Chapter 46

“Yes, Father,” Nolan replied.

With that, Nolan hurried after her.

The next moment, Karter’s face darkened again. He put down his fork and said coldly to Harper, “You’ve spoiled Xanthe rotten. Why do you think the James family postponed the wedding?

“Isn’t it because they’re worried she might not get into Imperial Academy? From now until the exams, she’s not allowed to go anywhere. Get her a tutor.

“No matter what, I want her to get into Imperial Academy, and she has to get into the College of Military too. Do you understand?”

Harper was so scared that she didn’t dare say a word. She didn’t dare go against Karter, so she nodded right away.

Meanwhile, Nolan finally caught up to Layla. “Layla, wait up,” he called out.

Layla turned around and said helplessly, “Nolan, you really don’t have to try and talk me into switching majors. I honestly think the Mech Engineering Division is great.

“Honestly, I did want to go into the Command Division at first, but after Xanthe changed my application to the Mech Engineering Division, I realized it’s actually really interesting.

“Nolan, if your mech suit ever has any problems, you can always come to me.”

Seeing the faint smile on Layla’s lips, Nolan knew how stubborn and determined she was. He let out a sigh. “Let’s talk about this later. It’s getting late. How about I take you back to school?”

“Okay,” Layla replied.

Nolan walked Layla all the way to her dorm. Along the way, he asked her about her training, and Layla skipped over anything about November and just gave him a brief summary of everything else.

Nolan said, “Layla, you know Tomas is Krish’s cousin, right?”

“Yeah, I know,” Layla replied.

“I heard Krish summoned Tomas today. You’re really talented, and Krish is all about recruiting the best people. So, he’ll probably be watching you from now on,” Nolan said.

Layla frowned slightly. Even though she’d always planned to divorce Atlas, she definitely didn’t want to have anything to do with Krish.

But just as Layla was about to speak, she spotted a tall figure waiting outside her dorm.

He was dressed in a sharp military uniform, radiating authority and a dangerous “don’t mess with me” energy.

It was Atlas, and he wasn’t in rut.

Layla couldn’t help but grimace. Suddenly, she wished she’d stayed at the Sullivan Manor a little longer, just to annoy them

some more.

Honestly, Layla would rather put up with Xanthe’s whole fake act than have to face Atlas when he wasn’t in a rut.

Atlas saw Layla too, and Nolan standing right next to her.

Chapter 46

His gorgeous eyes narrowed with danger, and the psychic force around him intensified, pressing down so hard that Nolan felt suffocated, his knees nearly buckling.

He had no clue why Atlas was suddenly coming at them, but he still managed to step in front of Layla. “Your Highness, mind telling us what we did to piss you off?”

“Why would I bother telling you?” Atlas said coldly.

Atlas narrowed his eyes, completely ignoring Nolan, and ordered Layla, “Come here.”

Layla pressed her lips together, then turned to Nolan. “Nolan, you should head back. Atlas wants to see me about something.”

“Layla,” Nolan wanted to ask, “Did you upset him or something?” but with Atlas shooting him that killer glare, Nolan just couldn’t get the words out.

But Layla had already turned around and walked straight up to Atlas. “Your Highness, whatever you want to say, let’s talk inside,” she said.

Atlas barely spared Nolan a glance, then turned and headed inside without another word.

The metal door slowly slid shut right in front of Nolan, sealing him out and leaving him standing awkwardly in the hallway.

The moment the door shut, Atlas tilted his chin with a mocking smile. “Layla, you’ve been dying to divorce me. Is it because you want to hook up with Nolan?”

Layla was completely shocked. “Your Highness, what the hell are you talking about?”

“What, you think I’m making stuff up? Then why are you so close to him? Or did you forget you two aren’t even related? Where did you two sneak off to this late, huh?” Atlas snapped.

Layla was shaking with anger. Staring at his handsome, hostile face, she spat out each word, “Your Highness, I want a divorce. It’s not about anyone else. It’s about you.

“I don’t want anything to do with the royal family. And I refuse to be with someone who doesn’t love me.”

Atlas’s face turned stormy, and the psychic force inside the dorm crashed down on her like a tidal wave.

Layla could barely breathe, her face pale as a sheet. Her nose started bleeding, hot and sudden.

But she didn’t back down. She swiped the blood away with her hand, defiant as ever, and stared Atlas straight in the eye.

Something in Atlas softened for a split second, and he pulled back his psychic force in an instant, but his words were still frosty.

“Layla, just give up already. I’m not letting you go anytime soon. That warning I gave you? I meant every word,” Atlas said coldly.

Cool as ever, Layla dabbed at the blood with a crisp white handkerchief. “I know you’re not joking. Are you done here, Your Highness?”

‘She’s really telling me to leave?’ Atlas thought.

Seeing how much Layla couldn’t stand him, Atlas felt a surge of anger he couldn’t even name.

For the first time ever, he found himself absurdly jealous of his own rut self.

Atlas narrowed his eyes dangerously, moving closer and closer, while Layla instinctively stepped back twice.

Her back hit the wall.

Atlas leaned in, his voice low and commanding. “Come with me. I want to take you somewhere.

Layla immediately grew wary. “Where to?”

Atlas sneered, “What, afraid I’ll eat you? You’ve already been through my rut with me, more than once. Why are you suddenly playing coy?”

Layla gritted her teeth. “It’s too late. I don’t want to leave campus.”

“You really don’t want to? Are you sure you can handle the consequences?” Atlas said, his tone full of warning.

Layla almost bit through her lip in frustration.

She was sure that if she didn’t go along with Atlas, who knew what he might do.

‘Why did I have to end up with a psycho like him?’ Layla thought, her irritation reaching new heights.

And of course, this psycho was powerful, high-ranking, and there was no way she could even put up a fight.

Layla thought, ‘Whatever, I’ve got nothing left to lose anyway!’ Gritting her teeth, she followed Atlas out.

They took a private corridor. Not a single student caught sight of them.

Now that Atlas was out of rut and back to his cold, collected self, he kept things low-key, steering clear of the public eye.

Layla couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What’s His Highness even want with me?’

She followed Atlas onto the aero-vehicle, and neither of them said a word.

Atlas was busy checking something on his optical computer, while Layla had zero interest in talking to him, so she just kept quiet and fiddled with the present her master had given her.

When the aero-vehicle finally landed, they stepped out, and Layla was stunned for a moment, staring at the imposing silver- gray building before her.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“My estate,” Atlas replied.

Layla whipped her head around to look at Atlas, utterly shocked. ‘What’s he thinking, suddenly bringing me to his home?’ she wondered.
