Evie’s pov

For a moment, I am too stunned to even speak, staring at him like I have finally lost the ability to utter a word. His eyes are intense, connecting to mine deep, searching for answers.

His face was so close I could feel the warmth of him brushing against my cold skin. His breath fanned across my lips and it sent a shiver dancing straight down my spine. His grip on my arm wasn’t painful at all but it was firm enough that I knew I wasn’t going anywhere unless he let me.

And the worst part?

My stupid body was reacting exactly the way he said it was. Like it knew his touch. My heart pounds in my chest and I knew he could hear it.

‘He’s so close,’ Serena pants.

Ryan’s eyes searched mine as if he was trying to read me like an open book. That irked me. I didn’t want him to read me. Not with how things had ended with us.

Anger surged inside me as a brief flicker of that memory of that night rush through my mind. I yanked my arm free from his grip and shoot him a glare. He looks taken aback. Good.

“You’re so full of yourself.” I snapped, throwing my shirt over damp body and then grabbing my shorts. I pull them up quickly, still glaring at Ryan.

How dare he show up here? How dare he breathe out my name. How dare he touch me!?

“Don’t ever touch me again without my permission!” I snarled as I button the pants.

Ryan doesn’t move but his eyes lose the shock in them and is replaced with mild amusement. “You’re avoiding the question.”

I stiffen and just stare at him for a moment. Does he really not remember anything? “You really don’t remember do you?” The words rolled off my tongue before I could stop them.

“So we were familiar then.” Ryan’s lips twitch as if he was finally relieved I said something.

I rolled my eyes and side step him to walk away. He follows me. “I never said that.”

“Lovers?” He questioned. “I bet we were-

I whirl around and barked. “I never said that either! Stop fucking questioning me.”

His brows furrowed. “I just want answers Evie. It’s clear we were somewhat acquainted.”

My eyes narrowed as I grow irritated. I stomped towards him, seething. “You want to know the truth alpha Ryan?” I stopped right in front of him.

Ryan doesn’t move or flinch, his eyes stayed locked on me. “Yes.”

The calm in his voice only makes my irritation grow. “We were nothing! We hated each other. I had no wolf and was the damn runt in this pack and you treated me like trash along with everyone else,” I take a step forward again until we were so close I can feel his warmth.

“So forgive me if I still hold that resentment towards you,” I sneer low. He looks at me startled as if he was not expecting those words. He wanted the truth but I didn’t care to give it to him.

“Now, if you don’t mind me,” I take a step back. “Training is at dawn and I need my beauty sleep.”

I turn around and begin to walk away as his eyes pierce through my back. “Evie,” he calls out when I am a little farther away from him.

I don’t stop but I do slow down as he grasps my attention. My fingers curl slightly at my sides as I wait for whatever else he has to say. “I will find out the truth eventually.”

I bit my tongue hard, my hands turning into fists before I sigh and relax. “Goodnight, Alpha Ryan.” With those final words, I walk back to the pack house. This time I entered through the back door, not bothering to climb up to

my room.

I was hungry and thankfully, Ryan didn’t follow after me. I didn’t want to be in his presence any longer than necessary. He was causing feelings I tried my hardest to bury to emerge once more.

Damn him.

I should loathe him so much. Why can’t I hate him? 1

I made my way to the kitchen and opened the fridge to grab an apple. Surely as guests, they’d allow us to eat an apple? Alpha Ryan did tell us to help ourselves to anything we want in the fridge.

Closing the fridge, I am not startled to see Kimberly standing there in her sultry red nightgown. I had sensed her the second she came downstairs. Her floral scent was that suffocating.

I bit into the apple and turned to her boredly. I chewed obnoxiously loud. “Luna Kimberly,” I mocked and watched her fold her arms across her chest and glower at me with hatred.
