Chapter 98 Let’s Have A Baby
The kids totally looked up to Layla and always did whatever she said.
Even though they really didn’t want to part with the mech suits, each of them couldn’t help but touch the machines one last time before heading over to November, letting him pack them up.
They were all so sweet and mature for their age.
November just stood there, a little spaced out, watching everything unfold. It wasn’t until Layla gently reminded him that he snapped back and packed all the mech suits away into the storage buttons.
The yard, which had been packed with mech suits just moments ago, was finally back to its usual empty state.
Layla saw November zoning out and couldn’t help but think, ‘Prince Atlas probably never gave anyone a present before. Even if the gift was a bit much, his heart was in the right place!’
“November, I’m blaming you. The kids just aren’t ready to mess with mech suits yet, but it’s great that they’re interested. Plus, rolling out all those mech suits definitely made Tommy and his crew think twice,” Layla said softly.
“November?” She’d been talking for a while, but he was still totally out of it. Layla waved her hand in front of his eyes, trying to snap him back.
November instinctively grabbed her fingertips.
The warmth from his palm seemed to spark right through her psychic force, almost like it could set her soul on fire.
Layla instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but November held on, persistent as ever. “Layla, do you really like kids?” he asked.
“What?” Layla was puzzled.
“I saw how patient and gentle you were with the kids just now. You really do like them, huh?” November looked up, his blue eyes practically glowing. “So… when are we gonna have an adorable baby together?”
Layla felt tongue-tied.
She jerked her hand free and turned, walking off without another word.
November just stood there, his gaze flickering, but he didn’t go after her.
Layla’s thoughts were all over the place. She told the kids to go play by themselves and wandered over to the slide she used to play on when she was little.
Beside the slide was a ginkgo tree. In the interstellar era, most plants had died out, but a few were still around-the ginkgo was one of them.
Its golden, fan-shaped leaves were so pretty.
November could clearly sense the shift in Layla’s mood. He frowned, wondering, ‘Is it that she doesn’t want kids at all?
‘Or maybe… she just doesn’t want to have kids with me?’
Celia’s voice sounded. “Layla was left under that ginkgo tree; and I was the one who brought her back to Wastelands-9 Orphan Core. When she first arrived, she never cried or made a fuss.
“I actually thought something might be wrong with her vocal cords at first, but it turned out she was just quiet by nature. And now, in the blink of an eye, she’s all grown up-and even married.”
The elderly Celia let out a gentle sigh, her eyes soft as she watched Layla standing beneath the ginkgo tree.
November pressed his lips together, hiding the complicated emotions in his eyes.
Celia didn’t notice. She continued softly, “Layla really loves children, and all the younger ones adore her.
“Maybe she just feels it’s not the right time to have a child. I don’t really know what’s going on between you two, but no matter what, I just want Layla to be happy.
“She’s so thoughtful and mature. You can’t help but feel protective of her. How could her parents have been so heartless, abandoning such a wonderful kid?”
As Celia spoke, her eyes gradually became tearful.
November just stood there, staring blankly at Layla’s back.
‘Is Layla afraid our kid would end up like her, growing up without their parents around?’ he wondered.
