Evie’s pov

His eyes searched mine like he was trying to make sure I wouldn’t take back my words. Did he really think I would do that?

‘You did keep Atlas from him,’ Serena points out. ‘ He won’t trust your word too Evie.’

Serena’s words made something heavy settle in my stomach because I knew she was right. Ryan wouldn’t trust my words.

1 tear my eyes away and look down at the towel around me.” It’s late and I have to train the warriors tomorrow. I uh-I should head to bed.”

I hear him awkwardly scratch the back of his head and clear his throat. “Yeah, I uh-should be heading to bed too.”

I looked up at him because I couldn’t resist. He’s staring at me warmly but there’s something else flickering in his eyes. He looked like he wanted to say more. Like there were thousands of things sitting on the tip of his tongue to let out but he kept them down.

With a small smile, fingers twitching to hold me again but stops himself, Ryan utters gently. “Goodnight Evie.”

“Goodnight Ryan,” I replied just as softly and feel the shift in the air. Things were changing between us and the second Atlas get’s here, everything would never be the same again.

I watch him turn around to leave reluctantly. A part of me tingles to tell him to stay, to stay with me. But I bit my tongue hard

instead.

He paused at the door as if he too knew what I was thinking. My fingers curled tighter into the towel as my heart thudded painfully against my ribs.

‘Say it,’ Serena recklessly whispered to me. “Tell him to stay. You know you want to.’

‘I…can’t,’ I whispered.

Not when everything was so fragile now between us. One wrong move and things may crash. Telling him to stay would be

reckless.

Thankfully, Ryan didn’t turn back and reluctantly opened the door. He steps out sluggishly as if he was waiting for me to say something. When I don’t, he closes the door behind him with a soft click.

I could still sense him behind the door, still smell him, still hear his beating heart. He stayed there for a good minute before finally walking away. It was for the best, I kept repeating in my head until I fell asleep that night.

Morning had come early and the sunrise was just beginning to crack through the horizon, the soft golden hue bleeding into the dark sky.

I was already awake; however, I hadn’t slept much anyway. My body had rested a little but my mind had been racing all night, swirling around the same thoughts over and over again.

Atlas and Ryan. Meeting today.

Had I pushed their meeting too early? I hadn’t prepared Atlas.

My heart squeezed.

I had just missed him so much that I didn’t think things through. I wanted him here with me.

I sighed and got off my bed, running my hands through my hair. I had mind linked Quincy about what had happened last night before I went to bed. She was shocked at first but said it would’ve eventually happen.

She told me I couldn’t keep them apart forever. That Atlas deserved to know and that Ryan deserved the chance to meet his son. He was right.

They were to reach here by lunchtime. My heart pounds for two different reasons. Finally getting to see my son again and him meeting his dad for the first time.

I swallowed and let out a weird sound from my throat before heading to the shower and getting ready to train the warriors.

On the field, Lisa and the others are already waiting. The second she sees me, she smirks. “Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up.”

The rest chuckled. I scan them and see that Gavin is missing. He must be trying to be cautious after last night. I bite the inside of my cheek. He deserved more than a punch.

“Took you long enough, Evie,” One of the Midnight Ridge pack warriors called out. “We were starting to think you wouldn’t

come.”

I shot him a fake glare and he lifted his hands up in mock surrender. I turn to Lisa. “Why hadn’t you started them on what we spoke about last night?”

She looked around and I noticed how the Silver blood wolves didn’t look quite willing to participate. Their expressions were grim and angry.

“They wouldn’t listen,” she said, annoyance swirling in her tone as she glares at them. They return her heated stare head on.

My eyebrow raised. They were rather angry this early morning. Not whiny but angry.

My gaze hardened slightly as I stepped forward, folding my arms across my chest. “Is there a reason why my orders weren’t followed?”

Silence settled over everyone until one brave warrior from the silver blood pack decided today would be the day he was courageous. “We don’t take orders from you,” he lets out a dry chuckle that I didn’t quite find amusing.

Lisa shifted beside me, her eyes narrowing. “Watch your tone when speaking to her,” she warns them.

I lifted my hand up for her, silently telling her it was okay and I could handle it. Still, she doesn’t move away from my side.” Seems like you have a lot to say on your chest, scrawny.” I raised a brow, scanning my eyes over his small frame. 2

His face flushed red from both embarrassment and anger. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to not laugh at him.

“You walk here like nothing happened,” he said, voice carrying across the field angrily. A few murmurs of agreement rippled through the Silver Blood warriors and another stepped forward. “Do you think we forgot what you caused?”

What I caused?

“What have I caused?” I voiced out my confusion, now intrigued to know what I had done.

His eyes flashed. “Our Luna is gone because of you.”
