Atlas knew that Layla and Nolan were supposed to be brother and sister. But still, there was no blood relation between them!

And every time Atlas saw Layla hanging out with Nolan, completely at ease, she’d even smile now and then, looking like she was in a great mood!

Atlas just felt this weird pang in his chest for no reason.

Krish discreetly watched Atlas’s slight frown, knowing full well that Atlas had witnessed the whole scene just now. That put Krish in an exceptionally good mood.

Atlas and Krish didn’t grow up together when they were little.

When they got older, the whole succession drama made them suspicious of each other and drift apart.

Atlas had told his mom ages ago that he didn’t care at all about the throne, so he started keeping his distance from Krish.

So after finishing his coffee, Atlas stood up. “Krish, I should get going.”

“Alright, Atlas. Be careful out there on the battlefield,” Krish said.

Krish wasn’t just saying that to be polite. Even though he was worried Atlas might try to take the throne from him, he also knew his brother was a real powerhouse, practically a war god on Alpha Prime.

If Atlas stayed loyal and kept backing him up when Krish became King, Alpha Prime would be unshakable in the universe.

After Atlas left, Krish heard from his right-hand man that the so-called brother and sister were still hanging out at the coffeehouse. Krish let out a soft chuckle. “Let’s go check it out.”

Meanwhile, Nolan and Layla spent some time talking about their classes and what they wanted to do in the future. Nolan started to feel a little better after the chat.

Nolan was about to leave for his off-world base, and Layla was heading to the orphanage on Wastelands-9.

Since it’d be a long time before they saw each other again, they lingered a bit longer, making the most of their time together before parting ways.

Just then, Krish strode in with his entourage, catching both Nolan and Layla off guard.

Nolan quickly stepped forward. “Your Highness, what brings you here?”

Layla got up as well, greeted Krish politely, but kept her distance.

She could feel Krish’s eyes sweep over her, and even though there was a hint of annoyance in his gaze, he was so good at hiding it that Layla almost missed it.

“Just passing by, don’t get all tense,” Krish said, flashing a knowing smile. “You two seem pretty close for siblings, huh?”

Nolan glanced at Layla and nodded. “Yeah, we’ve been side by side since we were kids.”

“So, not long ago, Layla’s husband decked Duke Karter. Doesn’t that piss you off?” Krish said.

Layla was sure now. Krish might be all smiles, but he was here to stir up trouble and sow discord.

Layla figured Krish was probably still bitter that she and November had both started siding with Atlas.

Krish still had no clue about November’s real identity. From his perspective, the two talents he’d been counting on were both getting closer to his brother, and that really rubbed him the wrong way.

Nolan hurried to smooth things over. “It was honestly just a misunderstanding. My dad even told us to drop it and not bring it up anymore.”

“Duke Karter really is a magnanimous man,” Krish chuckled, then turned to Layla, raising an eyebrow. “Layla, is there something you don’t like about me?

“I heard from Tomas that he invited you to the winter training camp, but you turned him down?”

“I’m sorry. I just didn’t have the time. It’s a pity,” Layla replied.

“Or was it that you just didn’t want to go?” Krish prodded, his words starting to sound a little aggressive.

But with Krish’s status and the fact that the Sullivan family was firmly on his side, Layla kept her eyes lowered, neither submissive nor defiant, and didn’t say a word.

Here it was again. It was that feeling like the weight of authority was pressing down on her, making it hard to even breathe.

Just then, the door to the private room burst open, and the crisp sound of jet-black military boots hitting the floor cut through the air.

Atlas scanned the room. his gaze finally settling on Layla. “Layla, come here. I need to talk to you,” Atlas said.

Layla nodded. “Okay.”

But Krish suddenly called out, “Atlas, didn’t you just leave?”

“Just remembered something. Later, Krish, Atlas said. The moment Layla stepped out, he didn’t waste a second, and he just turned and left, walking so fast that Layla had to hurry to keep up.

The door to the private room closed.

At last, Krish and his people were shut out of sight.

But with the transparent glass, they could still see what was happening outside. Layla stayed silent, just lowered her head. and sent Nolan a quick message to let him know she was leaving first.

Layla was trailing after Atlas down the long hallway, straight to his aero-vehicle.

This was Atlas’s personal ride. Roger and the other adjutants had already taken separate aero-vehicles to the port, standing by for departure.

Atlas had come back by himself.

“What did Krish want with you?” Atlas asked.

As soon as they stepped into the aero-vehicle, Atlas’s pent-up anger finally burst out. His pheromones flared up, thick with jealousy and frustration, swirling through the cabin.

Atlas was already simmering after seeing Layla alone with Nolan, and now Krish had to show up and get involved, too.

Layla rolled her eyes. “He came after me, all because of November, causing trouble! November beat up both Duke Karter and Duke Campbell, and nothing happened to him at all.

“If you ask me, Her Majesty must’ve put in a good word with His Majesty, so November didn’t get punished one bit. No wonder Prince Krish is so pissed!”

Atlas narrowed his eyes.

Atlas had to admit that Layla totally nailed it. His dad might not want Atlas going up against Krish for the throne, but aside from that, he actually treated Atlas pretty well.

After all, Atlas was his own flesh and blood.

The tension in Atlas’s eyes eased up a bit. “But you know, November did all that just for you.”

“Yeah, I know. Honestly, I’ve always had a soft spot for November,” Layla admitted.

Atlas’s expression turned awkward. Sure, he was the one Layla was talking about, but for some reason, hearing her say it out loud made him feel strangely irritated.

It felt just like his wife was telling him, to his face, that she liked some other guy.

‘Whatever, let’s just leave November out of this for now, Atlas thought.

“What’s the deal with you and Nolan? You two were holed up in there alone for hours, weren’t you?” Atlas pressed.

“Your Highness, are you here to interrogate me today? Or have you forgotten what our marriage really is?” Layla shot back. “If you want to talk about divorce, we can have a real conversation.

“But if that’s not what you’re here for, sorry. I’ve got things to do. I’ll be on my way.”

With that, Layla turned on her heel and left without looking back.

Atlas moved in a flash, grabbed her wrist, and slammed her up against the metal wall of the aero-vehicle.

“Layla, don’t test my patience! I told you, divorce is off the table for now. It’s not happening! You hear me?” Atlas growled.

‘This damn woman, hanging out and drinking coffee with other guys, getting way too close to Krish, and always bringing up divorce.

‘Seriously, is she trying to make me lose my mind?’ Atlas fumed.

The psychic force in the air was so intense that Layla could barely breathe.

The dominance of his rank was overwhelming. At the same time, the scent of cedar started to seep in, slowly wrapping around her, filling every corner of the cabin.
