COLT POV
Freya was right, maybe we should have warned her of the condition of the man’s body before we
handed him over to them. This bear woman was pissed.
“What the hell did you do to him?” She hollered. She flung the blanket open so the bears behind her
could see. They all began to huff, growl, swat at the ground, and stomp.
Very quickly this was turning from a bad situation to a worse situation.
Freya stepped to stand beside me, “As my Alpha has mentioned, we were not aware that any other animal were shifters. When we kill a creature we are planning to feed to our pack we process it to make the meat last longer.” She began speaking in such a motherly tone. “I understand this was
not the condition you were hoping to get your man back in, but we did not do this to harm or
torture him.”
The woman bear stood there and eyed Freya. Though I told Freya not to speak and only mind link, I think this was better than immediately going into an all out brawl that I am not sure our pack is
walking away from very well. I’ve only seen one bear fight so far and it took all of us stabbing and
shooting at it before we were able to get him down.
She stood there contemplating for a moment and finally she said, “Today we will have peace.
Tomorrow we will be back to settle this.”
She turned and two bears walked up and grabbed the body.
*FREYA POV*
I turned to Colt, “I do not like this one bit.” I linked to him only.
“I agree.” He said back. “I think we need another brilliant plan to get us out of this one.” He said.
We got back to the pack house, my mother and father came to us asking what they can do to help.
Colt decided he needed to call a council with his top warriors and my parents could sit along while
we tried to figure out the best way to handle this situation.
It didn’t take long for everyone to get here. I asked Eunice to join as well. Though he does not
battle with us, he’s a very intelligent man and has witnessed many battles in his time. There have been times when his input on our plans have been very useful.
“Tomorrow they will be back and they will be attacking. When we were in the woods hunting the one they just took back, we had six of us and as he attacked Josh it took the rest of us continuously stabbing, shooting, punching and kicking the damn thing just to get it off of Josh.” He began.

“I counted twenty bears, just that I could see so I have no idea how many more there are. We’d need a hundred twenty men on the ground fighting and we’d lose or greatly wound twenty of our wolves. Not to mention, that’s assuming they don’t fight any better or worse as a group.” I added.
“Well, we have three hundred at least. Isn’t that going to be good enough then?” Ash asked.
Levi spoke up, “Well, like she said, that’s just what she could see. Plus, they could come back with more tomorrow.” He sat back in his chair, “The issue is that none of us know what exactly we’re
going up against.”
My mom asked, “Do we know anything about their weaknesses or something
we might be able to use against them?”
My dad shook his head, “The only thing we know for sure is that it can handle some pain, but it did
die. The neck appeared to be what finally did it in.”
“It also didn’t seem like the arrows did much damage; we need larger weapons than arrows.” Colt
added in.
“So, swords?” I asked.
He nodded. “We do have quite a bit of swords thanks to having to fight the vampires. We just need
a plan to fight these guys, our biggest issue with the bear last time was that we didn’t really know
what to expect and he snuck up on us when we couldn’t see him.”
“He was damn near invisible. By the time we saw him it was too late.” My dad added.
Josh’s girlfriend went down to be with him in the city at the hospital with the second round of guys
that went down to be with him. They said that his injuries were extreme, and he went through
hours of surgery before they finally were able to say that he should be okay. Though he will be greatly scarred from this. I assume physically and mentally.
I thought about what his injuries looked like when I went with them to take him down the mountain. They were gruesome. The gushing of blood, the shards of bone sticking out from his chest and shoulder area, the deep lacerations from the claws of the bear.
“I will be shielding our men.” I looked over at my father, “I think it might last longer since we have
my dad too.” I added.
Colt looked around and smiled, “I think we have a plan and I think it’s about as good as it’s going to get. Let’s get this plan in action.” He clapped his hands together and we all stood and left the
room. We all had our roles to play.
Mine, was mom.
I went to be with my kids for a short time. I got my snuggles and play time in with them and then I instructed Jessi to head down the mountain with my mother and two men to get our kids out of

As much as it pains me, and as much as my mother doesn’t want to leave me here to battle, we
cannot risk our children. The Goddess showed Eunice their importance. Eunice will be accompanying them as well. They’ve been instructed to stay in a hotel in the city for a couple of days and then to come back. Hopefully, we’ll be here to welcome them.
