The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 43

Chapter 43

Serena

I knew the moment I told them about the debt, they would try to save me.

That was who my parents were. They would empty their pockets and break their own backs before they let me drown. But this was my mess. I married him. I let him do this to me but I was not about to let them suffer for my

mistakes.

I saw the look on their faces. The lines of worries on my father’s face and the fear in my mother’s. I had wanted to simply confide in them, without making them worry.

But that was inevitable.

I quickly shook my head. “I’ll figure it out myself. I’ll find

a way.”

My mother didn’t argue. She just wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, stood up, and looked at me for a long moment. She held my head in both her palms and kissed my forehead. Then she glanced at my father.

My father gave a small nod and my mother turned and walked out of the room.

I didn’t know where she went. I just sat there staring at my father who stared right back at me with a heavy silence. I could see it in him his regrets for how our lives turned out to be, if the pack was how it used to be, Kieran wouldn’t have this power over us.

And I knew my father blamed himself for that.

My mother came back carrying a briefcase.

It was black and medium sized. She held it close to her chest before setting it on the table. The briefcase had a

lock on it.

“What is this?” I looked between them. “What’s happening?”

My mother punched in the code and then opened the clasps and lifted the lid.

Two jewelry sets sat inside on black velvet. An emerald necklace set and a diamond necklace set. The stones

were beautifully crafted, they looked so beautiful almost 275 unreal.

I recognized them.

My mother took a seat. “This is our family’s heirloom. It has been passed down for generations. From my grandmother to my mother to me.”

She paused and pressed her hand flat on the table beside

the briefcase.

“When we lost everything, we couldn’t afford to let this go. It was the last thing we had left of who we were. When Kieran paid off our debts, we offered him this as payment but he refused it.” Her voice was steady but her chin trembled. “But since he is asking for money now, then we pay him back.”

She looked me in the eyes. “This is worth more than a billion dollars, Serena. Sell it and get your divorce.”

I couldn’t breathe.

And they wanted to sell it for me.

I shook my head. “No.”

didn’t deserve this. I married Kieran and forgot all about my family. I put him first in everything. I dropped my studies, my music, my dreams, everything that was mine, and handed it all to a man who didn’t want it. I disregarded my own parents. I had only Kieran in my mind for years, like they didn’t exist.

And now the man I gave up everything for had put me in a cage. And here was, crawling back to the same family I had alm

My mother grabbed my face with both hands.

“This is important,” she said. Her tears were falling but her voice did not break. “You have to take this. You 475 cannot raise your child with that man. We have to do
