Chapter 178
Chapter 178
Of course, November wanted to get married. He knew, without a doubt, that Layla was the partner he’d been looking for all along.
But November couldn’t bring himself to give a straight answer right away.
He hesitated for a few seconds, then he said honestly, “I really want to make our relationship public, but if you’re not comfortable with it, we can figure something else out.”
Layla lowered her gaze, watching the dishes under the warm light. She said, “Let’s get married.”
November’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with shock, as if fireworks were going off in his beautiful blue eyes. “Layla, are you serious?”
Layla saw the excitement he was trying to hold back and nodded.
‘That’s settled, then,’ Layla thought to herself.
She’d always lived her life on tiptoe, careful about everything, her whole life.
Nothing changed at Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, and it stayed the same after she joined the Sullivan family.
Layla still had no idea what things would be like with her long-lost father. She figured it wouldn’t be like growing up with him from the start, where she could act freely, without a care in the world.
Honestly, always being so cautious, second-guessing every move, worrying about everything, big or small, it was just so tiring.
Seeing November’s face light up with happiness, Layla couldn’t help but let a small smile tug at her lips. ‘Just this once, I’ll let myself be a little selfish,’ she thought.
“So, what about the wedding?” she asked.
“I’ll talk to Mother. You don’t have to worry about a thing,” November promised.
“Okay,” Layla answered quietly.
“Layla,” November murmured.
“Hm?” Layla glanced up at him.
November, sitting close by, reached out and took her hand. His big, fluffy tail slipped out and carefully curled around her ankle.
He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it, his eyes shining with pure, heartfelt joy. “I’m so happy!”
“Me too,” Layla whispered.
Maybe it was the excitement of getting married, but that night, the air in their bedroom was thick with pheromones, almost intoxicating.
Layla felt like she was being swept away, lost in a sea of blue.
She reached out, clinging to him like he was her lifeline in a stormy ocean. As the rose-scented pheromones swirled around them, Layla was the one who closed the distance and kissed him first.
This time, she let herself go, giving in to her feelings without holding anything back. And because of that, their passion

burned even hotter.
Because Layla made the first move, Atlas’s blue eyes lit up even more, and his nine fluffy tails quivered with delight.
It was destined to be an enchanting, unforgettable night.
However, not everyone was in such a good mood.
When Xanthe found out the palace was already making wedding plans for Layla and Atlas, she was so furious that she nearly cracked her silver-capped teeth.
Xanthe threw a fit in her room.
“That damn fool Krish!
‘Layla and Atlas were still wavering, and I could’ve used their whole background mess to stir up trouble, help Krish take the crown sooner, and keep both Layla and Atlas right where I wanted them!’ Xanthe fumed.
But no, that idiot Krish just went ahead and started planning their wedding!
But Xanthe couldn’t just spill Layla’s secret to Krish. She’d been dropping hints for ages, and it was only because Krish finally caught on that he managed to figure out November was actually Atlas.
The system’s voice stayed flat and unbothered. [Are you planning to give up on your mission?]
Xanthe stared at her sweet reflection in the mirror, her voice icy as she muttered, No way! I refuse to believe I’m any worse than that local nobody, Layla!”
The system asked: [What’s your next move?]
Xanthe sneered, “I still have Nolan as my ace in the hole, don’t I? His feelings for Layla are real. Now that she’s about to get married, there’s no way he won’t be hurting.”
Honestly, Nolan was really hurting.
Even though his psychic force was finally on the mend, when he got home, he just shut himself away in his room.
Back when his parents brought Layla home from Wastelands-9 Orphan Core; Nolan was already a teenager.
Nolan remembered seeing that quiet, timid little girl with those wide, curiou’s eyes.
Nolan crouched down to meet her gaze and said, “Layla, from now on, I’m your big brother. If anyone ever bullies you, just tell me, I’ll take care of them for you!”
Sometimes, to a kid, parents just felt out of reach.
But if one had a super cool big brother or sister who’d show up and have one’s back whenever someone messed with one, that was pure happiness.
So even though little Layla was a bit aloof, she quickly accepted her strong and gentle big brother.
For more than ten years, they were just like real brother and sister, super close, thick as thieves.
Even when Nolan grew up, graduated, and joined the Military Command, which meant he was often away from Alpha Prime, nothing ever came between them.
Then, one day, Nolan got a long vacation and came home all excited, already making plans to take his mom and sisters on a family trip.

But when he walked in, he saw the optical computer he’d given Layla, completely wiped and just lying there on the floor. Nolan felt a wave of guilt wash over him.
‘If I’d realized sooner just how much drama was brewing between Xanthe and Layla, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out. like this, he thought.
‘I never would’ve let Xanthe mess with Layla’s optical computer, and maybe Layla wouldn’t have gotten swept into this whole marriage mess,’ he wondered.
Just thinking about Layla ending up with Atlas left Nolan feeling totally helpless.
Atlas was Alpha Prime’s top commander; hell, he was even Nolan’s idol. There was no way Nolan could ever compete with Atlas.
So all Nolan could do was hope, with a bitter heart, that Atlas would treat Layla right.
“Nolan, are you in there? I need to talk to you,” Xanthe called from outside his door.
Nolan wiped his face with a towel, hiding his sorrowful expression, then opened the door. “Xanthe, what’s up?” he asked.
“Father wants you to come downstairs. He’s got something to tell us,” Xanthe said.
“Alright, I’ll be right down,” Nolan replied.
As Nolan came downstairs, Xanthe shot him a look, a cold smirk flickering in her eyes. ‘Tch, just as I thought. Still can’t move on from her,’ she scoffed inwardly.
Once everyone was settled in the living room, Karter cleared his throat and said, “Layla’s getting married to Atlas. Krish asked if I would agree to have her married off as a member of the Sullivan family.”
It was just for show.
Krish was deliberately going through the motions. After all, everyone knew Layla was just the adopted daughter of the Sullivan family. And she’d even been kicked out by the Sullivan family.
Krish wanted to scoop up all the benefits, make it look perfectly proper.so no one could criticize him, and even have Atlas be deeply grateful to him.
Xanthe couldn’t hide her disdain for Krish, her lips twitching in a cold sneer.
Nolan clenched his fists, then slowly relaxed them, forcing his voice to stay calm. “It’s only fair. Layla was part of our family for ten years, and if it hadn’t been for that whole mess, she never would’ve left us.”
Karter nodded. “Very well. Since you both agree, I’ll inform Krish of our decision.”
Layla found out about it the very next morning.
Atlas had just woken up, his fluffy tail still wrapped around Layla’s wrist. The optical computer patched Leilani through, and she got straight to the point, telling her son what was up.
“Krish suggested that Layla should leave for her wedding from the Sullivan family. Any thoughts?” Leilani asked.
