Ryan’s pov
* hours before the rejection*

“You will not cause a scene here,” father speaks in a clipped tone. “Go home and wait for me.”
I looked away from Evie’s window reluctantly, my jaw clench so hard I can feel the pulse in my neck throb. “I need to go to her,” I snarl under my breath. “I need her.”
His eyes glowed red. His wolf is right at the surface. He was angry, frustrated and quite frankly look like he was about to wrap his fingers around my neck and twist it. “Son. You know why you can’t. Go home now,” he presses, his alpha tone swirling through his tone.
A growl begins to tremble up my chest as my wolf grows restless at the command and not being able to go to our mate. Not being able to go to Evie.
My chest tightens painfully. Being pulled away from Evie feels like my skin is being ripped off.
Father takes a step forward and his eyes narrowed. “Go home. Don’t cause a scene. Not in front of the pack,”
I flicked my eyes around and noticed that everyone gaze was on me. They looked worried and scared. He was right. Not in front of the pack.
“Are you leaving baby?” Kimberly sickly sweet voice pulls me out of my daze only for my jaw to tick with irritation.
Ignoring her I look at father, my beast still burning with rage. “Fine. I will leave,” I growl and turn around to leave. I had no choice but to. I couldn’t cause a scene here. Not in front of the pack.
So I leave. Even if it’s so hard to. I leave.
For now.
“I can’t believe you caused such a scene on your mate’s birthday!” Father roars as he slams his palm on the wooden oak desk before him.
“Your father is right son,” mother says, shaking her head in disapproval. “Tonight was supposed to be special for her. You’re even to mark her tonight to seal the bond.”
We are now back home in his office with me pacing a storm. My wolf was restless as we are far from Evie, Our true
mate.
“You ignored her the entire night and went to find that stupid girl we have warned you about to stay away from!” Father hissed. “You came out of the woods storming like some kind of wild animal and staring at her window like an obsessed-
“Because she’s my mate!” I snarled, turning to glare at him.” Evie is my mate! The goddess fated her to me and even my wolf chose her. Do you expect me to just stand beside Kimberly like nothing is wrong?”
My parents flinch as if I had physically slapped them across their faces. Silence snaps through the room for a moment before Father speaks up. This time, less aggressive. “Your wolf must’ve gotten it wrong. There’s no way she can be fated to you. What you feel is…….complicated.”
“No!” I barked, my wolf growing more vicious the more we hear their words, “What’s complicated is this lie you

expect me to live.”
Mother stiffens and her gaze turns icy cold. “Evie cannot be your Luna.”
My heartbeat stutters in my chest. “And why the hell not?! Say it!”
“She’s wolfless! She has no wolf! She is the weakest female in the pack!” Mother yelled, “Do you forget what the seer saw in her vision?! You must mate with the strongest female wolf in the pack or else your not only doom the pack but you doom us all. Her included! Do you want that!?”
Every syllable feels like poison being spit at Evie and my wolf loses his mind. A deep growl tears out of me and even causes the windows to vibrate. “Watch your mouth when you speak about her,” I snarl, my eyes burning red. “Don’t talk about her like she’s some kind of weakling. Not when she has more heart than anyone in this pack and you know it!”
Mother recoils back but only for a second before her jaw hardens once more.” You think you can intimidate me with that wolf of yours?” she snaps. “I am your mother Ryan. And right now you’re acting like a reckless child.”
“No,” I bite out angrily. “I’m acting like a mate protecting what’s his.”
Father steps between us, voice heavy and commanding. “Enough!”
But my wolf is already too far gone, pacing beneath my skin, snapping, furious……. Mother folds her arms and raise an eyebrow cockily. “The seer said your mate must be the strongest female wolf in the pack. Kimberly is the strongest and you know it.”
“Maybe the goddess disagreed,” I growl, glaring at her furiously.
“She cannot disagree with fate,” she throws back as if her words made any sense at all. I know what the seer prophesied. I know what can befall the pack if I make the wrong choice but the moon goddess would never make a wrong choice.
“She made the fate,” I snarl.
Mother’s lips curl into a sneer. “The prophecy is clear. If you mark the wrong female, destruction follows. The fall of the pack. Bloodshed. Loss. Our enemies will tear us apart. Your mate must be powerful enough to stand beside you when you become Alpha,” she strains on your, her eyes fierce.” Kimberly will be ready to stand beside you when that time comes. She’s the only one who can.”
My jaw flexes so hard I feel something crack. Kimberly. Damn Kimberly.
My wolf snarls at the name, a violent loud sound that ripples through my entire body. He hates it. Hates her. Hates the idea of anyone standing beside us who isn’t Evie. Our Evie.
“She’s the only one who can,” Mother repeats, voice trembling with certainty.
I laugh. It comes out low, dark and humorless. “The only one who can?” I repeat slowly. “Kimberly can barely control her temper, let alone her wolf. You want her as Luna because she’s strong? A Luna needs brains, compassion, loyalty, qualities Evie has even without a damn wolf.”
Mother’s nostrils flare. “A Luna needs power.”
“And Evie has a different kind of power,” I snap back. “One you refuse to see because you’re too busy worshiping that prophecy like it’s scripture.”
Father steps forward, his jaw rigid and face stone. “Do not talk to your mother like that.”
