Kimberly’s pov

The burning wouldn’t stop in my chest. I screamed out, gripping at my chest as tears flowed down my cheeks. Goddess, what is this pain?

My thoughts are answered when I feel the sharp sting where his mark lies on my neck.

A staggering, shocked breath left my throat as I lifted my hand to touch it. Ryan……

That good for nothing asshole! He was kissing her!

“Kimberly, Kimberly darling,” Mom’s voice echoed down the room. They had placed her in a different cell from me. “What’s going on?”

I gritted my teeth and fell to my knees as I gripped the spot on my neck. “I hate him,” I growled, my eyes burning on the dirty concrete floors.

That’s why he placed me in there. So he could push his cock in her whenever he pleases. I should’ve killed that bitch of a sister of mine a long time ago. Why didn’t I think to get rid of her myself?

“I fucking hate him,” I growled, my nails scraping against the concrete floor as another wave of pain tore through my chest.

It felt like something was being ripped out of me brutally. Like the mark itself was screaming. My breathing came out shaky and uneven as I clutched at my neck, fingers pressing hard against the mark he had given me.

The very same mark that now burned like it was rejecting me.

“Kimberly!” my mother’s voice sharpened as panic laced her tone. “What’s happening? Talk to me!”

I sucked in a shaky breath, forcing myself to sit up despite the pain. “He…”, I swallowed hard, my lips curling in fury. “He’s with her.” I snarled furiously. The words tasted like bitter poison on my tongue. So disgusting. So humiliating.

For a moment, all I could hear was my own shaky breathing and the violent pounding of my heart against my ribs from how furious I was.

“I knew I should’ve killed that bitch a long ago,” mom grumbles under her breath. The second her words come out, we hear the groaning of the doors opening. We both became quiet even though I was in pain.

“Took so much coaxing for them to let me in here,” the familiar feminine voice made me relax. Hannah.

“Hannah,” I say with a slight chirp in my tone, staggering to my feet and rushing to the metal bars. My fingers curl around them hard as she appears in my vision.

“I think I have a way to get you two out of here,” she whispered, gaze flickering to the entrance, afraid someone would hear her.

Even though the pain on the mark intensifies, I ignore it as her words piqued my interest.” How? Ryan came over earlier. I could see it in his eyes. He won’t let me out….ever.”

Hannah whispered. “I know. Which is why, after I get you two out of here, there will be no going back.”

I let out a cold laugh. “He already chose her side. He chose her. His memories are coming back; I’ve lost him. I just want to get out of here now.”

Hannah nods. “Good. My plan is to inform the council about his losing control today. He and Alpha Gavin fought because of her in the field-

My brows raised in shock. “He fought another alpha for her?” I said bitterly.

Wow. Ryan would never have fought someone for my sake and I’m the one he marked!

Hannah nods. “Yes. I will tell the council he attacked Alpha Gavin unprovoked. That he’s unstable-

“And by doing so, they will call them both in for questioning….” My voice trails off as my brows furrow in thought.

Hannah nodded once, her lips curling into a smirk. “Which will leave perfect time for you two to escape without the two alphas here. I bet Stephie will help.”

I groaned, holding my chest. “I doubt she will. I ratted her and Ryker out about the memory sweep. She probably hates me right now.”

Hannah’s smirk faltered slightly but she regained her composure. “Then we won’t rely on her.”

My jaw clenched as another pulse of pain tore through my chest. I sucked in a sharp breath and forced myself to stay upright.

“No,” I said through gritted teeth. “We don’t need her.”

We didn’t need anyone. We could do this on our own.

I let out a shaky breath, my fingers still pressed against my mark. It stung badly, like a hot iron had pressed against the flesh.

My eyes darkened. “He fought another Alpha for her…” I repeated, my voice low, almost to myself. The thought twisted something ugly inside me and left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Ryan had never, not even once looked at me like I was worth fighting for. Yet he did…..for her.

My nails dig into my palm.
