The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 116

Chapter 116

Kieran

The hospital corridor was quiet as we walked back to the elevator.

Serena walked beside me. Not in front, not behind. Beside. Her hand was not in mine anymore nor did I

reach for it.

I pressed the button. The elevator came. We stepped in.

I could not look away from her.

Her face was flat. Her eyes were on the doors. Her posture was polite.

I did not know what to do with this version of her.

“Serena.” My voice came out gentler than I meant it to. “What is wrong?”

It was as if she had been waiting for me to ask because the second the sentence came out, a short laugh broke qut of her.

“I just found things rather funny, Kieran.”

“Serena-”

“You have disrespected me a lot in the past year, Kieran.” Her voice was level. She was not yelling. That was the scary part. “You have embarrassed me. You have humiliated me. You have made me beg for things a wife should never have to beg for. I thought there was nothing left you could do to surprise me. But tonight you did something else. Tonight, you actively made me watch you take care of the woman who destroyed our marriage. Tonight, you treated her like a queen while you pulled me around that corridor like a dog.”

The elevator dinged. The doors opened.

She walked out ahead of me.

I caught up, grabbed her wrist.

“Serena, wait. Please wait. Tell me what you are feeling.”

She turned.

Her face was still unreadable. There was no heat behind

her eves.

“I am not feeling anything, Kieran.” She shrugged.

“Stop it.”

“I truly am not.” Her voice did not shake. “I do not have any emotions left to spare for you.”

The words cut through my chest. There was no rage behind them, no pain, no bitterness.

I spent the past months watching her rage at me. Watching her eyes fill with tears over things I did and did not do. Watching her scream, throw things, slam doors. I hated it at the time. I told myself I wanted peace, I wanted her quiet, I wanted her to stop making me feel I was the villain of our story.

Now her face was empty and I wanted one of those tantrums back more than anything.

“Serena.” My voice was rough. “You do not get to say that. You have been flaunting your relationship with Misha in front of the whole hospital. You brought him here to introduce him to your parents. You cannot be the one without emotions when you are the one doing all of this.”

She stopped walking.

She turned toward me.

“Who pushed me into Misha’s arms, Kieran?”

I froze. “What?”

“Who pushed me into Misha’s arms?”

My jaw tightened. “I did not—”

“For months,” she said, “Kieran, you paraded Sophie through our marriage. I watched you do things for her you never did for me. You stood beside her when her world fell apart. Do you know what you did for me when my world was falling apart? You choose her over me.”

“I never cheated on you.” I managed to say to her.

“You cheated on me every day, Kieran.” Her voice did not rise. “Every day you chose her. Every day you compared me to her. Every day you showed me, through your actions, that she was the one you wanted and I was the obligation you were stuck with. That is cheating. Just because you claimed you did not sleep with her does not mean you did not cheat.”

“Serena-”

“You cheated on me, Kieran.” She held my eyes. “So when Sophie came back, was I not interesting to you anymore? When she walked back into your life, did you even pause to think about me? About the wife you were married to? Or did you just fall back into the same patterns, the same habits, the same choices you always made when it came to her?”

I opened my mouth.

I closed it.

I opened it again.

“When Sophie came back,” I said slowly, “I felt confusion. Not love. I did not know what to do with her being back.

I did not know what she was to me. I was not in love with

her, Serena. I did not know-”

“I really do not care, Kieran.”

“Serena, please-”

“I do not care.” She pulled her wrist out of my hand. “Can

we stop talking now? I am tired.”

I glanced at her and her face was back to being unreadable, in truth, it never turned into something I could read.

From her words, the few things I could gather was her resignation. She wanted nothing to do with me anymore.

“We still have to go to the Alpha house. The partnership celebration. It is happening, Serena. You agreed-”

“Fine. We will go. Now can we stop talking?”

She walked out of the hospital.

I drove us home.

She did not speak for the whole ride. She was on her phone. Her thumbs moved across the screen. She was smiling at something.

I glanced at her.
