Ryan’s pov

When I finally gained consciousness, it was already dark out. I groaned, lifting myself off the floor, wincing when a sharp pain hit my temples.

I stagger to my feet, my fingers pressing against my throbbing head.

I remember everything. Every single thing. From the betrayal by my parents to calling Gavin about Evie…

I recall him saying that he didn’t find her. That she hadn’t been spotted in his territory. I remember everything down to the witch forcing the memories of Evie to lie dormant.

I remember-

Evie……..

My baby. Even if they tried so hard to keep us away from each other, fate had a crazy way of bringing us back.

Even if now she hated me to the core, at least she was here and hopefully I can get through to her and tell her everything.

She had to listen. She had to believe-

A sharp knock sounded on the door, jolting me out of my thoughts. I stiffened. I hadn’t called anyone up yet.

“What?” I snapped into the air and sniffing to catch the scent of whoever was behind the door. It was one of my warriors. The one appointed with beta duties until the Beta gets back on his feet.

“Álpha, there’s a very important phone call waiting for you in the office,” his voice is pitched with urgency.

Important? The only thing important right now is getting to Evie and telling her I have regained my memories. Maybe then….she would listen to me.

“Can’t it wait?” I grit out, my intention is to find Evie as soon as possible.

“It cannot, I’m afraid Alpha. The call….” he drawled as if he was afraid to mention who the call was from. “It’s from the council.”

The council……. of all fucking times.

My jaw clenched so tightly it ached as a low irritated growl rumble in my chest before I could stop it. The timing wasn’t convenient.

I wanted to ignore it, to walk past that door and to find Evie. To fix the damage before it became something irreversible.

But I couldn’t. Not yet. Not when it was the council. Not when they had the authority to tear this entire pack apart if they felt like it.

“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath, dragging a hand through my hair before turning toward the door. “Tell them I’m coming,” I said coldly as I glared out the window.

Evie would have to wait for a little while.

“Yes, Alpha,” the warrior, Brett utters rapidly. His footsteps retreated quickly, like he didn’t want to be anywhere

near me.

He was smart because my anger was hanging on by a thread right now.

Each step towards the office made the irritation grow even more because every step closer wasted my time. This added more seconds for Evie to slip from my grasp.

I didn’t want her to slip further away from me.

By the time I pushed the office doors open, my expression had hardened into something cold as my glaring eyes pin on the phone on the desk.

I strut in after closing the door with a slam and walk towards it. I can hear the person on the other end breathing quickly as if they had no patience at all.

My jaw pops.

I don’t bother sitting down, I grab the phone and bring it to my ear. “Alpha Ryan speaking,” I uttered with no warmth in my tone.

“Ah Alpha Ryan,” the man on the other end utters in a rough tone. “You finally answered.”

“I was occupied,” I said flatly.” Make it quick.”

I knew I wasn’t supposed to talk to a council member the way I did him. But right now, I don’t give a damn. I wanted to speak to Evie and the faster this conversation ends, the faster I can get to her.

“Alpha Ryan,” the man’s voice grows irritated. “So it’s true then you can’t control your emotions since Alpha Gavin stepped foot in the territory.”

I freeze.

Where was he going with this?

“What do you mean by that?” I gritted out, the grip around the phone tightening.

“It has been brought to our attention that you lost control today and fought Alpha Gavin. In doing so, we are requesting you both alphas to come to the council court….” he did a dramatic pause that made me grit my teeth.” Now.”

Now?

Was he fucking insane?!

My eyes dart to the clock on the wall. It read 10:30 p.m. My eyes widen. Had I been out that long?

“It’s late at night. It’s 10-

“Now.” He hissed on the other end and the line went dead.

I stared at the phone for a long second after the line went dead and then I laughed. A low humorless laugh.

“They’ve lost their fucking minds,” I muttered, dropping the phone back onto its base a little harder than

necessary.

Now.

The audacity to even be so demanding this late at night. At 10:30 p.m. After everything that just happened with me, regaining my memories. After Evie-

My chest tightened instantly, the anger shifting direction so fast it made my head throb slightly again.

Evie.

I didn’t have time for this. I didn’t have time for the council demands right now. Not tonight at least. Not when Evie walked away from me earlier believing I tried to have her killed.

Apex stirred restlessly. ‘We go to her.’ He demanded and I couldn’t agree with him more.

‘Yeah,’ I breathed, already turning toward the door. ‘We go to her.’
