Chapter 77
Chapter 77
“The situation is, he’s married, as I’ve told Your Majesty,” Leilani explained, “but he never made his identity public. His newlywed wife was Karter Sullivan’s adopted daughter. The Sullivan family has kicked this girl out. But then, out of nowhere, Karter forced her to divorce our boy and marry Caleb James.
“It was a decision made by the Sullivan and James families. They didn’t know Atlas’ identity and pressured his wife. And when Atlas learned about it, he totally lost it and, in the heat of the moment, ended up injuring both dukes. That’s why I’m here to apologize for him.”
Dakota caught on. “So, you’re saying Karter and Hector still have no idea that the girl’s husband is Atlas?”
“Yeah, Atlas was wearing that custom mechanical mask you gave him. No one except himself could take it off, so of course, they hadn’t seen his face. He didn’t even use his own mech suit,” Leilani replied.
“And Atlas still doesn’t want to reveal his identity?” Dakota asked.
“Nope, he doesn’t. He feels like he’s finally free from being Prince Atlas, and he gets along really well with his wife. He just wants to keep things simple and avoid making a fuss,” Leilani said.
“It’s probably for the best,” Dakota commented. He’d always worried his youngest son was too talented and might end up challenging Krish for the throne.
But now, Atlas was willing to keep a low profile, just living as a normal guy, a regular husband to someone he loves. Honestly, Dakota felt relieved.
As his father, Dakota was more than glad to smooth things over for him. He said, “Don’t worry. I’ll handle this, and I won’t let them find out Atlas’s identity.”
“Thank you so much, Your Majesty,” Leilani replied.
The conversation between Dakota and Leilani went off without a hitch, and both of them were thoroughly pleased with how things had turned out.
As Leilani was making her way out of Dakota’s library after their afternoon coffee, she caught sight of Krish approaching
“Your Highness,” Krish greeted Leilani with a slight bow.
“Oh, Krish, there you are,” Leilani replied warmly. “Your father’s in his library; do go right in.”
“Very well,” Krish said with a nod.
As he turned to leave, he couldn’t help but note how bright Leilani’s mood was. Could it be that his father and Leilani were truly mending fences between them?
‘Uh-oh, that’s definitely not good,’ he thought to himself.
As he stepped inside, he casually dropped hints about how November had taken down the two dukes, and how Atlas appeared to be backing him up, framing it all as if Atlas were deliberately trying to win people over to his faction.
It was precisely this kind of scheming that Dakota feared and loathed above all else.
But Dakota, sipping his coffee without missing a beat, just rolled the name “November: around in his mind. He could tell right away it was Atlas’s alt identity.
‘Looks like this kid really has given up on power and just wants to live a normal life, Dakota thought to himself. As a father, he had to support that.

So he dismissed it offhandedly, “Honestly, Hector and Karter were totally out of line. The young couple is already married and happy together. Why force them to split up? But since they’re still cabinet bigshots, you might have someone send them a care package, just to show we care.”
Krish froze. ‘Wait, that’s it?’ he thought, baffled. Then it hit him. Leilani had been all smiles earlier, and now his father was straight-up defending Atlas. His heart dropped.
“No way. Is Father trying to elevate Atlas’s status?” The thought sent a sharp spike of anxiety coursing through him.
“I’m going to take a short nap,” Dakota said, his tone clipped and dismissive. “If there’s nothing else, you may leave.”
“Yes, Father,” Krish replied, his voice tight with reluctant compliance.
Word soon reached Leilani that Krish had left the library with a pretty sour look on his face.
Meanwhile, Leilani received a package from her son, Layla’s home-cooked meal. Leilani savored it alone with relaxation.
The food wasn’t as fancy as what the royal chefs whipped up, but it had that comforting, homemade taste. Honestly, it was delicious.
Leilani squinted and chuckled. “Knowing he’s in a bad mood just makes my day even better.”
Mollie smiled and added, “Your Highness, it’s been ages since I’ve seen you this happy.”
“Honestly, as long as Atlas and Layla keep getting along so well, I’ll probably be in an even better mood,” Leilani had another bite of food and said leisurely.

