Stephie’s pov
“Are you sure this won’t be traced back to me?” Arielle asked with fear swirling in her voice. I looked at her in frustration and grabbed the small bottles from her hands.
“Just give me the damn thing and be on your way,” I snapped at her. Her eyes were filled with panic as they flickered down to the bottles now in my grasp.
The bottles were filled with silver poison, meant to kill any wolf in minutes once ingested.
“Former Luna Stephie,” Arielle whispered, taking a step back as she shook her head in disapproval. “If anyone finds out I helped you-”
Her voice was beginning to irritate me. “No one is going to find out,” I cut in sharply, glaring at her. If she keeps yapping, then someone will find out. She talks too much.
“You did your part Arielle,” I nod at her thankfully. “Now you can leave,”
Her eyes still swam of panic and seemed unsure. “Are you sure you’re not going to ingest it? It’s not meant to be ingested.”
I reftain from rolling my eyes. For a pack doctor she wasn’t very smart. “No,” I lied smoothly. “It’s not for me. But you don’t need to know who it’s for.” 1
She gives me a worried glance over and chews on her lip. “Former-
“Go Arielle,” I gritted, cutting into her words. She finally leaves the little storage room we had been in and closes the door
behind her.
I lifted the bottles to my eye level and stared at the liquid inside. I had to act quickly. Arielle overheard some of the warriors talking about the council men coming over to take Ryker and me into custody for our crimes against the sacred bond and going against their laws.
I would rather die here than die outside of my pack.
I tucked the bottles in my coat and stepped out of the small room. Everyone was thankfully more occupied with the news of Margaret’s death and Kimberly’s escape to notice anything concerning me.
I quickly moved through the corridor and opened the door to Ryker’s hospital room. The second I closed the door, I locked it.
There he was. My mate and the man I tried to please for years.
He was sleeping away, completely oblivious to the chaos happening outside and around us. For a moment, I wished I were him. Sleeping away with no troubles in my head.
I move closer, my fingers digging into my coat to grab the bottles. My fingers tremble.
I knew this day would come, the second all our efforts to follow the prophecy failed.
If only we had known……we paid attention to the wrong sister. It had been Evie all along. If only we had known then……
Things would’ve been different. The pack….would’ve been different.
We would’ve been different.
My throat tightened as I stared at Ryker. If he had not been so hard headed. If only I had a head on my shoulder and had thought for myself.
I shook my head and reached for his face, my fingers skimming across his skin. He loved his son. We both loved Ryan and that’s why we had done what we thought was right.

“Oh Ryker,” I sighed in guilt and pain. Guilt that we had done all this to be wrong and pain because we lost our son in the
process.
Ryker stirred slightly, as if sensing me beside him.
“Stephie….” he murmured, voice still filled with sleep. His voice sounds so weak.
A sharp pain slices through my heart. I had to do this quickly.
“Shh,” I whispered. “I’m right here my love.”
My hand moved quickly before I decided against it. I pulled one bottle free and uncorked it and the smell hit immediately. Rancid and metallic.
My wolf recoiled.
I draw the opening of the bottle to his lips and watch his glassy tired eyes stare at me confused. It was clear he was still somehow between sleep and consciousness.
“Please don’t fight it Ryker,” I said quietly as I tipped the bottle to his lips and let the silver liquid tingle close to his slightly parted mouth. “Please,” my eyes mist with tears as I watch his lips part more unconsciously.
He trusted me even though his body was tensed.
The second the bitterness touched his tongue, his eyes widen and realization hits him. His fingers twitched against the sheets.” Stephie….” he rasped again, barely audible now.
“Why?” He croaked out as the liquid spill in his mouth.
“They’re here Ryker,” I whispered. “The council. They’re here for us and plan to bring us back as prisoners. You know how it will end for us Ryker. We’ve broken to many laws. This is the end for us.”
His eyes glistened and they flickered to the door. “Rya-
“He hates us,” I said brokenly. “I don’t think he’ll ever forgive us for causing his and the pack’s downfall.”
His body tensed beneath my touch, a weak attempt to pull away but he didn’t have the strength to achieve it. At least not
anymore.
“Stephie….st-op….” he tried again but the words were slurred and broken. A clear indicator that the poison was already working through him.
I shook my head, my vision blurring as tears finally slipped free. “There’s nothing left to stop, Ryker,” I whispered. “It’s over tor us,” The last of the silver slipped past his lips and I watched him.
For a moment, I thought he’d spit it out but he instead swallowed it, eyes closing for a brief second.
I leaned down and pressed my forehead to his. “I won’t let them take us like that,” I whispered.
“I love you,” He croaked out, his grip tightening weakly and then started to loosen. Time was running out. I straightened, pulling the second bottle from my coat and opening it. The smell hit me instantly and made my nose twitch.
“I love you too Ryker,” I said softly before I lifted the bottle to my mouth and drank. The liquid goes down my throat like acid and I pressed my lips together tightly in fear I’d spit it out.
