The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Serena

Sophie called my phone, and I did not know how she got my number.

Then she showed up at my parents’ house.

The first words out of her mouth were about Kieran, the

same Kieran I was tearing out of my chest one root at a

time.

She stood on the porch and told me how Kieran informed her I was back in the country. She told me how generous and passionate he had been all the months I was away. She told me I gave her the house and the ring because I wanted Kieran back and was using reverse psychology on

him.

She told me I was manipulating my own husband.

My nails dug into my palms; my jaw ached from the pressure of keeping my mouth shut.

Sophie had the nerve to come here, to my paren 11:58

useful thing she could do, which was to convince Kieran to let me go. She chose to fight me instead of fighting for what she claimed was already hers.

“You and I don’t have any business with each other,” I said. “Take your grievances to someone who cares.” I folded my arms across my chest. “Better yet, focus on getting Kieran to sign the divorce documents.”

Sophie tilted her chin up. “The only reason Kieran has not divorced you is because he is respectful. That’s the only reason he signed those papers in the first place.” Her voice carried a sweetness that was poison underneath. “I own his heart. All he could ever give you was a title, and from what it seems, that’s what you deserve.”

My blood was a furnace; it roared in my ears and scorched the backs of my eyes.

Before I could open my mouth, the roar of an engine cut through the air behind me and I spun around.

Josh sat behind the wheel of my father’s car. The vehicle. tore down the driveway and headed straight for Sophie; the tires screamed against the pavement and the hood aimed at her body.

Sophie’s eyes went wide and she tried to jump out of the way, but the car was too fast; it clipped her and she spun off her feet and hit the ground.

“Josh!” I screamed his name so loud my throat burned.

He killed the engine and sat in the driver’s seat with his hands on the wheel and his jaw set.

“Why did you do that?” I grabbed the door handle and pulled it open. “What is wrong with you?”

“I’m not going to watch my sister get harassed by a stupid girl,” he said.

Sophie lay on the ground; she groaned and pressed her hands against her side and blood seeped through the fabric of her dress near her hip.

I pulled out my phone and called the ambulance.

The paramedics arrived within minutes and loaded Sophie onto a stretcher. I climbed in beside her; Josh tried to follow but I pushed him back.

“Go inside and tell Mom and Dad what happened.” I said,

“Now.”

His jaw set and his feet did not move. Then he ignored me and climbed into the ambulance anyway.

The hospital admitted Sophie immediately and the doctor recommended a full body scan to check which bones

she broke from the impact. I agreed because there was nothing else I could do.

After the test, Josh and I stood by the ward door. Sophie sat propped up in the bed and ate bland hospital food; she complained about it between bites and blamed us for the fact that she was here.

The ward door opened behind us and Kieran walked in.

He strolled past Josh and past me without a glance; his eyes did not flicker in our direction and his stride did not slow. He went straight to Sophie’s bed and sat on the edge.

Sophie saw him and burst into tears. She pressed her face. into his chest and her arms wrapped around his neck; he held her close and his hand cradled the back of her head

and his mouth moved near her ear.

My stomach churned; Aina whimpered inside me and 1:58

pressed my fist against my ribs to keep her quiet.

“Who did this to you?” Kieran’s voice was low and rough. “Tell me and I will make them regret it.”

Sophie lifted her head from his chest; her eyes were wet and her lips trembled and she raised one hand and pointed at me, then at Josh.

“I only went to say hello to Mrs. Thawthorne after I found out she was back in the country,” Sophie said; her voice cracked with every word. “But what I got in return was attempted murder.”

Josh stepped forward. “She’s a liar.”

Sophie did not flinch. She stayed pressed against Kieran’s side and continued. “They treated me so badly and that is why I am in this hospital bed.” She reached for the nightstand and picked up a bag. “I came in peace. I even brought fruits as a gift for her family.”

She held the bag up and let everyone in the room see it.

“And then out of nowhere,” Sophie continued, “the boy got into a car and drove straight at me. I don’t even know where he got the car from.”

Josh’s body went rigid beside me; his fists clenched and his breathing turned shallow.

Before I could grab him, he threw himself toward Sophie’s bed. I caught the back of his shirt but he thrashed and twisted and ripped free from my grip.

“I will kill you!” Josh’s voice cracked. “You lying—”
