Chapter 58

Layla turned to him, surprised. “Aren’t we already married?”

Atlas replied, “I mean a wedding, a public ceremony to announce our marriage to all citizens of Alpha Prime.”

They were legally married, but their relationship had always been kept under wraps.

Only Leilani knew about it.

Seeing Layla frozen in place, still in shock, Atlas said, “Don’t worry about the wedding. I’ll have everything taken care of

With that, the arrogant and highborn prince Atlas just turned on his heel and strode off.

He didn’t even bother letting her say no.

Layla ground her teeth, totally ticked off.

She immediately called Weston on his optical computer, and thankfully, he finally picked up.

“Weston, you just left without even saying goodbye. And what did you tell Atlas? Why does he suddenly want to throw a wedding? Seriously, answer me.” Layla demanded.

On the other end, Weston, who was about to board his spaceship and make a quick escape, quickly pulled his optical computer away. “Oh, I’m about to get on the ship.

“The signal’s bad. If you need anything, just leave me a message. That’s it for now, bye.”

And with that, he hung up.

Layla was totally exasperated. ‘Weston is so unreliable,’ she thought.

If everyone found out about her marriage to Atlas, Layla knew she’d have no way out; she’d be totally trapped.

Layla fired off a message to Atlas on her optical computer, not wasting a second.

Layla: [Your Highness, I really don’t think it’s the right time to announce our marriage. Can we wait a bit longer?]

No reply. Just like before, her message got ghosted.

Layla almost wondered, ‘Is my optical computer broken or something?’

The dorm was dead quiet, with a few snack wrappers scattered on the floor. Annie had left those behind the last time she was here.

Layla was never one to back down. She took a cold shower, hoping the icy water would snap her out of it and help her calm down.

With the parts she’d bought, Layla settled down to fix Alex’s mech suit, making sure to ignore all the stuff Atlas had left for

her.

As for the crowd outside, once Atlas left, they all scattered.

But a few teachers leaned in and whispered to Davis, “Mr. Taylor, what’s the deal between Layla and Atlas?”

“Yeah, she’s so talented. Do you think His Highness is trying to bring her into his circle?’ another teacher chimed in. Everyone knew that in the royal family, Krish’s faction was seriously wary of Atlas..

And Layla was even more outstanding than Tomas among this year’s freshmen.

Davis frowned at the teacher. “Let’s not talk about this any further. Today’s events never happened, understood?”

The Imperial Academy never got involved in princes’ power struggles.

Their only responsibility was to nurture young talent.

But one of the teachers couldn’t help themselves and forwarded the info straight to Krish.

Krish stared at the message on his optical computer, muttering under his breath, “Why is it always Layla?”

Angelina, walking beside him, shot him a curious look.

When she saw Layla in her school uniform, her gaze sharpened instantly.

Your Highness, since when did you start paying attention to that girl?” Angelina asked.

They were standing close, and Krish pulled Angelina into his arms, looking pleased as her cheeks flushed bright red.

Krish’s voice was enticing. “Angelina, would you help me out with something?”

Angelina’s legs went weak in his embrace. “Of course, I will.”

Krish said, “I want you to get close to Atlas and figure out what’s up between him and that girl.

“Okay,” Angelina replied.

As the night deepened, the two of them drew closer, their bodies pressed together until they were lost in each other’s embrace.

Two hours later, night had fallen. Layla had finished fixing Alex’s mech suit and even whipped up a little weapon for Annie, a shape-shifting energy weapon that could pack a punch.

She still felt a bit bummed she hadn’t found what she was looking for in the Understreet earlier.

Layla went to find Alex first and handed him back the mech suit button, then headed over to Annie’s dorm.

When Layla got to Annie’s dorm, she found Annie looking totally out of it, like her soul had left her body.

Annie was just sitting there, staring into space, looking like she was questioning her entire existence.

Her cat ears were flattened back, drooping down in defeat.

‘Did you get struck by lightning or something?” Layla asked, reaching out to touch Annie’s forehead.

‘She doesn’t feel hot, Layla thought.

Annie looked up at her, eyes wide and desperate. “Layla, I just clicked to apply for the Genetic Pairing Program. Is there any way I can cancel it?”
