Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 183

Chapter 183

Lillian’s POV

Grayson looked between me and Teacher, but didn’t ask any more questions. He seemed to trust me, which made some guilt swell inside of me. Maybe I should have told him the truth, but what would that even have been? I had a burst of strength, destroyed a training dummy, but it’s gone now and probably won’t happen again? He had enough on his plate to worry about something so minor.

If it were to become a regular thing, I’d mention it. For now…

“Did you need something, Prince Grayson?” Teacher asked.

Yes, Grayson must have come out here for a reason. He glanced between Teacher and me.

“I want you to speak to your contacts in the rogues,” Grayson said to Teacher. “See if anyone can give us any leads on where to find Blood Fang and their leader.” His gaze shifted to me. “Calvin.”

“Calvin?” I gasped.

Grayson filled us in on what he had learned from speaking with Ophelia, the connection between Ophelia to the Alpha Minister to Calvin.

This was how I learned the mercenary had been assassinated.

“You didn’t tell me that…” I said. Teacher stayed quiet, but with the way they had been talking he clearly knew. Grayson felt comfortable bringing Teacher into the loop, but not me? I thought we were past all the mistrusting and misunderstanding each other, but here he was keeping secrets –

My thoughts immediately skidded to a halt as I realized how much of a hypocrite I was being. Here I was accusing Grayson of keeping secrets, but wasn’t I now doing the same about my sudden strength?

Shamed, I lowered my head and tried to calm down.

Grayson watched me. “I should have told you, but I didn’t want you to worry. There was nothing you could have done…”

“Please tell me if I should be aware of an assassin on the loose,” I said.

Teacher cleared his throat. “She’s in a position of danger. It would be smart for her to be kept aware of whom she can trust, especially when we are unlikely to truly discover who the assassin really was.”

“Was it a guard?” I asked.

“Or someone pretending to be one,” Grayson said. He reached for me and took my hand in his. “Lily, I am sorry.”

My heart thundered, my guilt raged. “It’s fine,” I said quickly, hoping to move off this topic.

“I will speak to my contacts,” Teacher said. “The rogues – the good ones – have to be furious that Blood Fang is threatening the peace agreement. I don’t think they will protect Calvin. I will have to leave the palace for a few days. I don’t trust any messages right now. I want to speak to them in person.”

Grayson nodded. “I will give you written permission to come and go as you please.”

“Thanks.”

I suspected that Teacher had been coming and going as he pleased anyway. Maybe Grayson knew that too, and that played a part in making it official. Teacher didn’t need to sneak around anymore when he was working in tandem

with the prince.

should make preparations then,” Teacher said. He looked at me. “I leave the training grounds in your capable hands, Lillian.”

“I can handle it,” I said.

“I know.” Teacher walked away then, leaving Grayson and me alone.
