Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 208

Chapter 208

Grayson’s POV

I stood outside of the Alpha Minister’s cell while the doctor went in to deal with the body. Crossing my arms, I leaned against the wall. Prime Beta stood nearby, watching me.

“Does this mean that it’s over?” Prime Beta asked. “If the Alpha Minister was funding Blood Fang, and Calvin was leading it, it should totally be dissolved now. Lillian should be safe?”

“I’m not sure, and that angers me,” I admitted. “None of the evidence we have found has implicated Odette, other than Ophelia’s word. But if she has any responsibility in this, then I’m not sure we can call this over, even if the Blood Fang has been decimated.”

I wasn’t willing to take a chance with Lily’s life, so I wouldn’t let my guard down. Besides, the Alpha Minister had been in jail all this time and things had still been happening behind the scenes. I wasn’t yet convinced that whatever he had set in motion wasn’t still in motion.

“Let’s meet with Lone Archer,” I said.

“Yes, Alpha.”

An hour later, I sat in my office, with Lone Archer sitting across from me and Prime Beta near the door.

“I’ve reached out to my contacts and can confirm that Blood Fang is greatly weakened. Without Calvin to lead them, they’ve scattered,” Lone Archer said. “I’m not willing to say they are entirely dissolved, not yet. But we are well on our way to that eventuality. My folks will keep up the pressure.’

“}

I nodded, still not satisfied.

“Relax, kid,” Lone Archer said. “You did good. Without Calvin and Blood Fang around to screw things up, the peace agreement should hold. This is cause for celebration.”

“I don’t think I can celebrate yet,” I said. “There’s something about this that doesn’t sit right with me. I can’t explain what it is. I just now this isn’t done yet. Even if I don’t have any proof.”

Lone Archer gave me a long look. “As long as you keep protecting Lillian, you’ll be fine. You’ll make it through.”

“That’s what I’m worried about. If I don’t know what to expect, how can I protect her properly?”

“Just keep doing what you are doing,” Lone Archer said. “She’s stronger than she used to be. Trust in her. Trust in each other. Stick together and you’ll both make it through.”

I hoped he was right, but I couldn’t quash the lingering uncertainty within me.

Lillian was still in danger, I knew that, and that frustrated the hells out of me. I wanted her safe. I felt like I was failing her.

But without proof, without any leads, what could I do but wait?

Lillian’s POV

I stayed on the training grounds for most of the day, testing the limits of my strength. Reginald and I sparred, but he was taking it easy on me again. This was frustrating, so when he was gone, I pushed myself extra hard.

Only in the evening, when all of my muscles were sore and I was losing light, did I decide it was time to give up for the day. As soon as I stepped into the palace, a servant rushed toward me, worry on her face.

“Lillian. There you are! Terrible news. You have to get to the hospital right away!”

What’s going on?” I asked.

“It’s your brother,” the servant said. “He’s taken a turn for the worst.”

I rushed to the hospital as fast as I could, and went right to Ronan’s room. Three doctors were there and a slew of . nurses, all of them working to stabilize my brother.

One of the nurses, seeing me, pushed me back out into the hallway. “Please give the doctors room to work.”

“But my brother -”

“They are doing all they can.”

“The flower,” I said. “I found the flower and -”

“I’m sorry,” the nurse said. “It’s just not ready yet. The flower has to be turned into a tonic and that takes time.”

“But the flower…” I felt so helpless. I had done everything I could have possibly done for my brother and it still hadn’t been enough. What was I supposed to do now? How could I just stand back and watch everything fall apart. “Tell me what to do. Please. Anything. Just let me help.”
