FREYA POV
For fear of the worse, I informed Jessi what to do if things were to go south. Given that I’m sure they can sense one of their own here, and it’s in this building in the cellar I fear that if they do attack they will head straight for this house. She is to get these kids out of here and to safety.
Colt came up behind me, “Freya, I think we need to talk before we go to meet them.”
“You’re NOT benching me on this Colt.” I start to say, assuming that he’s going back on his word, again.
He chuckles a little, “No, I mean I wish I could make you take off with the kids and find safety but I’m not doing this. I think it’s time that we actually listen to what the universe is trying to tell us and stay together.”
I smile at him with admiration. “I think we can do anything together my mate.” I say to him.
“I agree.” He said back, “But what I was going to say is that I want for you and the rest of the pack to not speak. Only through our mind link. I don’t think it will be intimidating to the bears like it was to the Crow but then we can control what our pack has to say.”
I nodded in agreement and reached for his hand. “Let’s go face the bear shifters.”
As we walked down to where the bears are crossing over into our territory, I couldn’t help but let the pride of our pack walking tall behind us into this type of situation.
I can sense the group of bears just ahead of us. It’s odd that we can sense them in a group like this
but we couldn’t sense when it was just one of them When we came into view, they got in attack positions and began to snort and huff very loudly and harsh.
It was apparent that they were wanting to attack. Colt stood still and instructed the pack to stay in place and prepare for the charge of the bears.
He held up his hand in a defensive signal, “We know you are shifters, like us. We wish to speak with
you and not fight.”
They did nothing, just stood there looking at us, continuing to huff.
“Is it possible for us to talk, like humans? I do not know if you speak other languages.” Colt tried
again to speak to them.
Again, they did nothing. “Can you tell us why you are here, on our pack grounds?” He asked again.
After a few seconds, seeming like they were again just going to stand there looking at us, one of them began to shift. It caught us all by surprise. We all knew they were shifters, but something about actually watching them do it was enchanting

The woman stood tall, large broad body figure but very much so in shape. Markings all over her body just like the man in our cellar. She has beautiful pale skin that is only barely covered by fur in the intimate areas. Long brown hair flowing in the wind like waves of water. Her eyes so blue you
could see them shine even though she was quite a ways away.
Just then a mind link came in from Jessi at the pack house, “Eunice said that they are going to
resort to fighting, but not to worry.”
I looked to Colt, he looked back at me. Nothing about them attacking sounds good, so I’m not sure
why we wouldn’t want to worry about that. I trust Eunice though, his visions have never done us
wrong. I nodd
He lightly bowed, and the rest of us followed suit.
Her voice, very loud and brave sounding broke the awkward feeling silence, “You have killed one of
my men.” She has a very beautiful sounding accent. I can’t put my finger on it, but it almost sounds
Inupiaq. I’m thinking they’ve come from up in the Alaska area. I’ve met a few people from up there.
Very nice, traditional type wolves. I’m rather hoping the bears are the same.
Colt nodded, “Yes. We apologize. We were not aware bear shifters were a thing at the time or we
wouldn’t have hunted him.”
She eyed him, I couldn’t tell if she was angry or maybe sad. Her features were very hard to read.
“You ate him?” She asked.
“No.” Colt said. “We would have, it was the plan to feed our pack but then we learned he was a
shifter. We do not eat shifters.” His tone was very calm. It was clear in his voice he didn’t want to
fight and that’s the goal here.
The edge of her mouth twitched slightly, “I want his body.” She responded.
“We can make that happen.” Colt answered.
I linked him quickly, “Don’t you think maybe we should prepare her for the condition of his body? I
don’t think people often hand others over a body missing all the insides and a large hole in the
front of him.”
He looked like he was thinking for a moment, then shook his head very modestly. I could barely tell
that’s what he was doing.
“Would you like for us to bring it to you?” Colt asked
“Yes.” She answered.
I had a bad feeling about this. I know if it was me, and one of our men was brought back to us by the people that killed him with a large gaping hole in his body and no insides I would want blood. I guess we’re just praying that she’s not like me.

Colt linked for a handful of guys to dispatch from our pack and go back to the house and grab the body. Though he did have the decency to ask that they wrap him up.
While they were gone gathering the man’s body, I began counting as many bears as I could see. I
got up to about twenty. One of them took out one of our strong warriors, I imagine that this could get quite ugly. Unfortunately, the twenty I counted were only what I could see. I am hoping that’s all
but if life has taught me anything these past couple of years it’s that things are never as they
appear.
When they got back and brought the body to Colt, he motioned for them to place the body just
before the line of bears.
She stepped forward, out front behind the couple of bears that were standing in front of her and
knelt by the body. When she opened the blanket and saw the man, her face began to show
emotion. Unfortunately for us, it was not sadness that shone on her face. When she looked up at
Colt, the rage in her eyes told us this was far from over.
