Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Her fiancé, Branden, used to have feelings for Kierra.

Annie snorted, “Doesn’t matter what happens to him. I’m done with him anyway.”

The Mooney family and the Marshall family were related by marriage, so technically, Branden was Aisha’s nephew.

Aisha was momentarily stunned.

Meanwhile, Layla gave Annie a quick tug.

She whispered, “Don’t get yourself into trouble.”

Layla was really glad Annie was backing her up right now.

It hit Annie that, with the whole gene match situation, she was actually the one who ditched Branden first.

She had no idea just how much chaos this would cause between the two families.

Alex shot Aisha a cold look. “This whole mess was Vanessa’s doing. If you’re upset, take it out on me. Layla was just helping

me out.”

“I know you, Alex. Just because you’re merfolk and think you’re tight with Her Majesty, don’t get all cocky. Vanessa actually likes you, and you have the nerve to act all ungrateful?” Aisha snapped.

Alex was so pissed that veins were popping out on his forehead.

He’d heard it all his life, just because he was good-looking, people acted like he should count himself lucky that anyone liked him.

Some people even whispered gross, messed-up things about him behind his back.

Since Alex wasn’t from the main branch of the Richmond family, nobody ever took him seriously. Whenever he tried to get more for himself, people would just say he could get by on his looks alone.

So Alex worked his ass off to get stronger. He got into Imperial Academy and became a top trooper, and only then did things finally start to change.

But honestly, it only made things a little better.

Girls like Vanessa from those old noble families were still the same as ever. They always thought their fancy status meant they could order people around as they owned them.

Layla could tell her friends weren’t really fighters. The real issue was that, unlike her, they actually had something to lose; they couldn’t just throw caution to the wind.

She whispered, “Alex, relax. She won’t dare do anything. Just ignore whatever she says, it’s just hot air, maybe a little stinky, but nothing to worry about.”

Annie couldn’t help but burst out laughing at Layla’s blunt comparison. “Wow, Layla, I never thought you’d say something so

crude.”

“I just say whatever fits, depending on who I’m dealing with,” Layla shot back.

Even Alex, who’d been steaming a moment ago, couldn’t help but let a smile slip.

Aisha was slow to react, but when she saw them laughing, it finally clicked, and she was so pissed, her makeup was practically

falling off in chunks.

“You rude little brat. Someone, shut that girl’s mouth,” Aisha barked.

Knowing she couldn’t take Layla on herself, Aisha ordered her bodyguards to step in, acting all high and mighty, right in front of the teachers, no less.

Layla narrowed her eyes, her grip tightening around her morphing whip, ready to turn it into a weapon at any second.

If the teachers just let Aisha’s bodyguards attack her, Layla was ready to go down fighting, even if it meant dragging everyone down with her.

One thing was certain. She absolutely wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

Annie and Alex exchanged a glance, then stood their ground beside Layla, unwavering in their support.

If they backed off now just because they were scared of Aisha’s influence, then they weren’t worthy to stand by Layla’s side.

Just then, a cold, lazy voice cut through the tension.

“Mrs. Mooney, you’re really putting on quite a show. You look like you think you’re even more important than the royal family. But last time I checked, the royal family on Alpha Prime is the Zimmer family, right?” said Atlas.

Atlas strode in with unhurried steps, his military uniform crisp and sharp, his face cold and unreadable.

His boots thudded against the floor, each step echoing like a hammer blow to everyone’s nerves.

Aisha, her bodyguards, and even the teachers who’d been standing by all felt a chill run down their spines.

Annie and Alex froze for a second. They’d just run into Atlas again.

It had only been a short while since that whole incident in Understreet.

Layla felt a rush of mixed emotions. She never expected Atlas to show up, and from the way he was calling out Aisha, Atlas was really here to back her

‘No way,’ Layla thought, totally thrown off.

No wonder Layla was so skeptical.

