Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 286

Chapter 286

This time, there would be no more delays or interruptions. This time, she would be mine.

After too short of a time, we broke apart, and I started driving back to the mansion. We both seemed heated for a while, looking out the windows and not at each other.

Several long minutes later, Lily retrieved the necklace from her pocket and turned it over in her hands. She seemed certain that this simple pendant and chain had some kind of connection to Lone Archer. It wasn’t that didn’t believe her, it just seemed rather far-fetched.

That she was willing to give up her own mother’s necklace to gain this one spoke to her dedication, though. And if she was certain about this, then I had to be supportive, even if I didn’t fully understand. Both necklaces seemed like the same cool metal to me.

“Do you think…?” she started and then paused.

In an attempt to encourage her, I waited for her to continue, not saying a word.

After a moment, she did, “Do you think Teacher has the ability to project himself through dreams?”

I paused, thinking that over. “Has that been happening with you?”

“Yes,” she said. “At first, I thought it was my imagination, but then he told me he was a prisoner somewhere nearby. The dungeon never would have been able to contain him. Only something more magical could have stopped him…”

“You believe the necklace is related to that magic?”

“It feels like him, in a way,” she said. “But it also feels cold. Almost like it itself is the jail cell, but that can’t be.”

I wasn’t ready to dismiss that idea as soon. “The Lone Archer is a mysterious warrior of old. He’s ageless, as far as I can tell, and I believe that he hides his true power. The full range of his abilities, I’m just not sure of, and he doesn’t seem like the kind of person who should be able to exist in reality, and yet he does. Someone like that would almost need to be held with magical means, if he could be imprisoned at all.”

She looked at me. “You believe me…? About him. About all of this.”

“His existence makes magic possible,” I said. “Honestly, I’m just glad he’s on our side.”

She smiled a little, relieved, then looked back at the necklace. “This could be a prison. Or maybe a key? I don’t know.”
