Chapter 194

Lillian’s POV
Calvin withdrew a silver dagger from his belt. His intentions were clear, he wanted me dead. With rogues around me on all sides, there wasn’t much I could do. But I wasn’t going to just roll over and let him kill me. If he wanted me dead, I would fight to the bitter end.
“Aren’t going to beg me?” Calvin mocked. “Not going to cry and plead? Offer yourself? Maybe if you strip naked, I’ll be convinced to spare you. Maybe if you open your legs and finally let me have what’s always been mind.”
“Never,” I told him fiercely. Even facing certain death, I would never belong to Calvin. Grayson had my heart and my soul. No knife blades or threats would ever be able to change that.
In my rage, I felt a flux of power – just like when I had destroyed the training dummy or tore the bed in half. Yet instead of using that to kill Calvin, and be killed in return, I turned and ran.
A rogue stepped into my path, trying to block me, and he became the target of my ire. I grabbed him and threw him. He flung like a ragdoll flying high into the air before falling to the ground with a horrible crunch.
I wasted no time looking back. My strength left me as quickly as it had come, but I still had my natural speed.
I ran forward as fast as I could, heading up the side of the mountain. I pushed my body as hard as I could, my legs aching. The cold burned my lungs. But I didn’t stop. To stop would be to die at Calvin’s hands, and I’d rather let the mountain claim me.
Inside, my hammering heart called out for Grayson. Oddly… he seemed close
I had to be imagining things. There was no way that could be possible. Grayson was back at the Royal City, working to keep the fragile peace agreement intact.
These rogues, Blood Fang… they didn’t seem to care about peace. To follow Calvin, they only cared about death and destruction and chaos.
I ran until – Stop! My feet slid on the ice, taking me precariously close to a sheer cliff with a raging rapid river down below. Far below. Even into water, the fall would likely be enough to kill me.
I turned around, ready to dash in a different direction, but Calvin had kept a closer pace than I’d hoped. He and a few of his rogues closed in, stopping any escape that wasn’t the cliff.
I reached for the hidden strength inside of me, but it was depleted. I couldn’t depend on it.
Goddess. What was I going to do?
Calvin laughed, the shrill sound echoing off the mountain side, sounding like it was coming from every direction.
I lifted my hands. My physical strength was weak for a werewolf. I wouldn’t do much in hand to hand combat. But I had to try.
Again, my soul stirred, feeling my mate close. That couldn’t be possible. He would have had to run at full sprint for two full days to reach me here.
And yet…
Maybe if I held out for just a little longer.
Grayson. Hurry.

One of the rogues stepped forward first. I took a swing at him, managing to hit him on the jaw. He barely flinched. My attack didn’t have much power behind it, despite my best efforts, and despite it being mostly technically sound.
The rogue grabbed me and pushed me down onto my knees.
Calvin came forward with the knife.
“We could have been good together, Lillian. A shame you couldn’t see things the right way.’
“Go to the hells,” I spat at him.
“Defiant even to the end,” Calvin growled. “Fine. Be that way.”
A howl sounded in the distance. Familiar.
“What was that?” one of the rogues said.
“There are wolves out here.”
“That was a werewolf. An Alpha. Maybe even a Lycan.”
