Weston looked at her surprised expression and said calmly, “Since I gave Zaa to you, you’re its owner now, and I won’t pry into your personal info.

“But I do know about the fact that you’re married to Atlas, because it’s connected to a deal I made with him back then.”

Layla’s eyes widened in shock.

She wanted to ask Weston what the deal was, but just then, the dormitory doorbell suddenly rang. Layla walked over to the video monitor and glanced outside.

She froze on the spot.

‘Why is Atlas here?’ Layla thought.

She didn’t open the door right away. Instead, she turned back to Weston with a complicated look. “Weston, Atlas is here.”

“Oh, he’s here to see me,” Weston replied.

Layla felt all kinds of emotions swirling inside. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Weston was scheming something behind her back.

And that deal Weston mentioned earlier, she really minded it, and it kept bothering her.

But right now, Atlas, who was known for his temper, was standing right outside her door.

She had no choice but to swallow her doubts and walk over to open the door.

The next moment, Atlas burst in. He scanned Layla from head to toe, and when he saw she was unharmed, he finally let out a sigh of relief.

Behind Atlas stood the principal and a bunch of other stellar rangers.

Layla asked, “What’s going on?”

Atlas was just about to bring up the rebels when he glanced inside and saw Weston lounging on the couch and even waving at him in greeting.

Atlas set his jaw and told the people behind him, “Wait outside.”

With that, he strode in and closed the door right in front of everyone.

Everyone traded puzzled looks, not sure what was up with Atlas.

Shayla, standing among the crowd, looked worried. ‘Could Layla be in some kind of trouble?’ she thought.

But less than a minute later, Layla, the dorm’s owner, was sent out as well.

Shayla hurried over to Layla and asked in a low voice, “Layla, what’s going on?”

“I have no idea,” said Layla.

Weston had just told her to step outside; clearly, he didn’t want her overhearing their conversation.

But Layla couldn’t make sense of it at all.

‘Why are Weston and Atlas keeping secrets from me?’ Layla thought, feeling a bit annoyed. ‘And what kind of deal did those ›

two make behind my back?’

Layla just knew, deep down, it had to be about her.

Meanwhile, inside Layla’s cramped dorm, Atlas and Weston sat face to face, the tension thick in the air. Neither was willing to back down, both silently sizing each other up.

Atlas narrowed his eyes at Weston. “I was tracking the rebels’ signal. Why did it point to you?”

“Because I am the rebels,” Weston said, completely unfazed.

Atlas’s eyes narrowed in shock, and his psychic force surged, filling the room with pressure.

But Weston just looked unfazed, even a little amused. “Atlas, why are you still so hot-headed? Not every rebel is a villain. Just like not everyone in your royal family is some kind of hero.”

“The rebels have committed a lot of atrocities,” Atlas said, his voice steady.

“I don’t know about that. I’m just a mech engineer. But you can relax, I’ve never done anything wrong, and I can promise you there’s no one dangerous at Imperial Academy,” Weston replied.

Atlas’s eyes narrowed as he caught on. “You brought me here on purpose? What are you after?”

“Consider this your early wedding present. Satisfied?” Weston said.

Atlas paused, then turned to Layla. “What’s your connection to her?”

“I’m her master, obviously,” Weston said with a shrug.

Weston was known as a mysterious mech engineer, and out of nowhere, Layla had switched to the Mech Engineering Division. Turns out, she was a natural at mech design.

Atlas narrowed his eyes. “So the person you said would be perfect as my wife was Layla? Did you already know our genetic match was a full hundred percent back then?”

Suddenly, realization hit Atlas like a lightning bolt. He shot to his feet, his handsome face clouded with suspicion.

“Wait, did you rig the Genetic Pairing Program so I’d end up marrying her?” Atlas demanded.

“Oh, come on, you really think I’m all-powerful? If I could mess with stuff like that, I’d be running the whole universe by now.” Weston grumbled, brushing his beard in exasperation.

“I didn’t do anything. I hadn’t even had time to get Layla to apply for the Genetic Pairing Program, and you two ended up together before I could lift a finger,” he added.

“Did she tell you that?” Atlas asked.

“Nope. The moment Layla brought up Zee, I just knew you two must’ve gotten together. You two are just meant to be, that’s all. Love’s weird like that. There’s no explaining it,” Weston said.

Atlas still didn’t buy it.

But Weston just shrugged, totally unfazed. “Your Highness, even though Layla’s left the Sullivan family, she’s not some helpless orphan for anyone to mess with.

“If you’re really not happy with this marriage, you can walk away if you want, but don’t even think about hurting her.”

Atlas looked up. “So, you’re here to stand up for Layla?”

Chapter 57

“Obviously. She’s my apprentice. I’m just an old guy, not much to brag about, except maybe my reputation in the mech world across the galaxy.

“But if you cross me, good luck ever finding someone to fix your mechs, or your friends, ever again.”

Out there in the universe, it was the commanders who led the charge and called the shots.

But everyone knew that mech engineers, especially the top-tier ones, were a big deal.

Without mech engineers, commanders would have no mech suits and no stellar rangers to command.

Without them, a commander would be nothing but a general with no army.

Honestly, Weston’s threat packed a real punch.

Atlas let out a cold laugh. “Weston, you’ve known me long enough to know no one can threaten me.”

“Me, threatening you? Please. I’m just worried about Layla. Do you even know why I joined the rebels?” Weston said.

At the mention of the rebels, Atlas’s brow furrowed.

Weston lowered his voice, looking serious. “Layla’s birth parents might have something to do with why the rebels suddenly showed up twenty years ago.”

Atlas went quiet.

He’d always known Layla was adopted by the Sullivan family and grew up in an orphanage, but it never crossed his mind why she wound up there, or who her real parents were.

Now it was obvious, Weston truly treated Layla like his own.

But he hadn’t even taken her to his mom’s birthday bash.

Weston suddenly clicked his tongue, his expression turning serious. “As far as I know, Your Highness, you still haven’t made your marriage to Layla public, but you haven’t called it quits either. Care to explain why?”

Atlas didn’t say a word.

A few minutes later, the door to her dorm room creaked open. Layla walked in, only to find that Weston was already gone.

She glanced over and saw the window wide open. ‘Seriously? Weston actually climbed out the window?’ she thought, exasperated.

But he just left like that, and still didn’t tell her what that deal was all about.

Just then, Atlas, still lounging on the couch with that regal, distant air, suddenly broke the silence.

“Layla, let’s get married,” he said.
