The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Kieran

I cleared my throat. “She is fine, things with Serena are okay. She’s busy,” I said. “She can’t come right now but she will be back.”

Jenna laughed from where she was hiding; the sound was the last thing I wanted to hear. She had become so daring these days.

“That’s not true.” She looked at me. “Serena told me she would rather die than get back together with you.”

I glared at my sister; my eyes burned with a heat that could have set her on fire.

“I won’t be divorcing Serena,” I said to the room. “Nothing will make me divorce her.”

Father stepped forward. “Serena is out of control. If divorce is what she wants, then she should get it.”

“Divorce is out of the question.” My chest burned but I kept my voice level. “It is not going to happen.”

Mother turned to me. “Why?” Her voice rose. “Are you going to wait until Serena announces to the entire world ‘that she wants to be free of you? Are you going to let

everyone talk about it and drag this pack through the mud?”

“Why does this family keep pushing for a divorce?” I looked at each of them. “It is not going to happen.”

Grandfather walked to his seat and sat down. He stared at me with a disapproving look but what did it matter?

“You are the Alpha,” he said. “Everything you do reflects on this pack. If you keep acting this way, the stability we built will crumble and the respect we earned from other packs will disappear.” He fixed his eyes on me. “To keep the scandal of your cheating quiet, you have to agree to the divorce.”

“That won’t happen,” I said.

I turned and walked out not waiting to hear any more of their ludicrousity.

In the car, I called Mark. “Find me a new apartment. Something in a good area.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

‘An hour later, Mark called back; he found a place in the same building as Trevor. I called a movers company and drove to the house I shared with Serena to oversee the

move.

Trevor was there when I arrived. He leaned against the porch railing and watched the movers carry boxes through the front door.

“You’re wasting your time,” he said. “Serena wouldn’t care about the house because the house was never the problem.” He looked at me. “You are the problem, Kieran. You are what’s dirty, not the walls.”

I grabbed a box from the nearest mover and carried it to the truck myself.

“She’s going to divorce you,” Trevor continued. “Prepare for it.”

“Serena is not in the country because she needs to cool off.” I set the box down and turned to face him. “She will come back when she isn’t angry anymore and we will go back to how we used to be.”

Trevor shook his head.

*My phone buzzed, I fished it out only to see that it was a

message from Sophie; Can you come over to see me?

“I have to go,” I told Trevor. “Help me with the rest of the

move.”

He gave me a look that could have peeled paint off a wall. “You’re going to see Sophie.”

I got in the car and drove away.

Sophie sat on the hospital bed; the room was quiet and Ethan was not with her.

“Where is Ethan?” I asked.

“With my mother.” She folded her hands in her lap. “He isn’t doing well.” She paused. “What have you decided to do?”

I sat down in the chair beside the bed. “I’m going to give you money. Sixty million. You take it and you leave the country.”

Her eyes went wide. “What?”

“That’s the best I can do for you. With that money, you can live any kind of life you want, anywhere you choose.” ‘I tried to convince her because it was the plausible

solution. If she left, not only would she be free from my Grandfather, but I would be able to get Serena to stop talking about getting a divorce.

Sophie shook her head. “I didn’t call you here to beg for money.”

“Then why did you call me?”

She pressed her lips together. “Not for money.”

“If you don’t take it,” I said, “I cannot promise that I can save you from my mother again. She is my mother and I cannot hurt her.”

Sophie’s face crumpled. “I don’t have a house anymore.” Her voice was small. “I was wondering if I could stay in yours, just until I get back on my feet.”

“No.” The word came out fast. “That house belongs to me and my wife and you cannot stay there.”

She flinched.

“Aren’t you tired?” I leaned forward. “My family treats you badly. They hurt you and they chased you out.” I held her gaze. “Take the cheque, Sophie. Start over somewhere safe.”

She shook her head. “I can’t stay away from my family. They are here.”

“The money would cover your family too.” My tone softened. “You could bring them with you.”

Sophie looked at her hands. Then she raised her head.
