Chapter 19
Chapter 19
F:.
Layla was a little surprised. She wondered who wanted to see her.
Without a second thought, still in her training fatigues, she followed Shayla out.
It was still dark outside, Walking down the long corridor of the training base, Shayla couldn’t help berjare at the student beside her.
Her feelings were complicated.
Shayla actually saw great potential in Layla,
She had talent and chose the mech engineer track. But that field was a real money pit. The girl used to be the adopted daughter of the Sullivan family, but now that she’d been cast aside by the wealthy clan, could she still afford to study mech engineering?
Just as Shayla was even considering, offering, to sponsor the student, she found out that Layla actually knew Prince Atlas.
“Instructor, is something wrong?” Layla was perceptive and could feel Shayla’s eyes on her.
Shayla pressed her lips together. She was a very stern instructor. “It’s nothing” she said coolly
Layla was already a bit aloof by nature, but Shayla was even colder. The two of them walked the rest of the way in silence.
When they reached the door of a lavishly decorated lounge, Layla turned and said, “Instructor, I’m looking forward to taking your Mech Field Lab course after the training, is over”
“My course isn’t an easy A.
Layla smiled. “I like a challenge”
She had a vague feeling that the instructor had some kind of misunderstanding about her.
But since Shayla wouldn’t say what it was, Layla decided she’d just have to prove herself with her skills when the time came.
Layla turned to knock on the door and suddenly noticed a special insignia next to it.
The emblem looked familiar.
Back at the courthouse for the Genetic Pairing Program, the room Atlas had been in had the same insignia on the door.
Thinking back, she realized it must be the special mark of the royal family.
Layla knew who was waiting for her.

She knocked and entered. Atlas was sitting on a sofa made from black starbeast hide, dressed in a black military uniform. An icy aura radiated from him, a stark contrast to the soft, cuddly nine-tailed fox he’d been
before.
This was his true self, the one Layla had seen online.
“Your Highness,” Layla said calmly, “what can I do for you?”
“You filed for divorce before the military training began?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Layla’s eyebrows lifted slightly in confusion. “Your Highness, don’t you think we should get a divorce?”
Her matter-of-fact tone made Atlas’s brow furrow. “Should we?”
Layla explained earnestly, “Your Highness, your princess consort should be from a noble family. I’m an orphan who was adopted by the Sullivans for a decade and have now left them. I’m just a mech engineering student at Imperial Academy.”
Atlas had, of course, already investigated Layla’s background, but hearing her describe herself so plainly made him frown.
He pointed out a fact. “But we’re already married. And you helped me through my rut.”
Layla frowned. “But I didn’t know you were the prince at the time.”
Atlas’s eyebrows twitched.
‘So she’s put off by my title?’ he thought.
“Are you in such a hurry to divorce me because you have a crush on someone?” Atlas asked, his tone detached.
Layla shook her head. “No. I just… I think the royal court is too deep a rabbit hole for me.”
Atlas’s expression softened slightly. “Then we won’t divorce for now. You can go back to your training.”
Layla frowned. “I don’t understand, Your Highness.”
“You don’t need to.”
“What if I file for divorce at the Interstellar Courthouse?”
The next moment, a powerful psychic force flooded the exclusive royal lounge. Atlas closed the distance between them, leaning in to grip her chin, his eyes narrowing dangerously,
“Are you threatening me?”
Layla fought against his psychic force. “I don’t understand. You clearly didn’t want to marry me, so why don’t

you want to divorce me either?”
“My mother thinks I should have a commoner for a wife. And I need you during my rut. Are you satisfied with that explanation?”
Layla’s fists clenched.
Atlas had already let her go and turned away, straightening his cuffs. “I know you’re fearless, but you have things you care about, don’t you? Like, for example, the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core.”
Layla’s head snapped up.
He was threatening her.
She lowered her gaze, filled with regret. Why on earth did she ever walk into that lounge in the first place?
“I will reject your divorce petition,” Atlas said coolly. “By the way, remember to take your medication. Your body during this period…”
“Is there anything else, Your Highness? I have training soon,” Layla cut him off, nearly biting her tongue to keep her voice steady.
Atlas glanced at her. “No.”
The moment Layla forced herself out that door, her fists were clenched so tightly that her nails had broken the skin of her palms, drawing blood.
She should have pushed for the divorce while his rut was still in full swing.
But she knew now that she couldn’t be rash.
Just as Atlas had said, she had a weakness.
Celia Brennan, the director of the orphan core, and the other kids there were Layla’s Achilles’ heel.
‘No, there has to be a way, she thought.
Layla wasn’t one to give up easily. She quickly composed herself and headed for the infirmary.
If Atlas hadn’t mentioned it, she would have almost forgotten. After spending his rut with him, she needed to be careful.
She couldn’t have a child.
Because she and a man like Atlas were destined to have no future together.
*****
After Layla left, a helpless voice echoed in the prince’s exclusive lounge.
It was Zee, Atlas’s advanced AI.

“Master,” Zee said, “how could you talk to her like that? You’re clearly interested in her too, aren’t you?”
