In the shadows, hidden behind a huge bush, crouches Hannah, who saw the entire altercation between the two alphas. Her lips spread into a smirk, her heart pulsing with excitement that she found a way to get her best friend Kimberly and Beta Margaret out of the dirty cells.
All she had to do was inform the council that Alpha Ryan lost control and attacked Alpha Gavin unprovoked. They will call them both in for questioning and that would leave a chance for Kimberly to escape with Margaret.
It was a good plan. One Hannah will execute right this second.
Before anyone could take a sniff of her scent, she ran off in the direction of the pack house, her intentions set and her heart beating quickly as adrenaline pulses in her body.
Evie’s pov
My pulse was still racing as I followed the scent Ryan left behind. He went inside the house and the second I stepped foot in, I could hear something clashing and breaking on the floor.
He was angry.
My eyes drop to the floor and see the dots of blood trailing up the stairs. He was hurt.
My heart thrums painfully as I follow the blood trail. I wasn’t supposed to be in that area of the pack house but I didn’t care. The metallic scent of blood grew stronger with every step I took and drew closer to Ryan.
It coated the air so thickly that it would be hard to miss. But that’s not all that coated the air….his scent tangled with the copper, sharp, so familiar and so….distracting.
My jaw tightened. Focus Evie.
‘He smells so good,’ Serena whines. ‘How can we resist such a delicious scent?’
I agree with her. The more we stay in this pack, the more everything about Ryan taunts me. He haunts me here
even more now.
Another crash echoed from upstairs but it sounds like glass this time. I’quickened my pace, my heart thundering. I remember this area all too well from the many times I went to his room years ago.
We had so many memories here. Just us two. Just him and me.
My heart pangs and I swallow down the feeling. It wasn’t the best time to go down memory lane.
I can hear him in his room, roaring, hissing as he throws glass after glass on the floor and walls. I bit my tongue and stopped before his door.
And then, before I could tell myself this was a bad idea and head back down, my fingers moved on their own and opened the door.
I froze.
The room was in such a state of disaster that it looked like a tornado had passed through it. A chair lay splintered against the wall. The bedside table by the king-size bed had been flipped, one leg broken clean off. Shards of glass glittered across the floor messily.
Ryan stood near the window half-naked, back now in his human form. Blood dripped from his arm and leg as he

huffed. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“What are you doing here?” His voice is dark and low, tired but still angry. “You’re not supposed to be in these parts of the house. Especially in my room.”
I stepped into the room regardless of his words and closed the door with a click. He grows stiff and looks at me slightly over his shoulder. “Aren’t you supposed to be with your alpha tending to his wounds?” His voice taunts me, but every word that spilled out of his mouth is bitter.
My eyes flicker to his wound and without thinking, I strut to him. “You’re bleeding.” I pointed out.
His eyes cast down to his wound without a care. “It will heal up soon,” then his gaze lift and they clash on my eyes. I can’t seem to breathe.
“Why do you even care?” His tone drops low as if he had lost the fight to even speak. “You made that clear a few minutes ago that you don’t give a damn about me.”
My feet crunch on glass but I don’t care about the sting. It’s little from what I’ve experienced before. I stop before him, the warmth of him brushing against me even though we are apart.
Shivers race down my spine and I try my hardest to ignore them.
“Let me help you with your wound-
“Get out,” Ryan said coldly, eyes casting away from me and my heart sank, but I didn’t move. He wasn’t the boss of me. He couldn’t tell me what to do.
