Chapter 60

Layla’s rejection was so blunt.

On the other end of the optical computer, Atlas’s handsome face darkened.

In all his life, Atlas had never met anyone who dared to defy him like this.

Seeing Atlas frown, Zee quickly chimed in, “Mr. Zimmer, you gotta be gentle with women. Seriously, don’t lose your temper with Madam. If you do, things will just get even more awkward between you two.”

Atlas was emotionally detached by nature and had no clue how to deal with people. The only time he was a little better was during his rut, when he acted more like a kid.

Zee was honestly worried sick about Atlas.

‘Man, what would this family do without me?’ Zee thought.

Even though Atlas’s gaze was icy with anger, he actually listened to Zee’s advice and didn’t reply to Layla right away.

Still, he found Layla’s rejection an eyesore.

So he told Zee to get rid of her message.

Zee sighed and did as he was told.

‘Mr. Zimmer really can’t keep acting like this,’ Zee worried. ‘If he doesn’t shape up, his wife’s going to bail for sure.

Meanwhile, Layla’s emotions grew even more complicated when she saw that Atlas hadn’t sent another message.

‘He clearly doesn’t like me, so why won’t he just divorce me?’ she wondered. ‘And why is he still planning such a lavish wedding?

‘It must be His Highness Krish putting pressure on him. He’s just using me as a pawn to reassure Atlas’s faction.

Her heart sank even further.

She glanced at Atlas’s name and just went ahead and blocked him.

She slipped into her black training gear, pulled her long hair into a sharp ponytail, and, looking ready for action, headed straight out of her dorm to the training room.

Aside from her regular mech suit design work, Layla made sure to hit the training room often to run drills in virtual mech

suits.

When Layla walked into the mech suit training room, she spotted her teammate Alex standing there, looking a bit irritated.

There were a few girls gathered around him.

One of them was Martha, who was engaged to Caleb’s cousin and got along really well with Caleb’s sister, Denise.

The other girl, with golden curls and looking sweet and dainty, was Vanessa Mooney, the heiress of the noble Mooney family.

“Alex, seriously, why am I not good enough for you? If you got with me, your standing in the family would get a serious boost.” Vanessa complained.

Martha chimed in with a sly grin, “Alex, you never used to act like this. Did Layla get to you or something? What’s her

pheromone even sinell like?”

At the mention of Layla. Vanessa’s expression instantly darkened.

Honestly, one just couldn’t ignore Layla. She was a total standout.

She scored a perfect mark on her entrance exams.

People thought they were finally rid of her when she got kicked out of the Sullivan family.

But then she ended up winning first place in the training contest.

She even outshone the golden boy, Tomas..

Alex was already in a foul mood, but since they were all girls, he couldn’t just start swinging.

But when he heard them talking smack about Layla, he bristled instantly.

“Are you done yet? Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you’re girls. Keep talking trash about my teammate and see what happens,” Alex warned, his eyes flashing.

“You really think you’d hit us poor girls? Not afraid your family will hear about it?” Martha taunted, not backing down at all.

Layla walked over to Alex and said, “It’s really not a good idea to hit girls. Besides they might just go tattling to your family later.”

Alex frowned. “But they’re being so damn rude.”

“Yeah, they seriously need someone to teach them a lesson,” Layla said, shooting a smirk at Martha and Vanessa, who looked ready to blow a fuse.

Layla continued, “So let me do the honors. Go ahead and snitch to your folks, see if I care. Besides, I’m a girl too, so what’s your excuse?

“How do you want to settle this? Hand-to-hand, virtual mech suit, or real mech suit? Your call. Hell, you can all come at me together if you want.”

Layla was too cocky.

Vanessa and Martha were shaking with rage.

But Layla was telling the truth; she wasn’t part of the Sullivan family anymore.

So even if they went crying to Karter or Harper, it wouldn’t do them any good.

None of them could even hold a candle to Layla.

But they were five against one.

“Layla, you really think you can handle all five of us at once?” Vanessa challenged.

“No problem. You guys pick how you want to lose,” Layla shot back.

Vanessa glanced at her crew, then squared her shoulders and declared, “Fine, let’s settle this in the mech suit PK ring.”

Everyone knew that fighting in the mech suit PK ring meant one could actually get hurt.

‘Wow, they’re really out for blood,’ Layla thought, her smirk growing wider.

“Works for me,” she said.

As the group made their way to the mech suit arena, word got out fast, and soon a crowd of students had rushed over, all eager to catch the action.

Just as Layla was about to suit up, Alex blocked her path. “Layla, this all started because of me. Let me take care of it

Layla shook her head. “Nope, honestly, I should be thanking you. I was in a crappy mood anyway, and kicking their asses? Not even a shred of guilt.”

If she were just sparring with her teammates, Layla wouldn’t hit them too hard.

She didn’t want to hurt her teammates.

But now that Vanessa and Martha had basically volunteered to be her punching bags, Layla couldn’t be happier.

She turned and climbed into the school’s standard B-Tier training mech suit.

All the training mech suits were B-Tier, and for any mech suit battle, everyone just used the standard training suits.

But when Layla hopped into her mech suit and jumped onto the arena, she immediately spotted that two of her five opponents were rocking A-Tier mech suits.

Layla couldn’t help but grin.

‘Hell yeah, this is going to be fun, Layla thought, her adrenaline kicking in. ‘Finally, a fight that’s actually worth it.’

While Layla was busy throwing down in the arena, Atlas was getting schooled by Zee on all the ways to treat girls gently.

Half convinced, Atlas followed Zee’s advice and sent a much gentler message.

But his message got blocked the moment he hit send.
