Ryan’s pov

“Do you love to embarrass me in front of that whore!?” Kimberly snarls the second I step into my room. I spare her a bored glance and strut to my bed. I had no patience to deal with her tonight. “Is this some kind of kink Ryan?

L

” Kimberly,” I grumble. “I thought we agreed to sleep in our own rooms tonight. I have no energy to play the pretense of a happy couple. Go to your room.’

But she’s angry, seething. “You went out there. I know you were with her Ryan! If someone caught you with an unmated whore, especially the head warrior of the Midnight Ridge pack, what do you think they’d say?!”

I cut her off with a tired sigh and drag a hand down my face. “Can this conversation not wait till morning?”

“Oh now you want to wait to have a conversation!?” She snaps, pointing an angry finger at me.” But you had all the energy to converse with the bitch-

“Watch your tone!” I snarl, my patience finally snapping. She flinches away, her eyes wide with surprise.” Here you go defending her like she was your mate and I wasn’t-

“Isn’t that what she told you tonight?” I cut in dryly but my eyes stay intently on her, gauging for her reaction. ” That she was my true mate.”

Kimberly stilled, her entire body going rigid. For a second the rage on her face vanished and is replaced by something else…shock.

But as soon as it appeared it hardened into fury.”You heard that?” she demanded.

“I heard enough,” I replied calmly, my brow raising. She was furious I heard.

Her jaw tightened. “That crazy bitch was trying to provoke me. It’s always been like that with her since we were kids. She’s lying.”

I plop down on the bed and stare at her with no emotion on my face. “Was she?”

Kimberly scoffed loudly, turning to me. “Yes. Obviously Ryan. I’m your Luna, why would I lie to you?”

“She seemed very confident for someone making up lies.” I pointed out in a lazy tone, tilting my head as I stared at Kimberly.

Since Evie turned up today, Kimberly and my mom had been acting strange. I should question the other pack members about Evie. But then again, I shouldn’t. I didn’t want them to question why I was so intrigued with a woman who wasn’t my Luna.

Especially a woman who’s from the Midnight Ridge pack.

However, perhaps Kimberly’s parents would have some answers.

Kimberly’s eyes flashed.”Are you seriously entertaining that nonsense?” Her eyes studied me and how quiet I was and then she let out a sarcastic laugh.

“Oh my God, you are,” she shakes her head and turns around to walk away. “I’m not entertaining these lies.” She yanked the door open and stormed out before I could say a word.

I stared at the door for a long moment before exhaling slowly.

“Finally,” I mottered. The quiet that followed after she left was a relief

But it didn’t last long because the moment my mind was free…I went right back to Evie

The way she had looked at me in the kitchen. The way her wrist had felt in my hand and that damn spark. I felt it

My wolf stirred again. ‘Evie, something about her is different.”

“Yeah,” I said out loud and fell back on my bed, staring at the ceiling. “Something tells me there’s truth in her words too. It would explain this pull to her.”

‘If she really is our true mate,’ Apex growled.’ That means we rejected her. It would explain why she hates us badly.’

I stared at the ceiling, my hands folding behind my head as Apex’s words settled heavily in my mind. If she were my true luna, then why would I reject her?

Asking Evie about it seemed pointless, as she clearly hated my guts enough not to tell me the truth. But the spark was there, the pull and tug. Something I didn’t feel towards Kimberly or anyone else.

I need to get answers but I need to get them in a smart way. She only has until our wolves are trained and she leaves. I need to get the truth before it’s too late.

Evie’s pov

Dawn was here already and it was still a little dark as a thin layer of fog brushed the training field. Gavin stands beside me, arms crossed as he looks out at the field.

“What are you starting them with today?” he questions, sounding intrigued. I stretched, hearing the satisfying sound of my bones popping.

“I want to see how weak they are,” I mumble. “I can’t train them to their full capacity if I can’t see what they’re lacking in.”

Gavin snorts.” If half of their pack was demolished so quickly, I think they lack a lot.”

I let out a chuckle and Lisa and the others finally arrive. “God, did we have to start so early?” Lisa whined and I shot her a glare. She presses her lips together and raises her hands up in surrender.” Geez, sorry.”

The others laugh at her and when their gazes drift to me, they stop immediately.” The silver blood warriors aren’t here yet.” One points out, looking around the field.

‘They aren’t,” I grumble in displeasure. They were already not taking this seriously, it’s no wonder they’ve gotten so weak.

A rustle at the edge of the field made me glance up. My lips pressed into a thin line instantly. It was Alpha Ryan.
