Evie’s pov
Thankfully, the incoming rushing footsteps of the silver blood warriors save me from responding to him. The sound of their boots hitting the damp earth pulled everyone out of the tension, giving me a moment to pull myself together.
I shot Ryan a glare and he looked amused. Arrogant fool.
‘Last night?’ Gavin mind links me, his voice clearly strained and confused. ‘What is he talking about?’
‘It was nothing,’ I replied quickly.
‘Doesn’t sound like nothing Evie,’ Gavin pushed. ‘You’re my head warrior, I need to know what’s going on with you.’
I sighed. He was right. I couldn’t keep this away from him and risk him not trusting me anymore. I couldn’t make him think I was hiding anything.
‘I couldn’t sleep last night so I went for a late night run,’ I mind link Gavin but my eyes strayed to Ryan.

He has yet to remove his eyes off me. My breathing stagger and I rip my gaze away. ‘I stumbled and Ryan happened to arrive there too. We had a conversation. It wasn’t anything of use or serious.’

‘Is that all?’ He questions.
I shifted on my feet, keeping my posture composed. “Yes. That’s all,” I replied quickly, forcing my mind to stay focused on the training field and not the pull in my chest whenever Ryan’s gaze moved my way.
Thankfully, Gavin doesn’t push any more but I knew he wouldn’t drop it completely.
The silver blood warriors stop before me, their eyes tired and weary. One even had the nerve to yawn loudly and nearly fell asleep standing up.
I raised a brow. What a bunch of jokes.
“I thought I said to be here at 5:30 a.m sharp? Not a second later than that? But you all are three minutes late.” I hissed at them, my eyes scanning around.
“It’s three minutes lady. Calm down.” One of the males snorted and his words made the rest laugh. There are about forty of them. But some were missing.
My brow arches up and I take a menacing step forward. He freezes and the laughter dies down instantly. “Two hundred push ups. NOW!” I snapped.
His eyes widen. “What, but I-
“Five hundred,” I said dryly as I cut him off. “Keep talking and I’ll make it turn to eight hundred.”
His eyes looked like they were ready to pop out of his skull. He quickly drops to the ground to do the push ups. The rest of his friends look around each other nervously.
I smirked. “Anyone else want to say something? Perhaps something we can all laugh at?”
They quickly shook their heads no. “Good. That’s what I thought.” My voice carried into the morning air sharply. ” Form a line. NOW!”

The warriors scrambled into formation, their boots crunching against the damp earth as the fog swirled around us. Some of them muttered under their breath but they never dared look me in the eyes and say it loud enough.
I took a slow step down the line, letting my gaze sweep over each of them. Their stance was weak and some looked ready to collapse. “I must say, some of your warriors are rather scrawny, Alpha Ryan.”
I don’t turn to stare at Ryan but he was already looking at me. He hadn’t interfered when I commanded his warriors. He was just observing me and though it made me tingle in a way I was too ashamed to admit, I kept my cool.
“You know what,” I said out loud. “I think all of you need to do five hundred push ups-
As their protest brushes through the air I raise my hand. “Uh uh uh, don’t let me put it to a thousand.” I threatened them and they quickly drop to the ground, scrambling for position.
“Good,” I said, pacing slowly along the line. My boots sink slightly into the soft, damp earth with each step. It had rained in the early mornings. I knew so because I still couldn’t sleep after that run.
I kneel slightly to inspect the form of one of the warriors struggling near the end. His arms shake violently under his own weight, sweat dripping into his eyes. He was barely on push up twenty five. Weak.
I whack sharply on his shoulder with the edge of my boot.”Push harder, put your elbows in. Chest to the ground. Come on!” I bark.
He flinches, however, he obeys, gritting his teeth. His muscles quiver and I shake my head. Had Javon even bothered to train them? I straighten and then walk to the first boy who had the nerve to respond to me.
He was struggling too. Perhaps even more than the others. He was now on thirty push ups. I raised my boot and put it on his back, adding my weight slightly. “Come on boy, it’s only five hundred push ups.” I taunt. The boy groans, his arms trembling. I smirk.