Honestly, Layla could never bring herself to like Atlas when he wasn’t in rut

He was arrogant, manipulative, sharp-tongued, and cold.

One could slap any negative label on him, and it’d fit.

Plus, he just kept using their marriage to get whatever he wanted.

Aisha was scared out of her wits. She instantly dropped all her pride, groveling as she stammered, “Your Highness, I swear I didn’t say anything against the royal family.

“It was that brat’s fault. She’s the one who hurt my daughter. Vanessa’s still in the hospital and hasn’t even woken up yet.”

Atlas didn’t even bother with Aisha’s crocodile tears. He strode right past the crowd and locked eyes with Layla, standing there unfazed in her black training gear, cool and collected as ever

‘Good, she’s unharmed,’ Atlas thought, a wave of relief he didn’t expect washing over him.

He didn’t even realize that, though his face stayed icy and aloof, every inch the high-and-mighty prince.

“Mrs. Mooney, if I’m not mistaken, your daughter is an adult now, right?” Atlas said.

“Y-Yes, she is,” Aisha stammered, her voice trembling.

“She’s an adult, got into Imperial Academy, and chose to fight other students in the mech combat arena. No matter how things turned out, shouldn’t she be the one to take responsibility?” Atlas pressed.

Aisha’s chest tightened with bitterness. Sure, Atlas had a point, but the one lying in the hospital was her daughter.

‘Who does she think she is, anyway?’ Aisha sneered to herself. ‘Just a worthless orphan nobody wants.’

Atlas turned to the two teachers nearby, his gaze cold. “You two teach at Imperial Academy?”

“Y-Yes, Your Highness,” they stammered, their voices trembling.

“Get lost,” Atlas said coldly.

“Atlas, what did we do wrong? Why are you dismissing us?” both teachers asked anxiously.

Atlas glanced down at his cufflinks, just as Davis rushed in with a group of people. The moment Davis saw Atlas, he froze in his tracks.

‘His Highness Atlas is actually here?’ Davis thought, stunned.

But then it hit him, Karter and Krish were on their way, and Davis felt like his head was about to explode.

‘Crap, if those two princes run into each other here, things could get messy,’ Davis thought, his heart pounding.

“Davis, these two teachers just stood by and let outsiders push around Imperial Academy students without even bothering to find out the truth.

“Should we really keep people like that around?” Atlas said, his tone cold as ice.

Davis was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at the two teachers, who looked very pale.

He shot a glance at Aisha, who’d been acting all tough just a minute ago.

Now he got the picture.

Davis waved them off. “Head to the admin office and settle your pay for this month. Don’t bother coming back tomorrow.”

The two teachers were left dumbfounded, shooting desperate looks at Aisha, hoping she’d step in and plead their case.

Landing a teaching job at Imperial Academy was no small feat; it was a seriously prestigious gig, and they’d worked hard to get it.

But Aisha just turned away, looking all kinds of desperate.

‘Don’t even look at me. I’ve got my own mess to deal with, Aisha thought, panic rising inside her.

Atlas shot Layla another look, then turned to Aisha. “Mrs. Mooney, is your daughter dead yet?”

Aisha’s lips twitched, but she forced herself to answer, “My daughter is seriously injured. She’s still in the hospital, fighting

for her life.”

“Your daughter’s in the hospital, fighting for her life, and you’re not even there with her? Are you even her real mother?”

Atlas shot back.

Aisha froze for a second, then it hit her. She nodded frantically. “You’re right, Your Highness. I’ll go stay with Vanessa right

away

“Good. Remember, if something happens in the arena, handle it there. Don’t make me lose respect for the Mooney family Atlas said coldly.

Aisha’s knees went weak. She nodded like crazy, grabbed her bodyguards, and practically ran for her life.

Davis finally breathed easy. Thank god, this circus is finally over, he thought.

But right at that moment, a warm voice called out, with a hint of amusement in it. “Well, fancy running into you here. Atlas. What brings you around?”
