What becomes of us now?’ I asked Serena as I remember that Gavin had not promised us forever protection and that at any moment he could decide to kill us. Even though his sister Quincy seemed quite nice, she was still a stranger and I couldn’t trust her fully.
‘We wait it out,’ Serena replied. ‘We can’t make any rash decisions. There are many of them and one of us.’
The second she say those words a sharp knock sounds at the door. The sound moves through the room, startling
My heart stutters.
Who was it? Was it Gavin or Quincy?
‘Relax, being scared would only make us look weak,’ Serena utters.
She was right. I took in another drag of air into my lungs to calm myself down before saying.” C-come in,”
The door opens and my breath catches. It’s not Gavin or Quincy. It’s him. The guy who brought me over to Gavin.
He steps inside, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, eyes locking onto me with an intensity that makes my skin prickle in alert. His presence alone is enough to make my spine stiffen.
I straighten on the bed, my form skittish. Having him here, alone……isn’t quite calming.
“Good,” he says flatly. “You’re finally awake.”
Before I can say anything he tosses a bundle of clothes onto the bed. They land near my knees, black fabric spilling on the sheets,
My brows furrow as I stare at them, then back at him, utterly confused. “What-
“The alpha wants you outside now,” he cuts in, voice sharp and clipped. “Get dressed quickly.”
My stomach twists violently. The alpha wants me outside?
Now?
My fingers grip the material, trembling slightly as I ponder on what exactly Gavin had up his sleeve. Just as my thoughts create a rampage in my head, another famillar voice drifts close.
“Jonah, I hope you’re not scaring our poor guest with your brooding ass.” Quincy huffs from outside, really close.
Jonah stiffens, turning slightly to look at the door but keeping me in sight as if he were scared I’d somehow
escape if gives the chance. He clearly didn’t trust me.

Quincy steps into the room without waiting for a reply. Her presence alone immediately shifts the air, I nearly sigh in relief. She takes one look at Jonah standing rigid by the door, then at me sitting stiffly on the bed with my hands clenched in the sheets and she rolls her eyes.
“Acting all tough,” she says dryly. “Relax your tits once in a while Jonah. No need to scare people.”
Jonah’s eyes narrowed on hers and Quincy sends me a wink. “Don’t mind him Evie, he always has a stick far up his
ass
“Quincy,” Jonah warns.
Quincy giggles and slaps him on his shoulder. He glares at her but it’s not as cold as how he glares at me. There’s a warmth there and something else.
“Relax I’m just kidding. Why are you here anyway?” Quincy questions.
“Not that it’s any of your concern but,” Jonah huffs with irritation. “The alpha asked for her to join us outside.”
Quincy’s brow furrowed as she moves towards me. “Training ground?” Her voice is one of confusion. “What for?”
Jonah shrugs, jaw tight.” He didn’t say. Just said he wants her out there. Now.”
My pulse pounds harder as anxiety rolls through me. What could Gavin possibly call me for at the training ground?
Serena hums quietly in the back of my mind. ‘Relax. You’re making it obvious you’re scared.’
Quincy throws her hands on her waist and scolds Jonah.” My brother couldn’t even let the girl eat breakfast at least before calling her out?” She glances at the biscuit crumbs on the bed, then back at Jonah. “I’ll feel sorry for your mates if that’s the way you men treat women.”
Jonah ignores her, eyes snapping back to me. “Get dressed. We’re not waiting.”
I swallow and nod, forcing my fingers to move even though they feel stiff as I grip the materials. “Can I-
My voice wobbles and I hate that it does. I clear my throat and try again. This time it comes out more firm and sure. “Can I have a minute?”
His gaze flicks to Quincy, then back to me. “Just a minute. We’ve wasted enough time as it is already.”
Quincy plants herself firmly between us, hands on her hips as she stares up at a very intimidating Jonah. “Don’t let me tell Kwan you were the one who ate his last box of chocolate chip cookies. Get out and give us a minute.”
His lips thin but he turns around and heads out the door anyway.
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. Quincy gives me a soft smile. “I’m sorry about him. He’s just,” she sighs and rolls her eyes. “I’m the only one who he lets talk to him like that and well my brother,” she giggles and I smile.
