Chapter 169
Chapter 169
[No one’s hurt, but some of the nearby estates owned by elite families got pretty banged up.J
[It wasn’t an attack; the place just activated its self-destruct defense system.]
[Come to think of it, wasn’t there some drama outside Princess Leilani’s private estate not too long ago?]
[This crowd is a total mess. Let’s not even get into it.]
The Logan family was trying to seize control from the Clark family, and the Clark family didn’t even dare to speak up. The ordinary people were even more afraid to say anything.
Layla was scrolling through the comments when a new thread suddenly popped up.
[Who knows what kind of drama those elites are into, but blowing up a perfectly good house is such a waste. Why not just let us regular folks live there?]
[Totally agree! That place has been empty forever. If Princess Leilani isn’t using it, why not let us have it instead of blowing it up? What a waste!]
[Everyone knows the elites have no idea what real life is like.]
Seeing those comments, Layla suddenly remembered that time she was on a spaceship and jumped in to take on the rebels.
But when the dust settled, instead of thanking her, people actually blamed her for not stepping in sooner. If she had, maybe their loved ones wouldn’t have been killed by the rebels.
Some even said thanks to Layla’s face, only to turn around and gossip that a girl who fought like that was probably never going to get married.
That was exactly what was happening to Leilani right now.
Leilani sacrificed her freedom and happiness for a lifetime, all to make sure Alpha Prime would protect Meridia.
But now, the very people Leilani risked everything for had already forgotten what she gave up. Instead, they were griping that since she was not living in her house, she should just let them have it.
‘What a bunch of ungrateful wretches! Do people like that even deserve to be protected?’ Layla wondered.
Just then, someone knocked on the door to Layla’s lounge. Layla opened it and saw Olivia, her eyes red and looking a little teary and downcast.
Olivia was holding some files. “Layla, I hope I’m not bothering you. I wanted to talk to you about Nolan’s treatment plan. I want to help him get better as soon as possible so I can get back to taking care of Grandma.”
Layla nodded. “Come on in. You’re not bothering me at all.”
Once Olivia came in, Layla poured her a cup of milk. “The Holy Gate in the Abyss still isn’t sorted out yet, and things are really dangerous over there.
“If you’re set on heading back, make sure to talk it over with Andrew and the others before you go.”
Olivia promised. “Yeah, I get it. Honestly, I’m just worried about Grandma. But don’t worry, Layla. I’ll do everything I can to help Nolan recover.
“I heard he’s a top-notch commander, and someone that talented shouldn’t be sidelined by sickness.”

Chapter 169
Layla looked at Olivia’s earnest face and gave her a solemn nod. “Olivia, I’m entrusting Nolan’s recovery to you?
“Oh, come on, Layla, what are you doing? You’re the elder. I’m just the junior here!” Olivia said, a little flustered.
Layla said, “Nolan really wants to get back to the military. If you can help him restore his psychic force, that would be the best outcome.
“It’s only right for me to thank you. By the way, Olivia, once we’re on Alpha Prime, don’t let others know our relationship for now. My relationship with Atlas isn’t public yet.
“Oh, I know! Grandma already told me. Don’t worry. When we get to Alpha Prime, I will tell people you’re my friend! And I’ll say I’m Colonel Gill’s relative, and that you asked Uncle Andrew for help.”
Olivia was clever and sweet, and Layla couldn’t help but treat her like her own kid sister.
Thinking about sisters for a moment, Layla realized Xanthe had gone quiet for quite a while.
But Layla still remembered what Weston had told her. Xanthe’s body was now home to a different soul.
Xanthe knew about Layla and Atlas, but hadn’t breathed a word to Krish.
There were only two possible reasons for that. One was that she was keeping it secret for Layla’s sake, but that was obviously not it.
Even though Xanthe had started playing nice on the surface, Layla could tell Xanthe still held a grudge.
Xanthe was just being more two-faced about it now.
‘So that only leaves one other possibility,’ Layla thought to herself. ‘Xanthe must be unable to tell Krish the truth.”
Layla was spot on. Xanthe knew way too much.
Xanthe knew about Layla and Atlas’s relationship, and she even knew that Nolan’s feelings for Layla would eventually turn from family to love. Xanthe even knew that Layla’s real father was a rebel!
But Xanthe couldn’t tell Krish any of this. In fact, she couldn’t tell anyone at all/ If Xanthe dared to spill the beans, she’d be struck down by lightning.
“System! What’s the point of knowing the whole plot if I can’t do anything?” Xanthe was losing it in her room, totally freaking out.
The system replied in its usual flat, robotic tone: [I’ve told you before. If you want to get back to your original world, you have to take the female lead’s place.
[Once you become the main character, that protagonist’s aura will send you home. One way is to win over the male lead, make him fall for you, and take her spot.
[The other way is to pick a new male lead, help him become the big boss of this world, and yeah, he has to fall for you. Honestly, the first one’s way easier.]
Xanthe rubbed her forehead, exasperated. “Easy, my ass! By the time I showed up, those two were already married and had even gone through their rut together.
“Shifters are super clingy to their mates. Once they’ve got one, just catching a whiff of someone else’s pheromones makes them want to puke! How am I supposed to steal Atlas away from her now?”
Just thinking about the timing of her time-travel made Xanthe scowl in frustration.
The original host was a total idiot. She was born into privilege, but still managed to mess up her life so badly that she got

herself knocked up by a side character like Caleb.
Rumor had it she lost the baby by accident, but the truth was, Xanthe had it aborted the second she took over the body.
The system asked: [So, are you really going to back Krishi? His psychic force and shift tier aren’t that high, and he’s not even the main villain in this story.]
Xanthe narrowed her eyes. “No way I’m backing Krish. His low shift tier is his biggest weakness.
“The real big boss hasn’t even shown up yet, and he’s seriously dangerous. I need to stack up some chips before I even think about facing him.”
And the easiest way to get those chips was obviously by using the ambitious crown prince, Krish.
Xanthe was in on every secret. She refused to believe she’d ever be outdone by Layla.
Just then, Xanthe was about to head downstairs to raise her favorability with the Logan family.
It turned out all her grinding these days was finally paying off; even Nolan, who used to be super hostile, was actually starting to warm up to her.
So, as she was heading downstairs, Xanthe saw Nolan about to head out and quickly called out to him, concern in her voice. “Nolan, where are you going? You’re still not fully recovered.
“Don’t push yourself. If you need anything, just let me know, and I’ll handle it for you.”
