Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Randall stood there in his crisp military uniform, holding a metal box.
He spoke in a formal, by-the-book tone. “Is this Layla’s dorm? She needs to sign for this herself.”
Annie narrowed her eyes. “You know Layla?”
Layla realized this wasn’t the snack delivery guy, so she walked over to the door. “Hi, I’m Layla. What can I do for you?”
“Can you verify your identity with your optical computer?” Randall said.
Annie couldn’t take it anymore. “Seriously, are you done? I get it, you were just following protocol at the Understreet exit, but what’s with you now?
“Did you start moonlighting as a delivery guy and now you’re acting all high and mighty?”
Randall’s expression didn’t change. He just stood there, cold and silent.
Layla didn’t want to make things awkward for him, so she pulled out her optical computer and did the ID check herself. Randall handed the metal box over to her.
“Make sure to keep this storage box safe. The default password is six zeros,” Randall said.
“Who’s this from?” Layla asked.
“My commander,” Randall replied.
Layla wanted to ask more, but he just turned and walked away, completely robotic, not a trace of human feeling.
Annie muttered, “Seriously, that guy’s like a cyborg, so stiff. Hey, Layla, hurry up and open it. Let’s see what’s inside. Whoa. That’s a ton of mech suit parts.”
Layla cracked the box open just a bit and saw it was stuffed with mech suit components. She fell silent.
She was pretty sure she knew who had sent it.
Layla looked up, catching the curiosity in Annie’s eyes. She cleared her throat and said, “I had someone source these mech suit parts for me online. Didn’t expect them to get delivered this fast.”
“You bought this much? Was Alex’s 100,000 starcoins even enough for all this?” Annie asked.
“Some of it was just the upfront payment,” Layla replied.
The actual snack delivery guy arrived just then.
Annie’s attention instantly shifted. She grabbed her snack haul and went back to her movie.
Back in her dorm, Layla glanced at the storage box sitting nearby pulled out her optical computer, and shot a message to
Atlas.
Layla: [Your Highness, did you have someone send me those mech suit parts?]
Atlas: [Yeah. Not enough?]
Layla fell silent.
Layla had no idea what he was thinking. Their marriage had always just been a means to an end, but now Atlas was suddenly

acting nice to her out of nowhere.
Things between them were getting messier by the day.
That was the last thing Layla wanted.
Layla: [It’s not that it’s not enough. I can buy these myself.]
Atlas: [It’s for you. Just take it.]
Atlas: [I’m busy now.]
Layla could tell he was done talking.
Truth was, she didn’t really want to keep chatting either, but he’d already sent her cash and now all these mech suit parts.
She frowned, thinking, ‘Maybe His Highness is actually feeling guilty for once. Did he realize he was just using our marriage. and now he’s trying to make amends?’
For now, she wasn’t going to return anything. She had a hunch that if she tried to give back the starcoins and mech suit parts, Atlas would probably blow up.
But she wasn’t planning to use any of it, either.
She’d just wait until they got divorced, and then return all of it to Atlas in one go.
Meanwhile, Atlas had just stepped off his aero-vehicle. After dealing with the rebels, he rushed to attend Leilani’s birthday
party.
When he noticed Layla hadn’t returned the gift, a faint smile tugged at his lips.
‘Guess I chose well this time,’ he thought.
The party hall was packed and lively. Dakota, the king of Alpha Prime, was right by Leilani’s side, while the Crown Prince. Krish, sat by himself at a single seat on the other end.
The ministers and guests kept tossing out blessings and good wishes.
The whole place was buzzing, but Leilani’s smile only became genuine when Atlas finally walked in.
Leilani knew Atlas had been out dealing with the rebels, but she didn’t want him to seek credit for it, so she didn’t mention it.
She smiled gently and said, “Now that you’re finished, take some time to rest.”
After greeting his father, Dakota, Atlas walked over to his mother. “Yeah, I’m done with everything.”
“Atlas, I heard the rebels were spotted in Prime City. Did you catch them?”
No one would’ve thought the one to bring it up would be Crown Prince Krish himself.
The ministers from Krish’s faction exchanged glances, some looking puzzled, others with subtle, complicated expressions.
Meanwhile, the military officers who were more loyal to Atlas were caught off guard.
They figured Atlas had been out there fighting on the front lines, hunting down void raiders and rebels; he definitely deserved some recognition for all that effort.
People always said Krish was trying to sideline Atlas or was wary of him, but honestly, it didn’t look like that at all.

Atlas kept his cool. “Didn’t catch them, but the Understreet’s been locked down. We’re checking everyone one by one.”
Krish gave a gentle smile. “You’ve really been working hard, Atlas. Don’t you think so, Father?”
Dakota looked at his two sons, then swept his gaze over the ministers. He nodded and said, “Atlas, you responded quickly. Still, if you can catch the leader of the rebels soon, that would be even better.”
“Yes, Father. I’ll do my best,” Atlas said, bowing his head.

Once the formalities were out of the way, Leilani said she was tired and asked Atlas to accompany her to the smaller hall in the back. As soon as they stepped inside, the weariness on Leilani’s face was replaced by a mocking smile.
“Krish is really something, isn’t he? Now he’s even trying to cozy up to the military guys,” Leilani scoffed.
“Whatever. That’s just how he is, always acting for the crowd,” Atlas replied.
Atlas was in unusually high spirits today. He sprawled out on the couch, poured himself a glass of wine, took a slow sip, and leaned back with his eyes half-closed, looking totally relaxed.
Leilani noticed her son’s good mood and asked with curiosity, “Atlas, did you manage to catch the rebels?”
“No, I didn’t catch them, but I’ve got some leads. Since there’s no real progress, I just told them we didn’t get anyone, so it’s not really a lie. Honestly, the whole thing was just a distraction orchestrated by Krish,” Atlas said.
On the queen’s birthday, Atlas led a squad to hunt down the rebels, then came back to bask in the glory.
That was basically making Atlas look bad in front of all the ministers.
And it would only make Dakota even less fond of his youngest son.
But what Krish and his crew didn’t expect was that the rebels actually showed up in the Understreet today.
Leilani smiled. “Alright, I know you’ve got your own plans for this, and I trust you. But I can’t shake the feeling there’s something else making you happy. Come on, tell your mom, let me in on it too.”,
‘Something to be happy about?’ Atlas thought to himself.
He instinctively touched the corner of his mouth, his tone casual. “Just that, nothing else.”
Leilani just gave a helpless smile and dropped the subject. “Oh, and when you head out later, grab some birthday cake for that girl, will you?”
“Maybe,” Atlas muttered.
Leilani could only shake her head at the way her son was acting all awkward.
‘Honestly, I’m really worried he’s going to scare off the wife he finally managed to marry,’ she thought.
Just then, a servant knocked respectfully and entered, announcing that Hanna Logan and her daughter were here to see Leilani.
“Alright, show them in,” Leilani said, a faint smile tugging at her lips. She shot Atlas a teasing look. “Atlas, you know Angelina’s here for you, right?”
