Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 312

Chapter 312

Lilian’s POV

I would fight if I needed to, but I didn’t want to do it with Grayson right in the line of fire. He was utterly defenseless, unconscious from his fight with the Bear King, whose body was cooling not more than three feet

away.

Reginald placed his hand on my shoulder. “Drag Grayson behind us.”

Grabbing Grayson’s shoulders, I started to lift him to obey. As I did, a confident figure walked by me, heading toward the center of the battlefield. I stopped, surprised, when I realized it was Teacher. He walked like a man on a mission, each step deliberate, his stride long and proud.

As he moved to stand between the two armies, he allowed his true aura to reveal itself, slowly at first but growing and growing. His power felt immense, stifling. It stretched outwards in waves.

I shouldn’t have been surprised by his strength. He had already revealed to me that he had been one of the first Lycans, given his power directly by the Moon Goddess. But there was a difference between hearing it and feeling the abject, overwhelming strength of the first Lycan.

He commanded the attention of absolutely everyone. Wolves. Bears. All fell silent and considered him.

“The rules of the challenge will be honored,” he said. “Any that want to dispute that, can take it up with me.”

A moment’s tension passed. I held my breath, unsure what everyone would do. But then, with relief, people started going their own way. The bears turned around and disappeared into the forest, and the wolves relaxed. At least, most of them did.

One brave and foolish – soul spoke up, “We should chase them, take some of their territory for ourselves. With the Lone Archer’s power, nothing could stop us.

“That wasn’t the agreement,” Reginald snapped.

“Yeah, but -”

“No,” Teacher said. “The borders stay as they are.”

The rabble soon cooled themselves, with no one willing to stand against Teacher, who was still exuding his

massive aura.

Reginald moved closer to me, and some of his personal guard started to lift Grayson from my arms.

“I’ll stay with Grayson and return him to your tent,” Reginald said. “I know you want to go with him but maybe you should try to calm Lone Archer.”

I looked back at Teacher. He seemed generally calm, but his aura was still radiating off of him, like after so many years of confining it, he couldn’t seem to hide it anymore now that it had broken free.

“Thank you,” I told Reggie. I ran my hand gently across Grayson’s cheek, silently asking him to wait for me. I waited for Reggie and the others to start carrying him away. Then I turned and started walking toward Teacher.

He hadn’t moved from the center of the battlefield, standing directly over the borderline. He stared down at the line like he could see it physically, there in the dirt.

“Teacher?” I asked, making sure he heard me as I came closer, so he knew I wasn’t an enemy, but someone he trusted. His power was still so strong, it nearly suffocated me. It was hard to stand near him. I had to stop a few

feet off, unable to take another step.

He looked up at me, and I could see the way his eyes flashed, a rainbow of color, an infinity of lifetimes all passing in front of his eyes. He was looking at me, but I wasn’t sure he could actually see me.

“Teacher?” I said again.

He blinked, and suddenly, the hurricane of strength vanished like it had never been there at all. I stumbled forward, used to having to push against that strength.

A few more blinks and he looked at me like he was finally seeing me. “Sorry,” he said. “I got lost there for a minute.”

“Better now?” I asked.

“Yes,” he replied. He smiled a little, but made no motion to come closer.

“We should head back,” I said.

“I’m sorry, Lily, but I can’t go with you.”

“What? Why?”

“I’m a peacemaker only. I promised myself long ago that I’d never allow myself to be used for violence.”
