FREYA POV
The bear kept wringing at the wolves in front of him like we’d planned. I kept biting trying to get him weaker. It took more than the normal animal hunt. I shifted and grabbed for the bag we tied to
the tree of the weapons for our group. Colt shifted but hung onto the bears‘ back.
I grabbed a sword and while the bear was distracted with the wolves in front of him, I tossed a
sword up to Colt and grabbed a sword for myself. The other wolf was still back here biting on his
legs keeping him from knowing that I wasn’t there.
In unison Colt and I sunk our swords into the bear. I sunk mine into his back and Colt sunk his into
his neck. At first, it didn’t seem like it phased him. It took us pulling the swords out and stabbing
him again before he finally dropped. Then we split two by two to help the other groups. I split with
Colt, of course. I don’t think he’s going to let me out of his sight until the rest of this is over.
Colt and I noticed that everyone seems to be holding their own really well. We just ran around and
checked with everyone. We made it through a few groups, jumping in to see if we could help and if
we couldn’t then we went to the next group. That was until we heard that lady yelling.
“Everyone stop!” She said.
Colt and I stopped and looked at her, shifted in her human form. Noone else seemed to have heard
her, or at least not interested in stopping.
Colt linked the pack, “Stop. Stop attacking.” It took a few seconds but they all stopped attacking.
She hollered again to her group of bears, “I said to stop!” And then after a few seconds everyone
was stopped.
She walked over to Colt and I.
“You’re quite powerful.” She said smiling at us.
“Are we finished? No more fighting?” I asked.
She nodded. “No more fighting. I think we’re finished here.”
Colt stopped her from walking away, “No, I think we can come to an agreement of some kind. Are you living on the mountain?” He said to her.
Wow straight to the point.
“We wander all summer to find food and safe places to hibernate.” She answered, with a
questioning tone.
“That is right around the corner, isn’t it?” He asked.

“Yes.” She answered, again with a questioning tone
I’m beginning to get a little bit of a questioning of his actions here as well.

“We have caves all around here on the mountain. If you stay and hibernate in those then we can
protect you through the winter, then come the summer we join forces on hunting and work together.” Colt announced.
She eyed him, going over the idea in her head. “Allow me to speak with my family and I will let you
know.” She walked over to Colt and shook his hand, then walked over to me and did the same.
Respectfully, I placed my hand in hers and gave her a strong shake.
“We will leave for now, outside of your territory and will come back with a few to discuss this
possible arrangement.” She reported back to Colt.
When we got back to the pack house, it was still morning. The battle only lasted a little while. I
turned to Colt once we got to his office.
“Why didn’t you tell me your plan?” I asked him.
“Frankly, I wasn’t too sure that there was going to be anything but the fighting.” He answered.
“Cop out answer.” I said. He’s lying to me.
“Okay look, I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want anyone to talk me out of it. I wanted this because
of the vampires. They’re strong and they’re different from us. They’re probably coming back and I
don’t want to be caught off guard again. Having the bears in the caves helps us. Having them
around during the summers helps us. If I can make it sound like it benefits them then maybe they’ll
go for it.” He told me, honestly.
“I wouldn’t have talked you out of that you know.” I said walking over to his desk closer to him. “I would have been in on your little plan.”
He looked up at me and smiled. “I guess I know you would have, I’m sorry.”
“I guess we need to figure out if we tell them about the vamps.” I said meaning to be more of a
question. I’m not sure if they’d consider this if they knew about them, but I also don’t know if our
pack can all keep that situation quiet if we get to talking to and working with the bears.
“T
I guess we’ll have to cross that bridge when we get there.” He answered. “In the meantime, we need to get back to hunting.”
I smelt the cooking from the kitchen, Colt smelt it too. The smell became unbearable. We needed
to eat.
When we sat down to eat he looked over at me, “You handled yourself well out there today.” He took another bite of his food. “I don’t understand why but I greatly enjoy watching you fight.”

I looked over at him and laughed, “Oh baby, if only you knew what it does to me to watch you fight, I think you might find reasons to go to war.”
He started laughing. “You’re probably right.” He stood up from the table, scooped me up in his
arms and carried me up the stairs.
Who would have thought that something like watching each other in a battle would make one hot
and bothered? He opened the door and tossed me on the bed like I was a little pillow. The strength
this man has is astounding.
I still can’t believe everything that the goddess has given me in this life. I don’t know what I did to
deserve any of it, but I can’t be more happy than I am when I am with my family. My husband is
amazing, and tomorrow my kids will be back with me too. Hopefully, we will have bears to help us deal with the vampires when they come back.
