Seraphina rushed out of the teahouse, her heart racing as she sprinted toward Augustus.
“Hold on! I’ve already called for an ambulance,” she called out, her voice tight with urgency.
Augustus met her gaze, his mouth parting as though he wanted to speak. But before he could, a torrent of blood spilled from his lips.
“Were you going to say something? Was it about Rowan?” Seraphina asked, her voice trembling with worry.
Augustus blinked, struggling to draw in each breath.
“The settlement agreement… it’s real,” he rasped, his voice barely a whisper.
As the words left his lips, Seraphina’s eyes locked on his, noting how his gaze began to dull. A cold shiver swept through her.
“You can’t die yet. Your son needs you. If you die, I’ll tear up the settlement agreement,” she said, her tone steady, though her heart clenched.
Augustus‘ eyes widened, and with a trembling finger, he pointed toward the sky.
“What… what are you trying to tell me?” she asked, her voice laced with a mix of concern and confusion.
He attempted to speak once more, but blood clogged his throat, leaving him only able to emit broken, ragged sounds.
In an instant, his hand fell, lifeless, hitting the ground with a soft thud.
The onlookers around him stared in stunned silence. His eyes remained wide, unblinking, locked on the
heavens above.
“He’s not going to make it,” someone whispered, their voice barely audible.
“He hit his head, and there’s so much blood. There’s no way he can survive this. He’s probably already gone,” another voice said, grim and matter–of–fact.
“Don’t jump to conclusions. It could be shock!” a woman snapped, her tone sharp with disapproval.
“The truck driver who got out… smells like alcohol. Drunk driving, it really does kill people,” someone else commented, shaking their head.
“I couldn’t agree more,” another person murmured.
“The young woman… she must be his daughter. Watching her father die right in front of her… I can’t imagine what kind of trauma that’ll leave her with,” a bystander remarked softly, their voice filled with sympathy.

Seraphina placed her hand on his neck, feeling for a pulse, but there was nothing. No breath. He was gone.
Fifteen minutes later, the ambulance and police arrived. The driver of the truck was arrested, while Augustus body was taken away in the ambulance.
A nurse looked at Seraphina. “You must be a family member. You should come with us.”
“I’m not,” Seraphina replied coldly, turning to walk away.
The nurse called out after her, but she had already disappeared into the crowd.
At the Whitewood Residence, Chloe glanced down at her phone and read a message from Austin. After a brief moment, she deleted it without a second thought.
Linara approached her mother, her face bright with curiosity. “Mom, you seem so happy. Is something good happening?”
Chloe smiled warmly, though the happiness in her expression was more of a quiet contentment. “It’s nothing like that. I’m just thinking about how close you are to graduating. Have you decided where you want to go to college?”
Linara’s eyes sparkled with determination as she answered. “I’m thinking of seeing whether Theron plans to study abroad or stay here for school.”
Just then, Seraphina and Oberon entered the room. Linara turned to Seraphina with a friendly smile. “Seraphina, have you decided whether you want to go abroad or stay here for university?”
Linara had already made up her mind that if Seraphina chose to stay in the country, it would be the perfect chance to completely separate her from Theron.
“Domestic,” Seraphina replied calmly, her gaze lingering on Chloe for a moment. “On my way back just now, I saw someone who’d been hit by a car. The person looked a lot like Uncle Augustus.”
Linara’s expression faltered, her eyes wide with disbelief, while Oberon remained impassive, showing no reaction at all.
Chloe, however, smiled gently. “Uncle Augustus is perfectly fine. You must have mistaken someone else for
him.”
Seraphina’s eyes locked onto her, the weight of suspicion settling in her chest.
It was her. It had to be her who had ordered the hit.
The cold ruthlessness of it all pierced through her. To think that Chloe, in her composed and gentle manner, could so callously orchestrate her own brother’s death. Beneath that surface of politeness and obedience lay a heart capable of such cruelty.
The more Chloe tried to cover up her actions, the greater the secret must be.
Seraphina’s gaze flickered between Linara and Chloe, her mind turning over the possibilities. What was this
