Chapter 68
Chapter 68
Layla might be hell-bent on divorcing Atlas, but no one else gets to trash him in front of her.
Her stare was icier than Chaim’s grin. “Not only are you weak, but you’re not even that bright. Who are you to judge him?”
“Hey, who are you calling stupid?” Chaim snapped.
“I’m saying the person who let you join the Crown Squad had to be even more clueless than you are,” Layla shot bark.
Chaim shot to his feet, barely a row away from Layla, looking like he was about to throw down right then and there.
Then a laid-back voice chimed in from nearby, “Chaim, you seriously want to pick a fight with Layla? Did you forget how she soloed five people all by herself?”
Chaim’s face fell.
‘Crap, I totally forgot about that,’ he thought.
Rumor has it, two of those girls were elite troopers piloting A-Tier mech suits.
But Layla wasn’t about to let Chaim off that easily.
She raised an eyebrow and said, “Chaim, why do you always have it out for me? If you think you’re better, then let’s settle it. Mech suits, mech battles, virtual duels, pick your poison.”
After what happened to Vanessa and her crew, nobody in their right mind would dare challenge Layla one-on-one.
If they couldn’t even take her down in a group, going solo was basically asking to get wrecked.
Chaim’s face kept changing, but in the end, he just clammed up.
But the student who’d spoken up earlier just let out a lazy laugh. “What else could it be? He’s jealous of how awesome you are, and he’s scared you’ll take his place in the Crown Squad.”
“Relax. I’m never joining the Crown Squad,” Layla sneered.
Just thinking about Krish and his backstabbing ways made Layla want to stay as far away as possible.
‘Guys like him would milk you dry, sell you out, and you’d probably end up helping them count the cash, she wondered. As for the guy who kept talking?’
Layla shot him a look. “So, Jayvon, is that busted leg of yours all healed up now?”
Jayvon was the Mech Engineering Division student who’d let a croc-beast bite off his leg during the first round of the training games.
Jayvon just stared at Layla for what felt like forever, not saying a word.
Layla ignored him, turned around, pulled up her optical computer, logged in, and got straight to the test.
The test lasted two hours and was split into a written section with 200 multiple-choice questions and a hands-on practical
exam.
The practical part would be graded as S Tier, A Tier, or B Tier depending on your performance.
Layla breezed through the multiple-choice questions. She could answer them in her sleep.

Chapter 68
She finished all 200 questions in no time, and a dialog box popped up on her screen: (First candidate to enter the practical stage. Do you want to start right away?]
“Yes.” As soon as she spoke, her vision went dark.
After what felt like ages, light started to flood in. Once Layla’s eyes adjusted, she found herself in front of a massive mech suit cockpit.
There were all sorts of parts and gadgets everywhere, yep, this was the virtual mech suit cockpit.
“This setup is awesome. Wish I could snag one for myself. Zaa, think you can clone this system for me?” Layla asked.
“I’ll give it a shot,” Zaa replied.
“Let’s keep it professional, Miss,” a slightly deep male voice interjected.
Layla went quiet for a moment.
‘How was I supposed to know there was an advanced AI here?’ she thought.
She’d just assumed this was some pre-set exam system.
‘Seriously, what’s so wrong with wanting to copy the data from this virtual cockpit?’ Layla grumbled to herself. Pretty sure that’s not illegal, right?’
Layla, unfazed, retorted, “Who are you?”
The deep male voice answered, “Who I am isn’t important. You being here, we are meant to meet. Alright, Miss, help me solve this problem, or you’re not getting out of here.”
Layla paused, a bit thrown off.
‘What’s up with this exam AI? It’s acting seriously weird,’ she thought.
Layla couldn’t help but think, ‘Since when does failing a question mean you’re stuck here? That’s a new one.
Layla’s curiosity was piqued. ‘Since I’m already here, might as well see what’s up,’ she thought, strolling calmly up to the practical console. “Alright, so what’s the challenge?” she asked.
“Simple,” the voice replied. “How do you get an S Tier mech suit to unleash Ultra-S Tier power?”
Layla went quiet.
For a moment, she almost wondered if this AI had seen right through her secret Hades persona.
Layla kept her tone steady as she countered, “Do you seriously think it’s appropriate to ask a freshman, an S Tier student, at that, to tackle an Ultra-S Tier mech suit problem?”
The Al freaked out way more than Layla did. “What the hell? You’re just a freshman? No way. You shouldn’t even be here.”
Layla replied, “Honestly, I’m just as lost as you are. Maybe I got a different set of questions than everyone else?”
The AI shot back, “Questions? What questions?”
After that, both Layla and the advanced Al went dead silent.
Seriously, even someone with a wrench could tell something was off here.
Meanwhile, the exam was still going on outside.
Chapter 68
Time ticked by, and more and more students finished the multiple-choice section, moving on to the practical part
Chaim was holding his breath throughout the exam, full of determination.
He kept telling himself, ‘Sure, Layla’s got impressive fighting skills, but she’s just a rough, reckless type. When it comes to mech fundamentals and technical know-how, she can’t be better than me.
Chaim’s goal for this exam wasn’t just to get into Class S.
His real goal was to surpass Layla.
So he flew through the questions, giving it his all, and when it came to the practical part, he really outdid himself. performing way beyond his usual level.
In the end, Chaim was the very first to finish the entire exam. When he logged out of the virtual test system and realized he was the first one done, he was practically buzzing with excitement.
Chaim was feeling super confident about his results, and now, he’d even finished the exam faster than Layla.
There was a good chance he might actually surpass her.
As more and more students finished their exams, even the chatty boy, Jayvon, finished his test in no time.
He walked over, saw that Layla was still working on hers, and frowned, looking really confused.
“That’s not right,” he muttered to himself.
