The Alpha Slipped Inside The Wrong Sister novel Chapter 119

Evie’s pov

My wolf picked up her pace when we drew close to the infirmary. From here, I could hear the chaos, the whispers and the chatter.

Alex is just beside me, so close that I can feel the warmth of his fur brushing up against mine. I don’t pull away from him. I couldn’t. 2

Not when for some reason, after everything that was happening tonight, I felt….safe beside him.

‘They must’ve drank the silver because their pride wouldn’t allow them to be brought in chains,’ Serena huffed.

I didn’t feel much pity for the former Luna or alpha after everything they’ve done to me when I was here.

The doors to the infirmary were wide open as the warriors gathered outside in a tense circle, their voices overlapping in confusion and alarm. The moment they noticed us, they stepped back quickly and lower their heads.

I slowed my pace and so does Ryan. Shifting into my human form, Ryan does the same too and started walking forward, his massive form parting the crowd. I followed right behind him to the room where I could smell the stench of silver all the way from here.

The second we entered we saw the two council men in the room talking to Gavin and Lisa. Behind them I spot the two former leaders of the Silver Blood pack.

Stephie was slumped against the side of the bed, her head tilted unnaturally, her hand hanging limply off the mattress. Ryker lay on the bed beside her, his form very still. The smell of silver was pungent in the air. Even the scent of death was very strong.

One had died already. The other…so close to it too.

Gavin and the others noticed our presence and Gavin pulls away from the group to strut over but the second my eyes fall on him, anger soon takes over. With a snarl, I throw my hand back and then slam my fist across his face.

The crunch of his jawline snapping made me feel satisfied.

“Evie!” Lisa yelled as she rushed over to push me back but Ryan let out a loud growl in warning. Her eyes widen and she stumbles back a step. Ryan grabs my arm and tugs me gently to him protectively.

Gavin throws a hand protectively in front of Lisa. “It’s okay Lisa.”

He cups his jaw, head turnt to the side as he glared at the floor. “I deserved that.”

I nod, seething as I shoot daggers at him using my eyes. “You deserve far worse for telling him about Atlas! How could you!?”

“His name, you named him,” Ryan stumbles over his words. “Is Atlas?” Ryan’s grip on my arm tightened. It wasn’t painful, but firm enough to grab my attention. His eyes were locked onto me, wide with awe.

“Atlas….” he repeated, like he was testing the name on his tongue. “Our son…his name is Atlas?”

I looked away briefly, my eyes catching the sight of the floor before I breathed out a sigh. “Yes.”

Long ago, when we were just children and playing on the field, Ryan once mentioned if he were to have a firstborn son, he’d name him Atlas. The name had been a favorite of his because his favorite anime character was named Atlas.

The memory slipped out before I could stop it and I bit my tongue until I tasted copper.

“You remembered….” he whispered, eyes misting as he looked at me tenderly. Fuck. Why would he look at me like that?

‘Because he’s been telling you the truth Evie, he still cares for you,’ Serena whispered. ‘I think we should give him another chance at hearing what he has to say.’

‘I will listen to him,’ I replied. ‘But I won’t forgive him.’

I clenched my jaw, instantly regretting saying the name loud. “That doesn’t mean anything,” I said quickly, trying to shut it down before it turned into something more. “It was just a name.”

But even I didn’t believe myself. It hadn’t been just a name to him and Ryan didn’t seem to believe in my words, either. However, instead of calling me out on my bullshit, he gives me a nod and a small smile that told me we were not done with this conversation yet.

“Are you four done? There are more pressing matters to attend to,” one of the council men said to draw our attention to them. Well the more pressing matters. Stephie and Ryker.

He grabs the hospital sheet and flies it over for me to catch. I caught it and wrapped it around my naked frame.

The other man walks to the bathroom and comes back out with a towel in his hand. He flings it over to Ryan who wraps the towel around his waist.

I try to not let my eyes linger on the way his muscles flexed as he holds the towel with one hand. As if sensing my gaze on him, Ryan eyes flicker to mine. Catching me in the act, the corner of his lip twitch slightly.

Gavin curses, groaning as he rubs his jaw, breaking me from the trance Ryan almost captured me in. “I forgot how good you can throw a fucking punch Evie.”

My eyes narrowed in his face. “Don’t tempt me to throw another.”

The corner of his mouth was stained with his blood as it dripped. He wipes it with the back of his hand and his eyes meet mine. He smirked. “I probably deserve another but let’s leave it for later,” he nudged his head behind him at the two former leaders.

Stephie was the only one still clinging to the little life she had left but she was so close to death. The stench of it clung to hear so pungently.

“They had already drank the silver poison before we got here,” one of the council men uttered as he looked over the bodies. “It’s far too late to save them. The poison has already spread through their bloodstream,” The council man finished grimly. “There is nothing we can do now.”

Ryan nods and struts forward, he stops beside his parents and looks down at their bodies. “They deserved a far more painful death and I should’ve been here,” his eyes glared down at his father. “To see him take in his last breath.”

“From what we noticed there was no foul play here,” the other council man utters as he walks over to Ryan and stands beside him. He eyes the former Luna and alpha with disappointment. “They willingly drank the poison.”

“They wanted a quick death,’ Serena hummed.

Ryan looks over at Gavin. “What about Margaret’s body? Did you find out who had done it?”

Gavin nods, still rubbing his jawline with his thumb and index finger. “Well we know for certain it hadn’t been Evie’s doing. Her scent is nowhere near Margaret’s body. However, Kimberly’s scent is all over her. Especially on her tongue and neck.”

I wasn’t surprised. I had a feeling it had been her. She was the only one who was cold enough to do such a thing. “What kind of daughter would kill her mother by ripping out her tongue?” Ryan mumbled in disbelief.

“Kimberly,” I stepped forward and examined Stephie and Ryker. “I’m not surprised, she’s always been a murderer.”
