who could help with his condition.

At the same time, she also messaged Weston, asking how things had gone and if anyone got hurt or if there were any casualties.

Weston replied first.

Weston: [No casualties. Everyone’s been safely evacuated. Don’t contact me for now. Don’t worry

When Layla saw the message, she knew Weston was probably on the run. She didn’t try to contact him again. Instead, she logged onto the StarNet to see if there was any news about the prison break.

Layla also searched for anything about the Holy Gate mess.

But there was nothing about either incident on the StarNet. It seemed like both stories had been totally wiped from the

StarNet.

Just then, Nolan replied.

Nolan: [Thanks, Layla. When are you coming back?]

Layla: [I’ll be back tomorrow.]

Nolan: [Great. What time tomorrow? I’ll come pick you up.]

Layla had originally thought Nolan should just wait for her at home, since he probably wasn’t fully recovered yet.

But then she reconsidered. She had no desire to set foot in the Sullivan family’s house, but she still needed to treat Nolan. After thinking it over, she decided she’d have to find a separate place for his treatment.

There was no way she could bring Nolan to the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Nolan; it was the Sullivan family she couldn’t trust.

Bringing him to Prince Atlas’s Manor was out of the question, too.

And her school dorm wasn’t convenient either.

Layla just replied with a simple Okay to Nolan, then started browsing the StarNet, looking for a place to rent.

Money wasn’t an issue for her right now. She still had plenty of starcoins left over from selling her mech suit blueprints.

She figured she could rent a place to set up her own mech suit workshop. She checked out a few options online, but none of them really fit the bill. Then she remembered Andrew, who knew just about everyone.

Layla shot him a message, asking if he could help her out.”

Andrew, holding his optical computer, immediately turned to Atlas, who was frowning, and said, “Your Highness, Layla says she needs to rent a place.”

Atlas was frowning because he’d just chewed out that idiot Garrett. Garrett was supposed to bring his men over, but he chickened out and only sent his lackeys instead.

At the same time, John Logan had shown up, too. He already started to take charge as the commander on Meridia.

But John was a complete joke; he couldn’t even beat one of Atlas’s random adjutants in a fight.

This idiot actually wanted to march his people straight into the Holy Gate.

‘Bunch of morons, Atlas thought.

When Andrew spoke up, Atlas’s frosty look eased a bit. He nodded and said, “You know all the places I own. Just find out what she needs and give her whichever fits.”

“Yes, Your Highness,” Andrew replied.

Andrew, knowing the drill, asked Layla about her requirements. Once he heard she wanted a mech suit lab, he instantly

picked out the perfect place from Atlas’s real estate portfolio and shot her the specs, location, and price tag.

Layla was totally satisfied.

Layla: [Colonel Gill, I’m in a bit of a rush. Is it possible for me to move in right away when I get back?]

Andrew: [Of course. There’s still time before you arrive, and if you want to set up a mech suit lab, I’ve got friends who can get it ready for you.]

Andrew: [I’ll make sure you get a good deal on the price, too.]

Layla: [Perfect.]

She didn’t hesitate to send the starcoins over, thinking Andrew was really reliable.

With one thing finally off her plate, Layla glanced at her optical computer and shot a message to November.

Layla: [I’m looking to rent a place. Colonel Gill’s taking care of it for me. By the way, how are things going over there?]

Layla: [Ninth, promise me; don’t go through that Gate.]

Atlas read Layla’s message and felt unexpectedly good that she was checking in with him.

Even his usually icy lips curled into a rare, genuine smile.

November: [Don’t worry, I won’t just rush in there.]

November: [Can’t risk it. I’ve got a wife now.

^_^.]

Layla could only sigh. November was so hopelessly into her, it was like she was his whole universe. Honestly, her resolve to break things off with him was starting to waver.

On her way back to Alpha Prime, Layla received news that Leilani’s private residence really had been destroyed in an explosion.

The place was in a prime location, surrounded by the homes of the nobility, with no civilians nearby. And before the blast, the neighbors had all been warned in advance.

Even so, some still got caught in the blast.

Since it happened right in the heart of Alpha Prime, the fallout was massive. The noble families didn’t even have time to cover it up before the news exploded across the StarNet.

The StarNet was buzzing with rumors and speculation.

[Did someone attack it or what? Why did it suddenly blow up like that? Anyone get hurt?]
