Chapter 48
Chapter 48
If this had been before she came to Atlas’s place, she wouldn’t have thought twice about the Al being named Zaa.
Layla knew her master, Weston, was really into Old Earth culture and always spoke in a poetic, old-school manner.
But after hearing Zee’s name, every time she heard Zaa, Layla couldn’t shake off the subtle shipping vibe between Zee and
Zaa.
She even got the weird feeling that Weston might be lurking nearby, already in on her and Atlas’s forced marriage.
“Layla?” Zaa’s voice was sweet and almost flirtatiously gentle, the kind that could make anyone’s heart skip a beat. Layla shook off all those thoughts, telling herself she’d better get out of here.
She stood up and headed for the door, just as Zee came in, wearing an apron and carrying a tray.
“Mrs. Zimmer, where are you going? The snacks are ready, and there’s some sweet soup too. Why don’t you have a little something to tide Mr. Zimmer over? Master’s meeting will be over soon,” Zee said.
“Making so many sweets for Layla this late at night? Are you trying to ruin her teeth?” Zaa’s voice, usually sweet, now carried a note of reproach.
Zee’s electronic eyes blinked. “Who’s talking?”
Zaa let out a little huff.
Layla couldn’t help but feel helpless. She was already in enough trouble, and now she had to play peacemaker between two
AIS.
She said, “Zaa, I’ve got a sweet tooth.”
“Oh,” Zaa replied.
“Zee, just set those down, thanks,” Layla said.
Layla might be fed up with Atlas right now, but she wasn’t about to take it out on his AI.
Besides, Zee was Weston’s creation.
Zee quickly set the desserts and snacks on the table, then poured her a steaming cup of milk.
Zee was practically buzzing with excitement as it asked, “Mrs. Zimmer, was that voice just now coming from your optical computer?”
“Yep, that’s my AI,” Layla replied.
“Is it called Zaa?” Zee asked.
Zee’s eyes practically sparkled like stars, and Layla was helpless. She said, “Just a random name, I only just turned it on, so I might change it.”
“Oh.” Zee visibly deflated, its electronic eyes turning into straight lines.
Zaa grumbled, “You can’t change it. The name’s locked in, and even Weston can’t do anything about it.”
At the mention of Weston, Zee’s eyes went wide.
Layla was just as surprised. ‘Seriously, Weston? You had to lock the name?’ she thought.

Chapter 48
‘If it had been any other name, I wouldn’t have cared, but why does it have to be a couple name with Atlas’s butler bot? she wondered.
Layla couldn’t help but feel helpless. Even the little cake in her mouth didn’t taste sweet anymore.
Zee’s big, round eyes kept swiveling back and forth, full of curiosity.
Every so often, it would sneak a peek at the optical computer on Layla’s wrist.
Good thing Zaa didn’t have a physical form right now, or Zee’s staring would’ve totally freaked it out.

After his meeting, Atlas took his usual cold shower and slipped into some comfy silver pajamas. He looked less intimidating than usual, almost gentle.
He saw Layla slumped in her seat, barely picking at the late-night snacks next to her. She looked totally down.
A flicker of annoyance crossed Atlas’s eyes.
‘Seriously? Does being here really make her this miserable?’ he thought.
When she saw him coming downstairs, Layla didn’t even bother to appreciate how ridiculously good-looking he was. She quickly said, “Your Highness, it’s getting late. I won’t keep you any longer.”
Atlas’s brows drew together. “You’re leaving?”
‘If you hadn’t locked down the front gate, I would’ve been out of here ages ago,’ Layla thought.
Even though Layla had access to a lot of the house, Atlas’s clearance level was still higher than hers.
Atlas said in a cool, detached voice, “Giving you access means this place is your home now. You can choose any room you want for your bedroom, except for mine.”
“Your Highness, I’d really rather go back to campus,” Layla said.
‘Yeah, right. If I actually spent the night at Atlas’s place, like I’d get a single minute of sleep,’ Layla thought.
Atlas’s displeasure was obvious, his brows furrowing as the tension in the room was almost electric.
Just then, Zee, thinking fast, blurted out, “Mr. Zimmer, isn’t it a crazy coincidence? Mrs. Zimmer’s Al is called Zaa. And it was made by Weston, just like me.”
Atlas’s eyes widened. “What?”
Layla’s mind blanked for a second. ‘Oh no, busted,’ she thought.
She’d been so busy worrying about Zaa’s name being locked that she hadn’t noticed Zee catching Weston part.
Layla bit down on her lip, fists balled tight, thinking, ‘If only I could hack Zee and shut it up for good.’
Atlas blinked, and some of the anger faded from his face. He looked puzzled. “How do you know Poseidon?”
Layla nearly snorted.
Poseidon was Weston’s alias.
In the mech world, all the big shots used aliases instead of their real names.
When Layla first struck out on her own, she picked Hades as her handle. Weston heard about it and immediately wanted one too, so he went with Poseidon.

Layla tried to tell him the name had some weird connotations, but Weston just got all mystical about it and insisted he was a water type, so it was the perfect fit.
Hearing Atlas say Poseidon, Layla was totally stumped for a second, not sure how to react.
She hedged, “I mean, I don’t know if the Poseidon you’re talking about is that crazy old guy. I just kind of bumped into him by accident, don’t really know him.
“He shows up out of thin air and disappears just as fast. This optical computer watch? He mailed it to me, and I have no idea what’s up with it. Was going to ask him about it, but he’s totally ghosting me.”
Her explanation was half true, half made up, but somehow it sounded totally believable.
Honestly, from what Atlas knew about Weston, the guy really was a bit of a nutcase, always acting all mystical and weird.
With that connection between them, the tension in the room finally eased a little. Atlas, eyes lowered, said in a softer tone, “Alright, you can go. Zee will see you out.”
“Okay.” Layla breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
Hanging out with November was a breeze, but whenever she was with Atlas, she was always on edge and couldn’t relax at all.
Watching Layla practically bolt out of the room, Atlas felt a sting. He glanced around. The mansion was so quiet it was driving him nuts.
He went back to his bedroom, but he didn’t even have the energy to do anything.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that things between him and Layla were an absolute disaster.
He’d wanted to bring her home, but somehow, it all just backfired on him.
But there was no way he was letting anyone else find out about this. He could conquer a whole planet, but when it came to his own relationship, he was totally clueless.
He frowned, then logged onto the StarNet Forum anonymously and started a thread.
November: [Got hitched through the Genetic Pairing Program, but I have no clue how to get along with my partner. Any advice?]
Within minutes, his notifications blew up, and the thread was instantly flooded with replies.
Atlas’s brow twitched as he scrolled through them. They were all identical,
Just one word. [Divorce.]
