The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 15

COLT POV

It was the middle of the day, everyone had obviously gotten through their haze at this point, since everyone was walking around like nothing happened. I started walking with Freya back to the pack house. I can’t believe she said yes.

I made a mental note to make sure her parents and brother knew she was with me in the pack house in case they found her hut with the smashed in door.

We got to the pack house and I pulled the door open for her. She walked in and looked around. I walked over to the staircase on the left and watched her take in the place. She was here before, but I’m sure the idea of her living here wasn’t on her mind then.

Her eyes found me, I just stood against the railing smiling. I liked seeing her here.

“This staircase is ours.” I held my arm out motioning for her to go up the stairs. I was holding her suitcase for her, damn thing was heavy she didn’t need to carry it around. I left it at the top of the stairs so I could show her around. My plan was to stay here with her for the next couple hours before we needed to head down to the dinner and beginning battle.

I opened the first door and waited for her to walk in.

“This is my office. I’m here a lot through the winter, not so much the rest of the seasons. Even during the winter I’m outside as much as possible.” She walked over to a painting I had behind my desk. I don’t have a whole lot of artwork in the pack house.

“That’s been here since my great great grandfather built this pack house.” I walked over to stand next to her. “We had a battle with a Native American tribe, they thought we were devils. They burnt down the pack house that was here before.”

My father told me a story about my great great grandfather being mated to the Chief’s wife which brought on a massive battle. She painted this for him before the Chief killed her, saying she was possessed because she loved a demon.

We still don’t see eye to eye with that tribe, but we have a peace agreement we stick to that my great great grandfather made up with the Chief. My great great grandfather took his own life the next day. My father used to tell me that he couldn’t stand being without his mate any longer, and as soon as he knew the pack was safe he joined her in death.

“I love art.” she told me, still eyeing the painting. That’s the first real thing about her she’s told me. “Whoever painted this was incredibly talented.” she turned to me smiling. “What’s next?”

I led her out of the room and closed the door. I opened the next two rooms and let her look at them, they’re just rooms.

“Are we sleeping in separate rooms?” she asked.

I chuckled, “Goddess no. These will be for our pups!” I smiled.

She quickly walked out of the one she was in and closed the door behind her. “I’m not quite ready for that talk.” she smiled shyly.

“This is our room.” oh I liked saying that. I opened the door to the final room at the end of the hall.

“It’s the largest room in the pack house. Two walk-in closets, a large bathroom with a shower and a bath, a kitchen area, a balcony, and of course…” I walked over and sat down, “The bed.”

She walked around, only 1 closet had anything in it. She went into the bathroom for a moment and came back out. Then she looked over to the bed I was sitting on.

It looked like the realization that we were going to be sleeping together now hit because she looked really nervous.

“I’ll bring your bag in, please unpack everything and get comfortable here.” I stood and walked over to her. “This is yours too. I want you to enjoy this room. My family has had a tradition in this room that I intend to keep.” I kissed her forehead.

“No going to bed angry. Only happiness in this room. Leave the outside world at the door. This is our space and only our space.” I remembered Jasmine and felt I should clear something up with her before I left her to unpack while I got word to her family.

“I sleep here, I have since my parents died. Freya… I turned her to look at me and not the bed, “I’ve never allowed another woman in this room. There’s a room next to the conference room that I used during haze seasons. Tainting this room has never been an option. It is for the Alpha and his mate only.”

I bent myself down to be at her eye level so she could tell I was serious. “The room she thought was mine was that one. It’s the room The Alpha and his mate go to when the Alpha steps down, the active Alpha is in this room.” I decided to leave out the fact that the room has never been used because all of our Alphas have become alphas only after the active Alpha has died.

She smiled, “So I’m the only woman of yours to be in here?” I nodded smiling back at her.

“I’m going to go get word to your family so they don’t worry when they see your hut.” I motioned to her bag, “Work on unpacking and I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

I kissed her forehead and walked out, closing the door behind me. I took a deep breath, then walked down and found one of my gammas. Truth be told I’m nervous about her living here too.

I’ve never lived with a woman before.

“Jake!” I hollered. He hurried over to me.

“Alpha?” he awaited my orders.

“Find Alpha Harland. Let him know that Freya is okay and staying with me at the pack house.” I paused when I realized Keegan, Freya’s brother had just walked into the pack house.

“Go Jake.” I ordered, he bowed and turned to leave.

“Alpha, where is my sister?” he immediately asked when he saw me.

“She’s unpacking upstairs. She will be staying here now.” I calmly advised trying to help him calm down. He must have seen her hut.

“What happened to her?” he ordered. He’s not an Alpha yet so that tone didn’t sit well with me, but given the situation I let it slide.

“I went to her hut as soon as I could when the haze hit and I heard her fighting with someone inside. So I smashed her door in and got him away from her.” I wanted to kill him, but Freya had the decency to remind me it wasn’t his fault.

“You let him go?” he asked with a shocked expression. Really not digging his tone.

“I was going to kill him, but Freya didn’t want me to. She had more decency about her than I did at that point. She reminded me that it wasn’t his fault, that he wasn’t in control because of the haze, an issue the betas were sent to rectify for us.” keeping my calm and not talking down to him was really difficult.

He’s going to be my brother in law soon, making waves wouldn’t be the best thing right now. I haven’t seen him around Freya at all since they got here, I really didn’t think they were close.

“You should have killed him.” he said and he walked out. He’s going to be a hard one to deal with I can already tell.