At Imperial Academy, there had been two fights back-to-back these past few days. And the ones causing all the commotion? A married couple.
So when Layla and November walked back onto campus, all eyes were instantly on them.
Everyone knew Layla used to be adopted by the Sullivans, and now she had nothing to do with them. Currently, it is November’s identity that everyone was dying to know.
How could he beat up Caleb and even knock out the two dukes, then just stroll back onto campus like nothing ever happened? People were baffled.
Even their own crew of people, like Annie, was blowing up their group chat/ trying to get the scoop on November’s real identity. Layla couldn’t exactly spill the truth.
November squatted next to her, checking out the messages on her optical computer. “Layla, why not just tell them? It’s not like my identity is anything to be ashamed of.”
Layla gave him a look. “If you really do that, you’ll totally freak out once your rut is over.”
November was equally bothered. He had little recollection of what transpired after his rut faded, and each time the rut descended upon him, he felt like someone roused fresh from hibernation. His very first thought, without fail, was to seek out Layla, to be by her side.
Now that his rut was fading out once more, he felt the familiar lull of “hibernation” mode closing in. But he refused to let it take hold; he couldn’t stand being away from Layla, his body aching to stick to her like a shadow.
Layla couldn’t bring herself to push him away, so she just let him follow her to class.
Now that the Class S rosters for the Command, Mech Suit, and Trooper tracks were finalized, there was a daily class where all thirty students from the three tracks attended together.

Crown Squad’s five members all got into Class S, but their faces were anything but cheerful as November snagged the top spot in Command, and Layla dominated Mech Suit..
Only Wayne, Grown Squad’s ace trooper, clinched first in the Trooper track. From Layla’s old crew, only Alex squeezed in besides her and November, and he barely made it at ninth place.
Annie and Wallace didn’t make the cut. Annie was feeling pretty down. “We’re not in the same class anymore! No more teaming up and hustling side by side!”
Layla’s mouth twitched. “Sober up, Annie. We’ve never been in the same class. You’re in Trooper, I’m in Mech Suit, remember?”
“That’s not the same! Now you’re always with.those Class S Trooper guys. After a while, maybe you’ll get bored of me and Wallace and just toss us aside.” Annie complained.
Layla was speechless. ‘Seriously, why does she make it sound like I’m some kind of heartbreaker?’ she thought.
Alex gave them a dramatic eye roll. “There’s an exam for Class S every six months. If you ace it, you might get in. So quit whining and get to work.”
Annie was just about to fire back when her optical computer suddenly chimed
Layla instantly recognized that notification sound. Seeing Annie’s surprised look, she asked, “Don’t tell me, your marriage application just got approved?”

Annie pulled a long face. “I thought the match was a bust since I hadn’t heard anything these days. So what am I supposed to do now?”
“It really depends on whether you’re ready to marry this person,” Layla said.
Annie gave it some serious thought after hearing that. “I’m heading to the courthouse to see what this guy looks like first”
Alex couldn’t help rolling his eyes. “You’re so shallow.”
“That’s not being shallow, that’s just being realistic.” Annie retorted.
The two started bickering again.
November suddenly slid up next to Layla and whispered, “Layla, did you go to the courthouse that day to check if I was good-looking?”
Layla just shoved him away speechlessly. If she could turn back time, she definitely wouldn’t have gone to the courthouse, and she’d make sure to give meddling Xanthe a good smack first.
Annie was dying to scope out her match, so she dragged Layla along, claiming Layla was the expert at this sort of thing.
November wouldn’t leave Layla alone and stuck to her side like glue. In the end, Alex joined in too, and soon all four of them were crammed into an aero-vehicle, heading straight for the courthouse.
The Crown Squad was training when they spotted the four heading out together. Romeo scoffed, “If Annie never gets into Class S, Layla’s definitely going to drift away from her.”
Kierra stayed silent, feeling a weird twinge of envy as she saw Annie and Layla leave arm in arm.
Chaim came over with a smirk. “See? They’re not even inviting Wallace to hang out anymore.”
Tomas looked up at his teammates and commented, “Not necessarily.”
Everyone glanced over, not really sure what Tomas meant by that. But Tomas didn’t say another word, just stared off in the direction Layla had gone.
Layla and her crew swaggered into the courthouse, and that was when it hit her: last time around, that guy had walked her straight through the royal members’ passage.
No wonder all the staff had been acting weird, and people stared at her left and right. Back then, she’d just thought it was because hardly anyone used the Genetic Pairing Program these days.
Turns out, it was all because she’d been let into the royals’ exclusive lounge. And those strict confidentiality rules were the reason everyone clammed up about it, keeping the whole thing quiet for now.
When it all sank in, Layla turned to November, and he just grinned. Speechless, she rolled her eyes hard.
A soft-spoken staff member greeted Annie warmly. Upon realizing the others were merely there to offer their support, she raised no objections, only saying, “Please wait in the VIP lounge. Your match just sent word that he’ll be here in ten minutes.”
There was nothing out of the ordinary about a girl bringing her whole crew along for an event like this.
Annie was practically bouncing with curiosity, glancing around before yanking everyone into the lounge.
Glancing around, Layla became even more aware that this was nothing like the royals’ exclusive lounge. This space was sparse to a fault, with two sofas facing each other, a single coffee table in the middle. There were no refreshments on hand;
