Ryan’s pov

‘Evie?’ I questioned him confused,

But then the woman whips around and her shocked expression turns into a hard glare. And I’ve never been more turned on in my life. Fuck.

‘I don’t know. The name just came to me.’ He utters, just as confused as I am.

“What the hell are you doing here!?” She snarls, face vexed as she swims closer to the bank.

Evie’s pov

Why was he here?

Swimming closer to the bank, I freeze when I realize I was in nothing but my bra and panty. Both that are obviously so wet. I stop and settle to glare at Ryan whose face had been painted with a mixture of shock and…. yearning?

No. I might’ve read his expression wrong. There was no way he looked at me like that.

Still, the way his eyes lingered on my lips when I snapped at him made heat crawl up my neck and settle on my cheeks. Thankfully, the water was cold enough to fight against my flush.

I quickly sink a little deeper into the water, the cold surface climbing to my shoulders as I cross my arms over my chest. It’s not like he hadn’t seen everything once….

But that was when he remembered and when I thought he cared.

The memory makes my face go hard.

Ryan notices my growing irritation and the asshole lips tilt into a smirk. I grit my teeth.

“This is my territory last I checked,” he tilted his head as he studied me. “I should be the one asking you that question.” He raised a brow, eyes flashing with amusement.

I bite the inside of my cheek. God, I want to wipe that smug smirk right off his face. The way he stood there like he owned the damn forest. Technically, he did, well this part of the forest. His eyes dragged over my frame slowly.

Serena stirred anxiously in my mind. ‘He’s staring at us.’

‘I noticed,’ I utter.

My arms tightened across my chest as I sank a little deeper into the cold water. The chill bit into my skin, but it was better than letting him see how flustered I was getting.

Ryan’s eyes flicked down to the waterline where it covered me. Then back up to my face. His stare causes goosebumps to dot across my skin wildly.

“You’re here alone,” he tilts his head and flickers his eyes everywhere then brings his attention back to me. “How did you get this place and why are you out alone without anyone?”

His question irked me because why does he have an edge of worry in his tone? Why does he care?

Without thinking, I rise from the water and began to walk to the shore. “I will let you know I am the head warrior of Moonlight Ridge for a reason. I can do as I please without someone to guard me,” I sneered and waited for him to be angry with my tone but his lips just twitched.

“I couldn’t sleep, so I went for a run,” I continued to snarl angrily, “I stumble here during my late night run-

“You seem to have hate towards me……Evie.”

I froze up. I hadn’t had the chance to tell him my name and earlier when Gavin tried to introduce us, Stephie had stopped him. How did he…..

Perhaps someone in the pack told him. I shouldn’t think too much about it.

“I see someone told you my name,” I said bitterly and watch his eyes widen for the first time since he came here in raw surprise.

“So your name is Evie……” He drawls in shock. Why is he stunned? He was confusing.

I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the water, completely not caring now that I was in my bra and panties that were obviously soaked and clinging to me.

Ryan’s eyes, their scan my figure, lingering on my exposed skin. Despite the shivers that raced down my spine, I snarl low. “Enjoying the view?”

His lips twitch and he doesn’t even look ashamed to be caught. ” Extremely.”

I took in a sharp inhale, my nipples beading against the fabric of my bra. I pretend it’s from the cold, a lie I tell to myself inwardly.

‘Liar,’ Serena teased.

‘We are not supposed to admit we are turned on by a man who rejected us, mated another and married her,’ I snapped back, growing angry.

She slips back into the back of my mind.

“I don’t expect anything else from you alpha Ryan,” I snarl, ripping my eyes away from his to walk to the stone I had set my dry clothes in earlier.

I hear footsteps behind me. “Why are you so aggressively angry towards me? Have I done anything to you in the past?” Ryan questions behind me, his tone more intrigued than accusing.

I gripped my shirt and whip to him angrily. “Let’s keep this professional and stop conversing with each other. Especially with matters not concerning training-

I gasp when he suddenly grips my arm and tugs me to him. My chest smacked against his broad chest hard and I forgot how to breathe.

Breathe Evie.

“What were we?” He hisses, eyes searching mine. “Were we lovers in the past? What had I done to you to deserve this kind of hostility?”
