Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 252

Chapter 252

Grayson and I walked the kids to tutoring, where Kyle awkwardly waved at me. Grayson ordered a guard to stand watch at the door.

Then, together, we walked down to find my father.

As part of his invitation and arrival, he was invited to a morning banquet held in the throne room. We went there now, and found him mingling with a few other members of court. Most court members were absent, choosing to skip this banquet, likely wanting to avoid the guest of honor.

Grayson might have invited Gamma back to the fold, but he remained disliked by most of the court. This brought me nothing but joy. My father deserved no acceptance, and those that were here were court members I was learning I couldn’t put faith in to do the right thing.

Grayson and I approached my father, just as another court member moved away from him.

“Ah. Prince Grayson, thank you so much for the invitation. And… daughter. What a surprise. You had disappeared so suddenly, I was concerned that you had died.”

“Not dead,” I told him. “I went to the Lycan Kingdom. I am a member of their pack now, and here as an Ambassador.”

His eyes narrowed slightly. “Ah. How nice.” The words were dry, making it clear he had no good feelings toward me. Well, that was mutual.

“I was surprised when I received your invitation, Prince Grayson, but maybe I shouldn’t have been. With the state of things, you must need all the help you can get.”.

“Yes,” Grayson said, telling his practiced lie, the one I had helped him to come up with. “The kingdoms on the brink of war, we need experienced voices in the court. Old hostilities can be overlooked for the good of the kingdom.”

Puffing up my father’s ego had always been a surefire way to make him less suspicious. This was no different. Even after being publically disgraced, he still thought the world of himself and liked when others did too.

“You are a good prince, a good heir,” Gamma said. “I hope that the council will see that sooner rather than later.”

Grayson hummed.

“I only have one question, father,” I said.

He looked at me with disdain. “What is it, girl?”

Grayson tensed, going rigid at the disrespect against me. I spoke quickly, to keep Grayson from reprimanding him and giving away our game.

“For the sake of moving on from the past, please tell me the truth of what happened to Ronan,” I said.

“There is no reason to bring that up,” Gamma said, looking at Grayson for backup. Grayson just glared at him in

return.

“If I knew the truth, I could let it go,” I said. “Please, father. Grant me this one kindness.”
