The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 10

I slept horrible. I watched Colt mingle with everyone while I ate. After a while of the chaos I snuck away to my hut. Walking back by myself made me a little uneasy. I was going to ask Beta Luke to walk me back, but I hadn’t seen him all night. When I got back I showered and got in bed.

No matter what I did I couldn’t sleep. My brain was going crazy. These last two days have been exhausting. When I woke I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep. Today the only event taking place was the evening battles. I decided I was going to take the day to explore the area that may end up being my home.

Last night Colt made it clear he wasn’t going to be rejecting me. So, unless I change his mind somehow I guess I’m stuck here. I just wish I had my best friend here, it’s really lonely in a new place by myself. Yeah my parents and a few pack members are here, but no one I can really talk to.

I walked to the place that seemed like the main area people went. I realized the area had a couple little shops where people sold things they’ve made. While I was walking around a woman came up and pretended to shop, watching my every move. I tried to ignore her, she appeared to be unhappy.

That only worked until she came right up to me and slapped a blanket out of my hands that I was looking at. “Who the hell do you think you are?” she growled through her teeth. I sighed, “I’m sorry, do I know you?” Trying my very best to not rip this woman apart.

“You’d better stay away from my man, b***h!” she said loudly placing her hands on her hips. I found this rather amusing. “Oh, which one is yours?” I said poking my hip out to the side, placing a hand on it and lazily bringing my finger to my chin mocking being in thought. “Alpha Colt!” she yelled at me.

I won’t lie, I felt a sting in my chest. Does he have someone else? I shook it off. Who am I kidding, of course he does. He doesn’t care about me.

I hid my pain and surprise from her though. She’s not getting any satisfaction out of this encounter. “Ohh, yeah. Something tells me you must not be doing a very good job making sure he’s satisfied.” I said in as innocent of a tone as I possibly could. “Satisfied men don’t go looking for something better.”

I winked then turned to walk away. “Alpha belongs to me little missy!” she followed after me yelling. “I was his haze mate last year and am again this year.”

She continued yelling. She finally stopped walking after me and finished off with “I am his chosen mate, stay away from him.” I waved my hand in the air as I continued walking. I found my way to the calm part of the river and decided to follow it down a little.

I sat on a rock on the shoreline where the calm slowly became rapids. I brought my knees to my chest and hugged around them. Why did it bother me so much to hear about him with another woman? It’s not like I expected him to be a virgin. He is a couple years older than me so he’s lived through more hazes.

Was he really seeing another woman while he’s been touching me? the thought made me cringe. I was taken from my thoughts when a deep voice came from behind me. “Ignore that Jasmine.” I turned to look at the familiar voice. “Alpha Aiden. Hi.”

I said allowing myself to calm my nerves. “I didn’t mean to startle you.” he said with humor in his voice. He is quite a handsome man. The words Colt said to me before we came back to the arena last night flashed in my mind. Why do I need to listen to him when he’s clearly seeing another woman? I shook him from my thoughts and turned back to face the water.

“You’re speaking to my mate, Aiden.” Aiden shot a look at the, “Yeah, he seems to like to rub that in my face.” I said, making it a point to not hide my annoyance.

“But it’s ok, like you heard earlier, he has a chosen mate so I guess I can be let off the hook.” I plastered on a fake smile trying to hide the hurt I felt just saying that.

“Leave us, Aiden” Colt demanded. He looked over at me and then back at Colt. I still haven’t taken my eyes off the river. “Look, I’ll leave you to talk but you better not hurt her, Colt.” he said to Colt as he got up and started stepping off the rock. Colt let a growl escape between his teeth.

When Aiden was gone Colt walked up closer behind me. Nothing in me wanted to hear his crap today so I just kept looking at the river. “So I have a chosen mate?” he asked me, like he didn’t know.

Yeah right. “Spare me the ‘There’s no one else for me’ s**t.” I spat at him. The anger is really starting to set in now. “What the hell are you on about, Freya?” he was just going to keep up with this innocent charade, wasn’t he?

“Don’t give me this s**t Colt. She made it a point to tell the whole market area, or whatever you call that place.” I’m not caving. I’m not going to let him do this to me. I don’t share. I mean, I didn’t want to be mated to him anyways
